Chapter 3

Author: F
I signed the divorce papers without hesitation.

Josiah blinked, clearly not expecting that. Afraid I might change my mind, he immediately sent the papers off to his lawyer to finalize things.

Vivian walked over, her voice soft but laced with cruelty.

"Jo loves me so much that he even turned your mom's body into fireworks for me. Don't you think your mom should be thanking me? Oh, right. She's blown to pieces now. Guess there's nothing left to thank me with."

I looked at her smug face, but my thoughts drifted elsewhere.

Back then, when Carina thought I couldn't have children, she had tried to force me into a divorce. She even spread rumors behind my back, claiming my mother was some kind of prostitute and that I was illegitimate.

She made sure everyone heard. Even Josiah had once questioned me about it.

Now it was obvious that he hadn't doubted it at all. He had believed every word Carina said.

Josiah wrapped an arm around Vivian, glaring at me with open disdain. "Sienna, take the hint and get out of here. You're an eyesore."

He let out a cold laugh. "Out of respect for your mom's 'contribution' to Vivian, I'll have security wait ten minutes before throwing you out."

I remained calm. "You can keep the remains. It's yours now. I don't need them."

I paused, then added, "Just make sure when Mr. Broadway Senior gets here that you both remember you were the ones who blew that body to pieces."

Josiah's expression darkened instantly. "Are you trying to scare me with my dad? Let me make one thing clear, Sienna. My family answers to me now. Blowing up your mom's body is nothing. Even if I scattered both you and your mom's ashes, my dad wouldn't be able to do anything to me!"

I let out a laugh. "Josiah, I only told you that 'Mom' was kidnapped. Why are you so sure the one who died was my mother and not yours?"

Josiah burst out laughing and looked at me like I was insane. "My mom? You think those broke kidnappers would dare touch her? Sienna, did that explosion scramble your brain?"

He jabbed a finger against my head.

"If it were my mom, they'd be asking for more than ten million. Your mom's the only one cheap enough for that price. One strand of my mom's hair is worth more than your mom's life."

He continued, "Besides, my mom has tens of millions sitting in her accounts. How could kidnappers possibly kill her? If they only wanted a measly ten million, she could've paid it with a flick of her finger! Try using that waterlogged brain of yours for once!"

I was indeed using my brain.

Last week, on Carina's birthday, I had picked out an expensive bracelet at an auction, planning to buy it as a gift for her.

But Josiah saw the payment slip and completely lost it, accusing me of secretly funneling money back to my "poor and useless" family.

No matter how I tried to explain, he wouldn't listen. Right in front of me, he froze all the secondary cards.

What he didn't realize was that his mother's card was one of them. He had cut off Carina's only way out of the kidnapping situation himself.

Vivian smirked, her voice dripping with satisfaction.

"Sienna, just stop pretending. Her remains are right here. Honestly, someone as low as your mom… This is probably the best ending she could hope for."

Then, unbelievably, her dog lifted its leg, about to pee right in my face.

I dodged instantly.

That was it. I had given them enough respect.

I lunged forward, grabbed Vivian by the hair, and slammed her face straight into the puddle of dog piss. Then I drove my foot into her, sending her crashing to the floor.

She screamed.

"Sienna! Are you out of your damn mind?"

Josiah's eyes turned bloodshot. He charged over, grabbed me, and slammed my head against the wall.

Still not satisfied, he wrapped his hand around my throat and slammed me onto the floor again and again.

"How dare you hurt Vivian? You've got a death wish!"

Vivian clutched her face, sobbing. "Jo… My face hurts… She made me drink dog piss…"

"Vivian, don't cry," Josiah said, his voice full of tenderness. "I'll make her apologize to you right now."

I shot him a cold glare, and his expression turned icy.

"You're not happy about it?" he snapped. "Then don't expect to walk out of here in one piece today."

He grabbed the bag of shredded flesh and, to everyone's horror, dumped it all into the dog's bowl.

The dog wagged its tail excitedly and immediately buried its head in, devouring the flesh.

The sickening crunch of bones being chewed echoed through the room.

"See that, Sienna? To me, you and your mom aren't even worth as much as a dog," Josiah said with a sneer.

Right then, hurried footsteps thundered in.

Josiah's father burst through the door with a group of bodyguards.

"Josiah! Your mother's been murdered by the kidnappers. Her body was dumped into the sea! Yet you're here fooling around with this disgraceful woman like nothing happened?"

The color drained from Josiah's face. His eyes slowly shifted toward the dog bowl in disbelief.

