HUNTER POV

"Are we there yet?"

"Oh, for Goddess' sake, Carter! Shut that naughty mouth of yours for a second, or I swear I'll chuck you out of the car!" I said angrily. "This is the eleventh time you asked that!"

To avoid my deadly stare, he hurriedly shut his mouth and looked out the window. I rolled my eyes and returned to the pack reports for a short check.

"Alpha, we're getting close to the South pack's border," said one of the warriors in the driver's seat.

I nodded and carefully placed the papers on the side before scanning the area as we approached. The region was dotted with lovely trees and vistas. The houses are built in rows, each with a distinct lovely hue. Each roofing has its own distinct color scheme.

My gaze was drawn to the enormous structure in the center, which I imagined was their capital's pack house. In front of it, there were a few warriors who appeared to be practicing as their leaders directed them.

'Wow, they may be a tiny pack, but I guess they can keep up with us.' My wolf yipped excitedly.

"Now I see why this pack is named the South pack; the females here were very cautious to hide their 'southern' part. Pffts." Carter jokingly stated. He was about to laugh, but I let out a low growl that stopped him.

I stroked the base of my nose and gave Carter a death gaze, making his face pale. "What's that, Carter? I didn't quite hear you."

He didn't reply but swallowed a lump on his throat and gaze out the window.

"Good," I said with my serious tone and crossed arms, as the car came to a halt.

The warriors jumped out of the car and collected our belongings from the trunk, while Levi and Cromwel followed me outside with a serious expression on their faces, but their lips twitched as if they were about to burst out laughing.

As Alpha and his Luna approached us, I saw how amazing they both were with their dark brown hair and sky blue eyes. His aura signals that you should not play with him. He has a robust figure and a firm appearance, but his Luna has a beauty that can captivate any man's heart, with confidence and bravery on her face.

"Alpha Silver."I nodded, looking into his eyes.

"Alpha Hunter." He nodded back, "I'm glad we've finally reached an accord." I put on a tiny and proud grin. Of course, I worked hard to come to this agreement.

"This is my mate, Luna Megan." He said, motioning with his hand beside him.

I smiled and extended my hand to shake hers, but she surprised me by forming a hug around me. I was surprised for a moment as she continued to touch my back and pat the back of my head. I saw my beta out of the corner of my eye, and he twitched his lips as if ready to laugh, but he held it in.

"I'm sorry, we're a family of huggers, or at least I am. I didn't want to scare you." I caressed Luna's back slowly as she began to detach her body from mine with a grin on her lips.

I merely shook my head and smiled at her, saying, "No harm done, it's all right."

Alpha Silver smiled wryly and nodded his head as his mate pulled back and moved beside him.

"This is my son, Simon." he said, motioning with his hand to the boy with light brown hair and bright eyes. I carefully examined the future alpha, who had a humorous sparkle in his eyes that indicated he was more relaxed back than his father, but he also had a serious expression on his face that told me he'd be a terrific alpha eventually.

He seemed perplexed as he began to glance sideways, then sighed and said, "My daughter, Crest, was meant to be here; I am sure she is just behind us, but she must have run away. No worries, you'll meet her soon."

So her name is Crest? Based on Carter's judgment back when we were in the car, she loved shopping and hosting these kinds of meetings.

But, before I pass judgment, I'd best meet her in person; I'm the type of person who doesn't believe in rumors unless I can see them for myself.

I grimaced slightly as my wolf purred contentedly inside of me. What exactly is his deal? Is he on drugs or something? I never imagined my wolf was capable of purring because I had never seen or felt him emote in this manner.

"Well, how about we proceed to our meeting in my office. My beta will show you around here later. Settle yourself first in the pack house's guest rooms and take some rest. Your journey to be here wasn't that easy. My luna has prepared something for you in the dining hall. Make yourself at home and feel free to ask my team if you need any help."

"That's fine with us." I nodded at him.

