ARIA

I rolled onto my back, still tasting him. The salt and heat of him was still on my tongue, thick and sexy.

My thighs were slick, and my body burned like it hadn’t been touched in years, which it hadn't until Caspian.

The room was silent, the air in my throat heavy with the memory of Caspian’s mouth on mine. His teeth on my lip.

The exact way his fingers had tugged my hair. The low, dangerous sound he made when I locked my legs around him.

I exhaled hard and reached down, slipping my fingers between my thighs without hesitation. My body arched the moment I touched myself.

I felt wet and ready just like earlier with him.

I closed my eyes, letting the image of his mouth on my neck take over. The way he’d dragged me back into him and slammed the door shut.

The way his palm cupped my ass like he owned it, his fingers working under my panties, brushing the wet heat of me and laughing softly when I moaned.

I could still hear him telling me I was wet for him. I could still feel it.

ARIA“Then be prepared Rowan. One of us will fight to the death, and it sure as hell won't be me.”I turned to go but his next words stopped me in my tracks. “Don't you want to know, Aria? Don't you want to know how I didn't die in that water?” “Fine, tell me.” He chuckled. “I thought of you. I thought of that look of barely hidden horror, and you didn't disappoint.” I left his office then, refusing to acknowledge whatever words he threw at my back.My hands were shaking at my sides. My palms were sweaty from being pressed into his desk, and my throat was burning from words I didn't say. I was afraid that one more second locked in that office with Rowan and I would claw his eyes out. The bastard had smiled when he said it. As though I was supposed to be amused by his threat, or promise or whatever the hell that was. If I can’t have you, no one will.I shoved through the hall, ignoring the stares that followed me. Everyone was still whispering about the miracle release, the “a

ARIACaspian barely slept. I knew because every time my eyes opened, I found him awake. He was lying there with his hand on my waist like if he let go, I might vanish. By morning his eyes were red and he looked like he’d aged years overnight.I didn't think I looked much better either.Still, I got out of bed, showered and dressed, ready for work. “You need to be careful,” he said quietly as I buttoned my blouse. His voice was raw, gravel dragging against stone. “Rowan isn’t done. He’ll be back at that office within the week, no matter what happened by the docks.”My fingers were shaking as I slid the last button in and stepped away from the mirror. “Within the week?” I had hoped he wouldn’t thr entire month at least. “Sooner if he feels better.” He rubbed his temple, then leaned against the dresser like he didn’t trust his legs. “He’s not the kind of person who hides. He’ll want you rattled, and he'll want you scared, so please keep your wits about you. Don’t let him bait you.”

CASPIAN“I would’ve killed him myself!”Aria jumped off the couch, pacing in front of me, her chest rising and falling, her eyes bright with something I couldn’t name. Was it rage? fear? fire?Or was it all those things tangled into one mess that was choking her?It put me on edge.It set my teeth with fear for her, because Aria would take chances with herself and her life if she knew she could take out Rowan. That was one risk I was unwilling to take.I needed to get rid of him before she got it into her head that she could do it herself.I dragged a hand down my face, knuckles raw from Rowan’s blood. My pulse was suddenly harder than ever, as though my body was trying to make up for forgetting that the fight wasn’t over.“Don’t say stuff like that, Aria.” I gritted out.“Why not? I could do it. And he would deserve it after all the lives he’s ruined. And you? Do you think I wouldn’t pull the trigger if it meant keeping you alive? We both know he’s coming for you.”I knew damned wel

CASPIANI laughed before I could stop it. It was half in relief, and half because I was exhausted, and laughing felt better than losing my damned mind.It felt better than being stuck in the cold at the dock, running from another dead end.Damn it.I dropped my head, pressing my forehead against Aria’s, breathing her in. She smelled like her body wash, and it was such a calming thing just to smell her skin. For th first time since rhe docks, my chest didn’t feel like it was being squeezed shut.“Aria…”Her hands framed my face.“Don’t Aria me, Caspian. When all is said and done, you can’t walk in here with blood on your shirt and expect me to pretend that it’s totally normal.”“It’s not my blood.”“I promise that doesn’t make it better.”I closed my eyes slowly, seeing the evening as it had gone. Rowan’s grin as he vanished under the waves would haunt me for the rest of my life at this rate.Aria pulled my shirt, tugging on it until I opened my eyes.I shook my head. I couldn’t unl

CASPIANThe water swallowed him whole. We stood there, guns raised, scanning the black surface as if Rowan might resurface, coughing and swearing. But the only sound was the slap of waves against the dock. The current pulled at the pilings, dark and fast, dragging him wherever it pleased.“Eyes up,” Duke said finally, “We’re still exposed.”Markus muttered something under his breath, still searching the shadows as though he expected Rowan to just pop up any second.“Can you see him?” I asked, even though I already knew the answer.Duke shook his head. “He’s gone, Caspian. That current’ll carry him a mile before he even surfaces. If he surfaces.”“He will.” I was convinced of that. “Bastard’s like cockroaches. He’ll crawl out somewhere.”Rowan wasn't jumping to his death. I knew very well he wouldn't have risked it, if he wasn't certain he could survive it. Markus looked at me over his shoulder. “We’ve got to pull back. We don’t have numbers to sweep this whole dockyard, and we’re r

CASPIANThe man was being a menace and he didn't even have to be.Xander closed his eyes, and sighed. “How much longer is this going to be? Shoot me already.” The man behind him stabbed his head forward with the gun. “Now you shut up!” I saw Xander’s fingers ball into fists and one looked down at him, and I knew what he had planned. “Sniper!” I screamed, ducking behind for cover with my eyes still on Xander. Xander jumped off the ground, pulled his shoulders forward, then back into the man’s crotch. The man doubled over, both his hands cupping his balls. A moment later, he went toppling to the ground, groaning and grunting like a pig. Xander picked his gun off the floor, cocked it and shot him in the knee. “Look who's being a cry baby now. Not so strong now, are you?” Turning away from him, I made my way to my car, dragging Rowan behind me, while Xander released another bullet into the man who was full on slobbering now. “Xander? Caspian? We’ve got to go!” Rowan was still l