In the end, Josiah, who had been detained for desecrating a body, was released after only a few days. While Mom was out buying groceries, he kept pounding on our front door. When I opened it, his eyes lit up for a moment upon seeing me. But the hatred within them was stronger."Sienna, you bitch! You knew all along, didn't you? You deliberately watched me—"He couldn't finish. He gagged a few times, his face twisted in hatred."I told you," I said calmly."I said 'Mom' was kidnapped, and you immediately assumed that it was mine."That was why he could hang up the phone so calmly. Even when he got the body, he could blow her up like fireworks with glee. Then he tossed what was left of her into a dog bowl. To him, that was my mom. A lowly relative who should have been discarded long ago.Since it was my mom, he could humiliate her at will.It was my mom, so she deserved to die.If the kidnappers had really taken Mom that day, Josiah would probably now be cuddling Vivian, feed

The reporters' questions were ruthless.Josiah looked at the dog bowl. It still had traces of blood, but the dog itself was long gone.At that moment, Rupert ignored all the reporters and looked at Josiah with undisguised contempt, like his own son was trash. He walked to the fire hydrant in the corner, smashed the glass with a punch, and twisted the valve. Water shot straight at Josiah, hitting him with full force and knocking him to the ground. The water kept pouring, drenching him as if it were washing a filthy object."Throw him out. From today on, I have no such son."The bodyguards immediately grabbed the dazed Josiah and dragged him out. As he passed me, he glanced at me.I calmly met his eyes and looked away. Then, I walked over to Rupert."This is the last time I shall address you as Dad," I said.Rupert looked at me, his expression complicated.I handed him the signed divorce papers."This is the divorce agreement between Josiah and me. The lawyers have already

The journalists didn't back off. If anything, they surged forward instead."Did you get it? Get their faces!""Close-up! Make sure the dog bowl's in the frame!"Vivian knew that it was over for her.She spat at Josiah. "Look at you now. Don't you look just like a dog? No, you're worse than one. At least the dog wagged its tail while chewing your mom's bones. Your mom's been eaten. Your dad doesn't want you. And now I'm leaving too! Serves you right to never have children! Hahaha!"Rupert froze, then let his hand drop from his chest. He was probably thinking that if there really was a grandchild on the way, maybe the Broadway family could salvage a shred of its dignity.Vivian saw hope and started crying again. She struggled toward Josiah, pressing her stomach forward."Jo, I was wrong! Have mercy on me. I didn't mean to say those things to you. You were beating me up, and it hurt so much. I just said things without thinking. You can't have our baby coming into the world with thi

Vivian finally broke down. "I was forced to do so! I owed loan sharks, and they were going to cut off my hands. Jo, I had no choice! I just wanted to scare Sienna's mom, and I never meant to hurt Mrs. Broadway Senior!"She continued, "I did all this because I love you! As long as you divorce Sienna, I'll marry you! Then I'll have the money to pay off my gambling debts! "Jo, please, forgive me this once. I never meant for things to go this far. Help me pay off my debts, and we can live a good life together! Otherwise, they'll really come after me!"Josiah suddenly laughed. But there was nothing in it but despair."The bags I bought you… The car I gave you… The apartment downtown… Weren't those enough to cover your debts?Vivian's voice turned sharp and hysterical. "Those were gifts you gave when you felt like it! Things you could take back the second you got bored! I want money that's actually mine. Money that lets me stand on my own! I don't want to live like some pet that has

The bodyguards rushed forward, pinning Josiah to the ground as he struggled and hurled curses.Just then, Michael hurried in, whispering urgently in Rupert's ear.Rupert's expression darkened even further. He looked down at Josiah. Whatever bond of father and son remained was gone, replaced by nothing but disgust."The kidnappers have been caught. They confessed that they never intended to kill your mother."Josiah stopped struggling.Rupert let out a harsh laugh."They said they killed her because they called you 99 times and you didn't even answer once. As for the last call, your precious Vivian hung up for you."Every gaze in the room turned to Vivian's pale face.Rupert continued, "They also called Sienna. She was frantic and kept trying to reach you, but she couldn't get through. What were you doing, Josiah? Well, you were celebrating with Vivian."He continued, "Even after your mother died, it was Sienna who arranged a rescue team to recover her body from the sea. But wh

The color drained from Josiah's face in an instant.Just seconds earlier, he had been basking in his own triumph. Now, everything that had once been his mother had already been swallowed by the dog.I couldn't help but think back to when Carina was still alive. How she loved pointing a finger in my face, sneering as she called me trash."No way!" Josiah shook his head violently, refusing to believe it. "Dad's lying. He has to be! My mom had a spa appointment with Mrs. Miller and the others today! There's no way she was kidnapped!"He fumbled for his phone like a madman, his hands shaking as he dialed. "My mom is perfectly fine! The one who died has to be yours!"His eyes turned to me as his expression twisted with rage. "Sienna, this is your doing. You set this up!"A phone started ringing. Josiah froze when he heard it.His father, Rupert Broadway, shook with fury as he pointed straight at Vivian. "Why did your mother's phone end up in her hands? Josiah, you bastard!"Vivia
