Livia’s POV

The moment Hayden left me without any concern about what I just told him, I knew within me that I needed to be decisive in my decisions.

No matter who might be behind the messages, I will stand strong to protect myself and my daughter.

I stood there for a while, staring at the door and hoping that Hayden could just come back. If he could just change his mind that the document in his hands is not as important as what I told him.

I just need him to hold me closer and assure me that he will always stand to protect me.

“Mummy mummy,” Emerald's tiny voice took me from my deep thoughts as she ran towards me with her school uniform.

I immediately lightened my mood as I opened my hands widely for her to run into.

The maid just brought her back from school.

"My little princess,” I said with a smile on my face as I picked her from the ground and kissed her.

How was school today?” I asked, smiling at her.

“School was fine,” she muttered as she narrated what she was thinking today in school.

I was all smiles as I listened to her carefully.

I dropped her on the ground as I ordered the maid to freshen her up and her food to eat.

The next morning, I opened my eyes to the brightness of the day.

The thought of the previous day came rushing in as I remembered the threat and Hayden's reaction towards it.

I can't do this anymore. “I’m done,” I whispered to myself, gripping the edge of Emerald’s bed so tightly my fingers hurt.

“I’m done letting them control everything,” I muttered as I watched Emerald sleep peacefully, her tiny chest rising and falling, completely unaware of the storm swallowing her mother whole.

For a moment, I allowed myself to just watch her, memorize her because lately, nothing felt guaranteed.

“I won’t let anything happen to you,” I murmured, brushing her hair back gently. “Not while I’m still breathing.”

The decision came suddenly but it felt like it had been building for weeks. “I’m staying with you,” I said under my breath, as if sealing a vow. “Every second and every hour.”

No more distance, no more leaving her alone with maids and no more pretending this house was safe because it wasn't with them in it.

My jaw tightened, anger simmering beneath my skin. “Those two motherfuckers…” I hissed, straightening slowly. “They think I’m weak. They think I will just sit here and take whatever they throw at me.”

A bitter laugh slipped out. “They have no idea who they are dealing with.”

I began pacing the room, my thoughts racing faster than my heartbeat. “I could pull her out of school,” I muttered. “Keep her with me all the time. No risks and no exposure.”

The idea sounded insane and yet, it felt right.

“No one touches her, no one gets close, not without me watching.”

But then I froze, the house, the maids and the constant movement of people in and out.

My stomach twisted.“This place isn’t safe either…” I whispered, my voice dropping. “Too many eyes and too many ears.”

A chill ran down my spine.“What if one of them is working for them?” I breathed. The thought alone made my chest tighten painfully.

“No… no, I can’t risk it,” I said aloud.

I dragged my hands through my hair, frustration building. “I need control, I need somewhere secure. Somewhere they can’t reach us.”

Silence filled the room before my thoughts shifted again, sharper this time. Work.

My chest clenched.

“I need to go back,” I said firmly. “I have to.”

It wasn’t just about survival anymore, It was about secrecy, and if I stayed away too long..

“He will find out…” I whispered.

And that would destroy everything.

I stopped pacing, my body going still as Hayden’s face flashed through my mind. Cold, detached, and unbothered.

“He knows about my job,” I scoffed quietly. “And he doesn’t even care.” The bitterness in my voice surprised even me.

“It means everything to me and nothing to him,” I murmured.

My hands curled into fists. “But that’s fine,” I added, my tone hardening. “Let him stay distracted, let him focus on whatever the hell is consuming him right now.”

Because for once, his indifference worked in my favor. A slow, dangerous realization settled in.

“He’s not watching Emerald,” I murmured.

I glanced back at her sleeping form, my expression softening for just a second before turning steely again.

“And why would he?” I said coldly. “She’s not his daughter.” The words tasted bitter, but they were useful.

“He won’t protect her, he won’t even notice if something’s wrong.”

Which meant “I have to be everything,” I whispered. “Her mother, her shield and her protector.”

My breathing steadied as a plan began to form. “I will keep her close,” I said, nodding to myself. “Closer than ever.”

I moved toward the window, pulling the curtain slightly to peer outside, scanning the grounds like a paranoid fugitive.

“No more trusting anyone,” I muttered. “Not the maids, not the guards, and no one.”

A pause, then, quieter… “Not even him,” I added.

The weight of that truth settled heavily in my chest, but I didn’t fight it. I couldn’t afford denial anymore.

“I will figure out a way to work without leaving her exposed,” I continued, thinking aloud now. “There has to be a way. There has to be.”

Maybe shorter hours, maybe secret arrangements or maybe something riskier.

But one thing was certain, “I’m not giving up my work,” I said firmly. “And I’m not losing my child.”

I turned back to Emerald, walking over and kneeling beside her bed again.

Everything I was, everything I would become, it was for her.

“I will burn this entire place down if I have to,” I whispered, my voice low, deadly, and unwavering.

“Anyone who tries to touch you, I will destroy them,” I muttered with all seriousness.

Emerald stirred slightly, her tiny hand shifting as I gently took it in mine, holding it like it was the only thing anchoring me to sanity.

“They think I’m cornered,” I said softly. “They think I have no options.” A slow, dangerous smile touched my lips.

