Heir To The Alpha Throne

Heartbreak

“I have something to tell you” Alpha Seven managed to say. Alpha Seven is the heir to the throne of the Alpha, Alpha Cloud of the undefeated wolves. Right there, at night time, he laid gently in the garden with his hands behind his head and his lover, Hazel, lying peacefully on his chest as they watched the stars together.

Hazel smiled as she already knew what he wanted to say. Each time he told her he had something to say, he was always complimenting her, telling her how beautiful she was, how happy he would be to see their young pubs and so many other things, he would say it with excitement but this time, his voice was shaky. What was wrong?

“Go on” She smiled, with her head still on his chest as she drew imaginary lines on his chest, discarding the tension and worry that was evident in his voice. All she wanted to hear were his sweet words.

“I would be meeting my mate in a couple of hours and we would be getting married on your birthday eve” He managed to say.

“Of course” She had wanted to say when it hit her. Wait, what did he mean? Wasn’t she his mate?

Her hands froze. Her lips quivered, her heart stopped working, and gently like she was controlled like a robot, she gently stood up from his chest. Was he joking?

“Wh..what do you mean? We are supposed to get mated on my eighteenth birthday so what are you saying?” She questioned, not sure of what she had heard or maybe she misinterpreted him.

“I am sorry, I have been meaning to tell you this for a long but I had no idea of how to tell you” He sat up with worry boldly written all over his face.

“Tell me what?” Her voice quivered as she wondered if she was dreaming or if it was happening to her. No! Seven would never do that to her, it had to be a dream.

“Father said you are not my mate” He bluntly answered.

“What do you mean I am not your mate? We both experienced the mate pull, you told me you did or did you not? Did you not feel the mate pull? Did you lie to me just to sleep with me?” She questioned, tears flowing gently from her eyes.

“I would never do that to you” He stood up and just like him, she stood up.

“Then explain what happened to me!”

“Forget whatever happened and move on with your life. You are still young. You will be eighteen in a couple of weeks and I hope you find the perfect mate and partner who will be there for you.”

“What on earth are you saying? Is this all it meant to you? Is this all ‘we’ meant to you? Why are you doing this to me? I allowed you into the woman in me. I allowed you to cross the gates no one should because I love you and I am certain you are my mate. Because my father, the Alpha of the Red Wolf Park is not on good terms with your father, he asked me to refuse you but no, I didn’t. I chose you over my family and when my father realized I already allowed you into my innermost chamber, he disowned me but I did not care because I love you and now, you are doing this to me? Why did you bring me this far to do this? Was this your father’s gimmick to defeat my father?”

“Leave my father out of this” He turned quickly and raised his finger at her. “I love you and I have always loved you. I would do anything for you but not at the expense of my family. I cannot disobey my father because of you. I am sorry this is how we have to part ways but I wish you the best and I hope you have the best life.

I wish you would get a very special present on your eighteenth birthday. You should leave here before you get caught” He spared a final glance at her before leaving.

The shock was an understatement for how Hazel felt that very minute. Her life had crumbled right before her eyes. Now, she had no one to go to, nor did she have anyone to call family anymore.

Seven walked away, trying to hold back the tears that gathered in his eyes. He had just left his life and love behind. A part of him wanted to run back to her to apologize because he did not mean a bit of what he said but he had to be a man. Part of the sacrifice he had to make.

Shrugging off the feeling that refused to leave, he walked gently back to the park house.

Wiping off her tears, Hazel stood up and was determined to return to her father’s house. She would rather die by his sword than be captured by their enemies. She was filled with anger and bitterness but she could not tell who it was directed to if it was her father or Seven’s father as she could not hate or abhor Seven no matter how hard she tried. She tried but it seemed not to work.

Her inner wolf was weak, the news had broken her so she didn’t even want to come out.

Struggling with the little part of her that she could gather, Hazel got up and walked away far from the garden, straight to her pack.

“Where have you been? Everyone has been searching for you, it is almost time for the ceremony. Your father was worried” Luna, Luna Christine questioned as she watched her son, coming from a distance.

“Where is Hazel?”

“Mother” He hugged her tightly. “I rejected her.”

“Rejected who?” She gently pushed him away.

“Hazel” He sighed, tears flowing from his eyes.

“What! Are you out of your mind? Won’t the ceremony held today, are you out of your mind? Won’t you get to officially meet her today? What has come over you?” She spewed angrily.

“He will meet his mate .” Seven and his mother turned back in surprise. Christine was rather shocked. “The ceremony will be held. He would get mated but not to Hazel. He is getting mated to the daughter of Alpha Steve, Stephanie.”

“What do you mean?” She looked at her husband, then at her son, then at her husband again. “Hazel is his mate”

“No, she is not. She is not his mate.”

Seven watched on as his parents debated. His heart was heavy. He could not imagine what was going to happen. Was it worth it? Just for his father’s love and approval for the throne, he had to lose his lover and from the look of things, was he going to lose his mother again?

“The Ancient One confirmed she was his mate.” She paused and turned to her son “Did you not feel the mate pull?”

Seven was quiet. Of course, he did but he did not want to annoy his father so he stayed mute, disappointing his mother even more.

“The Ancient One only wanted peace between our park and the Red Wolf Park and that was why he lied. Indigenous told me the truth. Stephanie is my son’s mate.”

“Indigenous? And you believed him? Do you not know Indigenous is a fake mediator between us and the moon goddess? He says whatever it is you want to hear. He lies a lot. The Ancient One had always been the one for our family and even forefathers since he was born. Why are you trying to avert the goddess's wish?

Why are you trying to hurt this kingdom?”

“Seven getting married to Hazel would do more harm. Can’t you see? Hazel’s father is our enemy. It could have been a plan between him and the Ancient One? He definitely wants to take this throne from me and he is using his daughter as bait” Alpha Cloud rigidly replied.

“You know that is not true. How can you think of the Ancient One in that manner? He has always been faithful to our forefathers. Hazel rejected her family just to be with Seven and now, you….”

“Enough!” Alpha Cloud yelled in anger. In fear, Seven and his mother bowed. “I would be expecting you both in a couple of minutes, the guests are around” He frowned and walked back in. Seven could not look at his mother as he felt ashamed to do so.

“That poor girl forsook her family because of you because she loved you and now, you are doing this to her? If you go on like your father, if you do as he asked, as he wants, if you accept Stephanie as your mate instead of Hazel, just like Hazel denied her family for you, I am going to deny you. You will cease to be my son”

She spoke calmly as she folded her hands behind her. Seven’s eyes widened in shock.

“I wish I never had you” She added, almost inaudibly as she walked back in, leaving Seven all alone. What was he going to do?