"All right, then, follow me." He led the way as we all went after him. Some eyes were on us along the way, but they lowered their heads to show us respect. My pack warriors, as well as my beta, delta, and gamma, followed us with bags in their hands.

'I hope they have decent food here, I'm hungry!' Levi mumbled in our mind link, while Carter and Cromwel hummed in agreement and discreetly nodded their heads.

'I can't wait to meet some hot chicks,' Carter continued, a cheeky grin on his face. 'Especially, their alpha daughter.' His last statement made me snarl at them.

'Naughty little pup, aren't we Carter?' My response made them lower their heads, but I know the other two are holding in their laughter.

We can see more children playing and running as we get closer to the packed house. Some came up to us in their puppy forms and smelled our feet, while others bumped into us and ran away.

"My husband and son just checked some minor issues at the pack border, but they'll be back very soon," Luna Megan said, drawing closer to us. "Why don't you guys go ahead to the kitchen? My daughter has prepared some food for you all, and I'll take your warriors to settle your things to your respective bedrooms."

"Is everything okay?" I inquired, and it seemed as though we were all having the same problem with our pack borders.

She sighed before responding, "Yes. Same old thing, rogues targeting our various borderlines, but everything is under control now." She grinned at the end of her response. I guess I'll have to discuss this with her husband later in the meeting. "Anyway, please proceed to the kitchen, I'm sure you're all famished." She continued.

"You got it right, Luna." Levi said to her. She only smiled and motioned her hands towards a door.

"Right there, gentlemen."

While Levi, Cromwel, and Carter dashed towards the kitchen, I thanked her. She nodded and walked down the corridor, followed by my troops.

When I walked into the kitchen, I was greeted with a delightful aroma of delicacies. Fried chicken, steak, carbonara, and freshly baked pastries are all available. My stomach groaned in appreciation as I continued to go closer to the kitchen island, taking in the delectable aromas.

I was perplexed as to why my beta and gamma were still standing around the entrance, mouths open in the shape of an 'o.' I walked closer to them and noted that they were keeping an eye on the alpha daughter's back.

While fetching something from the oven, she was quietly humming. When my heart began to pound heavily, I felt something strange. I can't get my eyes off her back.

Her long, light brown wavy hair bounces as she sways gently. Because I am 6'1, her height is only a few inches less than mine.

Her exquisite physique was disguised behind a baggy white sweater and a pair of snug slim black pants.

"Oh, you're all here! I hope you enjoy cakes, since I baked too many," she remarked, her face lit up with a bright grin that made my heart skip a beat. As she got closer to the island, she kept smiling at us, but I noticed she tensed a bit when she looked at me.

I immediately made eye contact with her brilliant sky blue eyes. As I felt something run in my spine, I swallowed a knot in my throat. My palms felt moist as my heart continued to pound loudly. Then something clicked as we both looked into each other's eyes, something strange that I couldn't explain, a pleasurable feeling. My wolf is screaming in delight, pacing back and forth and urging me to get closer to her, but I couldn't move an inch because I was staring at someone that I hadn't wished for.

A mate.

CREST POVAll that time, I hadn’t noticed that the moon was already setting himself up in the sky. The silver orb hung high, casting long, skeletal shadows across the dense forest floor. I tried to calm the frantic beating of my heart, taking deep, steadying breaths of the cool night air. For the last time, I tried to call out to my wolf, but to no avail. She was still out there, locked away in the deepest, most recessed part of my mind, hiding herself from me.Perhaps she was angry at me. Angry for turning her fur into the color she hated most, for forcing her to hide her true power, and for compelling her to do something that the Goddess of the Moon herself might get angry at.I desperately wanted to connect with her again. I wanted to ask for her forgiveness, to feel the comforting warmth of her presence, and to make everything right between us. But maybe I would have to wait until after these trials. I couldn't risk my position yet. I couldn't risk having a mate now, either. I kne

