The dark screen of the phone stared back at me, the constant silence inside the room was a constant reminder of my loneliness....I could never be a part of this pack.

I bit the inside of my cheeks as I tried calling Eleanor once again.

"Hi...I am so sorry I could not answer earlier," this time Eleanor's voice came from the other side, instantly bringing a smile to my face.

"What's happening in the palace?"

"Well, let's see. Everything is almost a mess. We still have to get married and as the date is approaching my stress is increasing too and don't get me started about Mr. King of the werewolves, he is always busy."

I did not have the heart to stop El and tell her anything about my problems when she had all of those troubles.

"You will be fine, just remember how much you both love each other," I smiled, "this time will pass, he needs to take care of his people as well."

I heard some shuffling from Eleanor's side, I assumed she must be doing something else too.

I cleared my throat, "How is Luca?"

The same uneasy feeling returned as I thought about him. The man who was kind to me when everyone else saw me as an easy target in the palace, he tried to defend me.

"You don't know?" the shuffling sound stopped immediately.

"Uhh..." I did not know what to say.

"Orion talked to some witches and managed to get some medicines for Luca, he might wake up soon."

I stood up from the bed, "Are you serious? This is great."

Eleanor ignored my response.

"Ruhee," El said in a warning tone, "is everything fine there?"

I licked my lips nervously and put on a fake smile, "Yes, he might have forgotten about telling me about this."

"Ruhee, are you telling me the truth?"

"Yes," I said confidently, "he is just busy and I did not get enough time to talk to him, I am just here in the room."

There was a pause, "Remember I am here for you. You need to get out and explore the place, maybe this is the new life you always wanted and I know you are a hopeless romantic about soulmate stuff so maybe this will work in your favor. I tried to get away from Damien and look at us now."

I bit my lip, it was not the right moment to tell her anything. How could I tell her my soulmate had not said a word to me ever since I stepped inside the pack? My hopeless romantic part died a long time ago. I knew I was an uninvited guest for him who would leave soon and he would get married to Chelsea.

"Are you there?"

I was brought back by Eleanor's voice.

"Yes, sorry there might be some network issues here in this room."

"I said I have to go and don't just stay inside the room, meet new people. Get to know them, you are an amazing person and it is nearly impossible not to like you."

"I will talk to you soon," just with this the call ended.

I put the phone inside a plastic bag and hid it inside the soil of a large flower pot that was sitting ideally in the corner of the room.

Maybe El was right, I had to get out of the room. The silence and the loneliness were driving me insane.

I opened the door but paused after I took one step outside. It would be wrong to just leave and where was I supposed to go?

Bernadette was busy with her responsibilities and I didn't want to bother her. I could not think of anyone else. I kept walking and soon I was outside the mansion.

My feet paused, what was I doing?

The sense of right and wrong went away as soon as the cold wind touched my skin making me realize I was trapped inside for too long to notice what it felt like to be outside.

Without any worries, I kept walking and surprisingly the path was clear. Maybe there weren't too many people around during this time of the day or they all had some important things to do other than sitting in a room.

I walked across the garden that had a fountain in the center with colorful plants and trees of different shapes on the corners, except for these it was pretty empty with just green grass covering every inch of the ground.

Instead of walking toward the huge black gate, I walked away from it.

The trees kept increasing as I continued making my way farther away from the mansion. Soon, I found myself standing in front of a forest. It was not uncommon for werewolves to live near a forest and maybe Alpha Orion used the forest whenever he needed time away from everyone.

I gulped and took a step inside the forest without thinking much, there was nothing worst that could happen. There was no one who would worry about me or be bothered by my absence.  The forest had the fresh scent of freshly bloomed red flowers that were present in large numbers. The trees were tall and covered the sky with their leaves.

For someone else, this might be scary but there was something calm about the forest, my feet kept taking me in an unknown direction. I made sure to remember the path by making crosses with a stick on the ground.

There was just the sound of insects and birds around me, even though I was alone once again I was not feeling lonely.

I lost the track of time and just when I was ready to turn around the sound of flowing water fell into my ears. I could not resist my curiosity and decided to check the source of the sound.

The decision of leaving the room and coming here turned out to work in my favor, in front of my eyes was water flowing from the clouds. I could not see the origin of the waterfall because of the fog that surrounded it but the sound of water provided the serenity that I was searching for. The stream of water had divided the place into two parts, one where I was standing and the other one appearing to be a forest just like the one I crossed to be here.

I wanted to leave but my feet would not move.

Inhaling a deep breath to gather as much fresh air as I could I closed my eyes to feel the cold air on my face with the sound of nature enveloping me in a hug. I was too busy with my surrounding that I failed to notice everything else around me until a voice entered my ears.

"Well, this is new."