“Let them think that.” Because they were wrong, very wrong, and soon… They would find out exactly what a desperate mother was capable of.

  • Her Cold-Hearted Alpha’s Regret   50

Zach’s POVThe moment my eyes landed on her, everything else blurred into nothing.Livia stood across the grand hall like a memory that refused to die, elegant, composed, breathtaking in a way that felt almost cruel. The soft lights above only made her glow more, her presence commanding attention without even trying. My chest tightened just like that night… The first time I had seen her again after years apart, how my world had tilted, how my control had slipped for a brief, dangerous second. Back then, I had mistaken her silence for weakness, and I almost scoffed now.My jaw clenched as another memory forced its way in. The slap, the sharp, stinging crack that had echoed louder than any words she could have said. I could still feel it, the heat on my cheek, the shock that had rippled through my entire body, the way my pride had shattered in front of her. And now? Now she looked at me like I was nothing. No… worse like I was something filthy. My gaze dropped slightly, just in time t

Bella’s POVThere was a moment, just a brief, flickering moment, when I considered letting it go, but I know Zach had made his decision. A cold and final like I meant nothing to him.The more I replayed his words in my head, the more something dark and dangerous curled inside my chest. If I couldn’t change his mind, then I would make sure he choked on that decision. “Are you certain?” I asked, my voice low as I stood before one of my informants. The man nodded quickly, almost too eagerly. “Yes, Luna. Perry hasn’t stepped out all day. Guards say he’s still inside,” the informant said as a slow smile crept onto my lips.“Perfect,” I muttered excitedly.Perry’s mansion stood tall and quiet, the kind of silence that pretended nothing ever went wrong inside its walls. I didn’t bother announcing myself, as I have never done so.The doors opened anyway because they always did anytime I came.He was in the living room when I walked in half-dressed, clearly in the middle of preparing to leave.

Bella’s POVFor a moment, everything went silent like the world had been swallowed whole.I stood there, my fingers trembling at my sides, my chest rising and falling too fast, too unevenly as I blinked once. It seems as if my vision had betrayed me. As if this humiliation wasn’t real, but in the actual sense, it was.I was still shocked from the words or should I say the command of Zach?Is he really being serious about me not being good with him?Zach was walking away from me even as I stood watching him leave. “Zach,” I called, my voice came out low at first, strained, like it was dragged from somewhere deep inside my chest. He didn’t stop even as I called out to him and this made something inside me snap.“Zach!” My scream tore through the palace courtyard, sharp and wild, echoing against the walls like a warning siren as heads turned, guards stiffened, and servants froze mid-step, but Zach?He still didn’t turn or even feel concerned about my emotions. My hands curled into fists,

Bella’s POV“Zach!” I called as I noticed he was about to start the car and drive off. My voice tore through the room like a blade, sharp and unrestrained. The walls seemed to echo my fury, carrying it farther than I intended, but I didn’t care as I wanted him to hear it and I wanted him to feel it.“How dare you?!” I snapped, my hands trembling at my sides. “How dare you think you can show up to that event without me?!” I thundered but he didn’t respond immediately.I watched as he finally stepped down from the car and began walking towards me. He was slow, steady, and dangerous. My chest tightened as I watched the audacity, the sheer audacity of him. Did he think people wouldn’t talk? Did he think they wouldn’t notice his absence of a mate, his pregnant mate? Or worse, did he simply not care? That thought hit harder than anything else and my heart twisted painfully. Livia, the name burned through my mind like poison.“This is what she is doing…” I muttered under my breath, my lips

Bella’s POVI stood by the tall window in my room, my fingers gripping the curtain so tightly the fabric wrinkled in my hold. My reflection stared back at me from the glass, perfect, composed, but my eyes betrayed me as they burned.“I won’t lose,” I whispered to myself, my voice low and sharp. “Not to her, not to Livia.”But it seems the more I said it, the less convincing it sounded. Then the thought of Perry flashed in, he had been avoiding me for a while now, and that alone was enough to make my blood boil.I had called him again and again, but no answer. I have sent messages, tried to arrange meetings, but in all he ignored and declined them all. Each rejection felt like a slap to my face as I wondered what could have changed. I paced my room, my heels clicking aggressively against the marble floor as I replayed our last conversation.“He’s hiding something,” I muttered, my lips curling. “You think you are clever, Perry?” I asked, staring into space.I grabbed my phone again, di

Livia’s POVI didn’t sleep the night before, not really, because every time I closed my eyes, I saw him.Not as he used to be when we first met, not the man who once spoke softly and held my hand like I was something fragile and sacred. No, I saw the version of him that came later, the one with cold eyes, sharp words, and a touch that could bruise even without force. Then I was awake, my heart racing, only to find Emerald curled against me, her tiny fingers clutching my shirt as if I might disappear.“I’m here,” I whispered into her hair, over and over again, like a promise I was terrified of breaking. “I’m not going anywhere.”This was my world now, not the past, and not him but Emerald.Yes, only Emerald. The morning came too quickly.“Livia… you should at least try to eat something.” Hayden’s voice was gentle, careful, like he was approaching a wounded animal.I stood by the window, unmoving, watching the distant treeline sway in the wind, and my reflection stared back at me in th
