View MoreHer POVPeople were dogging left and right as my beast hurdled through them. I grasped the knob on the saddle with white knuckles, screaming despite myself. I had never been on a horse and we were moving fast. I could feel myself swaying as we ran and I was praying the beast would tire before I fell off.Out of the corner of my eye I saw a white flash. I wanted to look to see what it was, but my fear had my eyes fixed just above the horse’s head. My mind was screaming at me to watch where we were going, even though I couldn’t make much out in the dark. I could hear hoof beats next to me and knew someone was keeping pace. If I had a voice, I would have screamed for them to help me, to do anything. I could feel my eyes watering at the desperation of my situation.“Pull back on the reigns!” I heard him screaming but all I could do was clutch the saddle knob and shake my head. There was no way I was letting go of the on
Her POVMy heart was pounding as my mind contemplated flight or fight. There were a few hundred soldiers in front of me so running to the woods was no longer an option. Running back the way I came would be like running into a burning building. My chances of survival, extremely low – and that was if I could get past the men. I looked to the left and right, there weren’t any armies but the men from the woods would get to me before I got out of their range.Fight. I decided then and there that dying with daggers in my hands was better than being another prisoner. I took a deep breath, moved my head from side to side, and rolled my shoulders stretching out my muscles. This was it, my do or die moment and more than likely I was going to die. Mentally prepared, I took a defensive stance rotating my body to watch the men approaching me from both sides. As I rotated, my shoulder collided with something hard and my adrenal
His POV I am a seasoned warrior. I am trained for this. I am the best there is. I always have to repeat this mantra before battle. It keeps my head focused and my fears at bay. I can never let my men know that battle makes me nervous. I may be the best fighter in the kingdom, but I know death doesn’t care. We were originally planning on waiting a few more days to take the camp, but our scouts said there was a pretty good commotion this morning. They weren’t able to identify the person, but it was said Sir Duggar captured a prisoner of high regard. Whoever it was, they had managed to wound at least 10 soldiers before being captured. A few of the men were even claiming it was a powerful witch who stunned with her beauty before savagely attacking. The witch rumor had died pretty quickly. If Sir Duggar thought he had a witch on his hands, he would have set her on fire by now. Sir Duggar’s prisoner had me infuriated. My me
Her POVI was running out of food when we heard the shouting. A horn blew in the distance and I knew the camp was under attack. I closed my eyes and just listened to my salvation. The sound of battle rang around me and nothing had ever sounded so beautiful. Men were screaming and dying, horns were blasting and chaos was all around us. I couldn’t help the single tear that slid down my face, the distraction I so desperately craved had arrived.Sir Duggar was cussing and frantically running around the room attaching armor and weapons to his body.A man barged into the tent, “Sir! We are under attack!”“Well that is kind of obvious,” Sir Duggar snarled. “Who Wesley, who is attacking us?”“I think ‘tis the Bravousians, some were seeing green flags but tis dark Sir.”“Let us hope not, come help get this armor on.”It seemed like the battle r
Sir Duggar was uncomfortably close to me. He hadn’t hesitated to hurt me to prove his point and I could only imagine the kind of “fun” he had in mind. Knowing that I couldn’t scream meant it was probably very dark and painful. If I didn’t have to worry about getting out of this camp my options would have been plentiful. I could steal his dagger and slice his throat, or stab him in the heart. I could wait for him to drop his pant and then I could take off and run as fast as I could. I could try and choke him, pop his eyeballs out, or collapse his windpipe, but then his men would come and do even worse to me. I still couldn’t help but think this world would be better off without a man like Sir Duggar. As if my body knew the desperate situation I was in, my stomach let out a loud grumble. At this point I was starving and I was slightly amazed it has stayed quiet for so long. Sir Duggar glanced down at my midsection and I noticed h
Her POV I was practically dragged back to this camp. While the men did not “harm” me, they sure as hell weren’t nice or accommodating. As the trees started to thin, I noticed the loud sounds of several people being congregated in one location. It wasn’t long after that we broke through the tree line and I could see our destination. The camp filled most of a large meadow, it had to be the size of at least three football fields and it was densely packed. Surrounding the whole thing was a ditch lined with sharpened wood spears. As far as I could tell there was only one small way in or out. I tried to do a quick surveillance while we walked. I wanted to know how many men were guarding the entrance and how many were stationed along the perimeter. The only thing I could gather was a complete lack of discipline amongst the men. This was surprising given The Creepy Thin Man’s personality. I thought he would have run a very tight ship, but to my benefit, he seemed to
Her POV One of the men had managed to grab my cloak and I jutted back as my body moved passed my head. The man who grabbed me tried to climb on me while I was down, but I rolled to the right and got up to my knees. The second man grabbed my arm but I took the heel of my palm and shoved it into his nose, instantly breaking it. The man swore and turned away from me. The first man was coming at me again and I punched him in the throat as I spun and stood up. Before they could come at me again I took off into the woods. I had a decent heads start, but they were still chasing me. My heart was hammering in my chest but I had to keep going. I moved around trees and hurdled over fallen trunks before coming to boulder half way buried into the ground. I jumped up over it and launched myself forward, but I didn’t see the shallow cliff on the other side. I also didn’t see the group of men at the bottom of the cliff and I was only in the air for a second before I
Her POV I woke up in the forest and my head was pounding. How the hell did I get here? The last thing I remembered, I was at the bar talking to that creepy lady. I looked down and saw that I was wearing strange clothing. Definitely not the jeans and tee I went out in yesterday. I now had on black pants, similar to leggings but made out of a weird material, a light long sleeved top covered by a leather corset, and simple black boots. I could definitely rock this look, but I felt like I was dressed up for Halloween. To complete the ensemble, I had on fingerless gloves and a cloak. I felt around my new clothes and found some pockets. Inside were some odd coins, a few daggers, flint and a striker, and some cord. My phone and money were gone and I cursed that woman for robbing me. But how did she do it? I only remember having the one drink and why were my clothes different? The whole thing was not adding up. And how did I end up in the woods? I felt like a boulde
Her POV “Hello my dear,” I look over and see a very prim woman in her early 50s looking at me. She had on a blue business suit and her dark black hair was pulled into a tight bun. “Is this seat taken?” I glanced around the room and noticed that the bar was fairly empty. This woman chose the seat next to me for a reason. “I’m not really in the mood for conversation. Perhaps you would enjoy different company more?” “Oh don’t be silly, I came here specifically for you.” She smiled sweetly at me, but I could tell it was a loaded smile. “I’m sorry but I don’t believe we’ve met. You must have me mistaken for someone else.” I tried to turn back to my drink and ignore her, indicating that this conversation was over, but she wasn’t taking the hint. “Oh dear, I am here for you and I believe you are going to want to hear what I have to say.” She pulled out the seat next to me and sat down. She waved at the bar tender ever so gracefully a