  • Heart of blood and roses    Cursed person

"How is he?" Rose was sitting on the stairs outside Kai's house, crushing something in a white mortar and pestle. She paused, hearing my sound. "Luna," she acknowledged my presence with a warm smile.I sat down next to her, "Can I see him?"She shook her head, "It would be best if no one meets him until he wakes up. I don't want the influence of dark magic on anyone else."I let out a breath, "When will he wake up?"It had been one day without Orion and I was feeling overwhelmed with everything. Bidding farewell to Celia and others was not easy, I had to make sure no one doubted Orion's absence. "The blue mark is fading," Rose replied as she added a palm-shaped leaf into the red paste and started mixing it. "I am sorry you had to stay here taking care of a person you have never met before."She smiled but the smile was dull compared to her other smiles, "I am helping you. My mother would have wanted this.""Where is your mother?"She hesitated and increased the motion of her hand.

  • Heart of blood and roses   The only person who could help us

Kai had returned but was unconscious.Flora was missing. The red moon had passed but the shadow moon was another mystery for me to solve. Orion was trying to find the person behind Kai's condition. Bernadette had given him details and footage of the areas around the pack, he was locked in his office trying to connect the missing strands. I let out a long breath and thought about seeing Celia."Luna," I was stopped by a voice, followed by a sound of someone colliding with something. I turned around to find Rose rubbing her knee with a scowl on her face. "Are you okay?" She immediately corrected her posture, "Yes, Luna.""I am just going to meet Aunt Celia," I informed her and waited to know if she was going in the same direction as well. She turned her head right and left to check if we were alone. "I-I need to talk to you," her words were careful. An uneasy feeling settled in my stomach. "The gamma." She stopped. I nodded giving her a sign to continue. She inhaled a deep b

  • Heart of blood and roses   Well-wisher

The ceremony was completed 3 nights ago, we accepted each other in front of the whole pack and the pack accepted us in return with happiness For the first time, I had everything I wanted and nothing to wish for. I managed to sneak away from everyone to meet Flora, she had become a part of my life and yet I knew nothing about her. My foot steps were not slow, I was not taking my time to look at the trees and flowers on the way. I was running towards the river to greet my old friend and tell her the good news about surviving the blood moon.I finally slowed down after reaching the river and scanned the area. My smile dropped instantly, for the first time, there was no sign of Flora anywhere. "Flora?" I called out her name, which was foolish but for some reason, I thought she was nearby and could hear my voice.I waited before walking further, "Flora?"No response, just the sound of running water and birds. I decided to take a brave step and go to the other side of the river. I suc

  • Heart of blood and roses   Are you ready?

"We can't thank you and your coven enough, Celia." Orion repeated. Celia smiled in response, "You are a part of our family now."Between the sounds of knife, fork and spoon, a sharp sigh got mixed in the dining room. I looked at Ruth, who kept cutting a piece of meat on her plate, the pieces kept increasing, but nothing was being eaten by her. She did not like me, it was not a surprise, it was understandable. Maybe she was also not sure about a stranger entering their lives. But she was my sister. They had proved their loyalty to us and now it was my turn to take a step in their direction. "But I must say, Alpha, I am not entirely happy." Silence. Bernadette and Orion shared a look, the lack of expression on their faces made it hard to read what was going on inside their head. But I knew they were thinking, were there any mistakes from their end in the arrangements for our guests?"Did we do something to upset you?" Orion was being careful with his words. Celia was too exhaust

  • Heart of blood and roses   Was the nightmare really over?

"This is not right." My gaze kept moving between my hand, where I was feeling the faint warmth and the sky. The moon appeared normal...just like any other night. I had been feeling something in the pit of my stomach, at first I was sure it was fear....but it was not fear. It was doubt. The preparations had been made, Celia and Ruth were waiting for me where they had been staying. "Should I trust them?" The question had been bugging me ever since I returned from the forest. How could I trust anyone? I had learned from a very young age not to lower my walls for anyone...but these people were my family...my blood.Shaking my head, I put on a smile I had perfected over the years. The dagger sitting inside my jacket provided some comfort, if they did anything, I would be ready to protect my pack. ..."My dear, we have been waiting for you," Celia grabbed my hand and dragged me to stand inside a circle. Ruth did not bother to glance in my direction and continued feeding something to

  • Heart of blood and roses   The river

The blood moon was almost above our heads. I could feel something in my body, the fear of losing people, the disappointment of letting others down, the confusion of my new identity."And that is why my dear you should always be careful with pronouncing your spells," Celia continued as she added some dry herbs into the cauldron. I smiled with a nod. She had been trying to teach me as much as she could, which meant she did not stop talking about the spells, coven, and moon. But the truth was I could not focus entirely on her words, so much was going on inside my head...I did not know if I should trust her. The boiling sound kept coming along with laughter of Celia as she told the story about 'my mother'."Dear, did you notice any signs of magic yet?" I shook my head, "Nothing so far."I knew Orion did not mention the change in eye color to anyone and I had promised Flora not to utter a word about what happened. She smiled, "It's completely fine, you might be a later bloomer."I just