HUNTER’S POVThe cold mist of the waterfall filled my lungs, relaxing my breathing and soothing my mind. For a brief moment, the heavy burden of my upcoming responsibilities faded into the roar of the rushing water. Then, a faint friction of whispers snapped me back to reality.I furrowed my brows, my ears twitching as they dialed in on the source of the sound. Slowly, I pulled myself away from the edge of the water, careful not to let the river stones click beneath my feet. I peered deep into the heart of the forest. The canopy of trees are thick and oppressive here, casting the woods into a premature twilight, hiding the greatest wonder called the Lily river waterfall. Still, my wolf sight picked up two distinct figures moving through the shadows. The dense crowd of ancient trees hid this waterfall from normal sight. It was a sanctuary known to only a select few. As I stealthily crept toward the hushed voices, my wolf suddenly stirred, letting out a low, vibrating growl in my chest

CREST POV"Slow down now, I think we already passed them," Estella whispered. We made it into the center of the forest, just outside the border walls of the Lily River Campsite."I'm glad you made it just in time. I thought the patrols were going to catch me."She smiled, knowing she had saved me many times in just a single week.A short while ago, I was hiding in the bushes waiting for the border patrols to shift duties. When I tried to run after finding an opening, one patrol member came back to the border and almost saw me running toward the gate. Thankfully, Estella arrived just in time. She used her skills to charm those guards again and let me cross the walls."Where are we going now?" she asked."Let's roam the area and hope that none of the traps catch us.""We're literally outside the assessment field, so I guess there are no traps here.""We don't know that yet. What if they put traps here too, just in case some aspirants head toward this area?"She shook her head in disagre

CREST’S POV"How can we get out of here? The place is swarming with guards after what you did," Estella whispered into my face. We were huddled together, planning to scout the area for the assessment scheduled for tomorrow. After the havoc I’d caused, my uncle, the commander, had ordered the guards to stay alert and monitor my situation while I rested in one of the camp barracks."You’ve known this place longer than I have. In order for me to pass the assessment, we need to do this," I whispered back."Yes, but the guards... can't you see them?""We need a plan.""Now you want a plan? Did you think of one before you swallowed all that perfume?"I rolled my eyes at her. "Look, I know I’ve made some hasty decisions lately, but it was for a good reason."She sighed."You know I trust you, right?" I gave her a wide smile. "This time, I’m relying on you, since you know the layout better than I do.""Fine. But to burst your bubble, I haven't actually seen the center of the area where the as

HUNTER POV"D*mn it!" I grunted. I had tried to connect with my wolf dozens of times to no avail. Ever since I’d caught that strange scent on our way to the barracks, my wolf had been pacing restlessly in the back of my mind.Even he didn't seem to understand what was happening. Something about that scent irritated him. He wanted out, and I did my best to maintain control. He had already begun to lash out; he’d rampaged through the trees and smashed some of the stone walls on the far side of the Lily River Camp.I hoped no member of the Council saw this. If they did, my family’s reputation would be ruined.I ran toward the heart of the forest until a beautiful waterfall cascading over a massive wall of rock caught my attention. The mist it created refreshed my mind. I inhaled the damp air, and it finally cooled down my hot-headed wolf. Little by little, I felt the connection returning, though it wasn't full yet. I still couldn't speak to him or get a response. His fur was a mess, and

Crest POV"Urgh..."I groaned as the sound of rustling nearby dragged me back to consciousness. My head throbbed, and when I tried to open my eyes, everything was a dizzying blur. I couldn't remember much—just a hazy memory of my entire body feeling like it was on fire."Oh, thank the Goddess, you're awake!" A woman’s voice rushed toward me. "I’ve been crying for hours, blaming myself for letting you take that perfume.""Estella? What... what happened?""You collapsed just a few feet from the entrance.""Right. We made it?""We did. And thank Goddess, your uncle was there to help."I tried to smile and push myself up, but a sharp ache shot through my limbs. Estella immediately reached out to steady me, and as she did, I noticed dark bruises blooming across her arms."What happened to you?" I asked, frowning. "Why are you covered in bruises?"She hesitated, biting her lip. "Well... you kind of w
