The world goes silent around me. As if the earth knew what I had just said was sad and was mourning with me.

“She lucked out before us then.” Leo said after a few minutes of silence.

The old joke hits me so hard that I am gasping for breathe.

“Yeah, yeah she did.”

Gasps come from behind me, I don’t turn around to see their faces. They won’t understand that the joke helped me.

Leo claps suddenly.

“I am starved. Fish and chips?”

“Is Daryl’s fish and chips still down there?” I ask but I’m moving in the direction of the fast food.

“Of course. He will continue to have business as long as there are teenagers to hang out here.” Leo laughs.

“Fish and chips?” Cecilia asks.

I blink, I forgot about them. This was the reason our other friends disliked when Leo and i were together, we talked to no one else.
