Sometimes, in the most barren spaces—relationships where not a single drop of warmth or affection was ever meant to exist—love blooms like an impossible lotus from the mud. You do not remain who you were. The armor falls away, the dominance vanishes, and you find yourself doing the only thing left to do: you completely surrender. It was the kind of total, ego-less devotion that Meera offered to Krishna, abandoning all societal bounds for a love that consumed her entirely. It echoed the humility of Sudama, who walked miles with a handful of beaten rice, laying bare his entire existence before his divine friend without a shred of pride. It mirrored the absolute surrender of the Gopis, who forgot the world, losing their very identities in the music of the flute.

chap 01

(unedited)

Outside the floor-to-ceiling glass house,

the rain poured down with relentless force, beating a fierce, rhythmic tattoo against the windowpanes.

A profound, enveloping silence hung over the surroundings, broken only by the steady, melancholic roar of the storm. The earthy, intoxicating fragrance of *petrichor*-the scent of wet earth-drifted thick through the damp air.

It was the kind of rain that poets wrote about, a weather meant to draw lovers closer, to weave their hearts and bodies together in a cozy sanctuary of warmth.

But inside this room, that romantic ideal was a cruel mockery. Here, someone was breaking. Someone was quietly shattering into a million pieces, trapped in an agony that the outside world could never begin to imagine.

Two naked bodies remained hopelessly, inextricably tangled on the oversized mattress.

Even after three grueling, raw, and exhaustive rounds of passion, the man still refused to detach himself. He remained firmly, stubbornly embedded inside her-a silent, visceral reminder of ownership, branding her with every breath as his and his alone.

His hand moved lazily yet possessively, kneading the sensitive bud of her bare breast, while his other hand slowly, almost ironically, stroked and caressed the long braid of her hair.

It was a dizzying contradiction of dominance and intimacy, a suffocating display of a captor treating his prisoner with twisted devotion.

Irritated beyond endurance, Divya tried to push against his hard, unyielding chest.

She was completely uncomfortable in this position, her nerves frayed, her body aching with persistent fatigue.

Her husband had already dragged her through three exhausting rounds of intimacy, and yet he still refused to grant her the basic human decency of space or release.

There was no inch of her skin left untouched, no surface that didn't bear the quiet, bruising testimony of his mouth.

Her soft lips, swollen and tender from relentless hours of kissing, throbbed with the memory of his weight. Dark, purple-hued marks bloomed like bruised orchids across the curve of her throat, and the soft rise of her chest carried the distinct, punishing imprint of his teeth-a raw signature of possession left behind in the dark.

Yet, Divya was far from a passive captive in the storm.

Even as Dev drove into her with a fierce, punishing rhythm, she would intentionally sink her nails deep into his back, dragging her sharp edges down his spine. It was her quiet rebellion, a desperate attempt to inflict pain on this ruthless man, to make him feel a fraction of the ache he was carving into her soul.

Instead of pulling back, her scratches acted like fuel on an open flame. The sharp sting only drove Dev deeper into a frenzy. His breathing turned ragged, his thrusts growing wilder and entirely reckless as he abandoned all restraint. He drowned out her breathless whimpers and her frantic pleas for him to slow down, deaf to everything except the desperate need to consume her completely.

He wanted to anchor himself inside her, to pull her so close that the lines between their bodies blurred into nothingness. The hunger for her was mutating, growing more insatiable with every passing day, spreading like a quiet infection through his veins. It terrified him, this sudden, blinding obsession that defied all logic-a compulsion he couldn't name, couldn't fight, and certainly couldn't understand.

Frustrated by her repeated shoving, Dev's expression darkened instantly. He grabbed her wrists with a punishing grip, pinning her hands down beside her head, and glared down into her face.

"Do you f*cking know what you are doing?" Dev barked, his voice a harsh, gravelly whisper.

"Why can't you just go to sleep like this?

Divya's eyes flashed with a potent mix of fury and despair. She glared back at him, her voice cracking as she spat out the words,

"No, I can't sleep! You... you are still inside me, Dev! You've done whatever you wanted to do... Now for God's sake, let me sleep in peace."

Dev's gaze narrowed into a dangerous squint. "No, I'm not finished yet. If you want to sleep, sleep like this. Otherwise, we can do a whole lot more."

Hot tears slipped from Divya's eyes, burning trails down her flushed cheeks. Choked with bitterness and hatred, she lashed out,

"Haan, you bastard only know how to do this! What else are you capable of except destroying other people's lives?

What did I even do to deserve this kind of punishment from you? Huh? I just spoke the truth! Men like you can never stomach the truth. You'll stoop to anything, destroy anyone, just to feed your own fragile ego."

Divya accused him relentlessly, her words spilling out even as hot, warm tears continued to overflow from her eyes-a physical manifestation of a broken heart and a bruised soul. She wanted her words to sting, to pierce through the armor of his indifference.

Instead, Dev looked at her as if she were merely a challenge waiting to be conquered. A slow, sickeningly smug smile curved across his lips as he met her desperate glare, leaning down to deliver a deliberate, mocking strike straight to her core.

"Yeah. I just wanted to crush your pride and your self-respect beneath my feet. And you know what? I think I've actually succeeded."

I curse the very day I met you. It would have been infinitely better if I had just died!"Divya again said without any fear...

The moment those words left her lips, a sudden, chilling flash of terror pierced straight through Dev's hardened exterior. The mere thought of losing Divya-of her slipping away from him forever-made his soul tremble.

His chest tightened violently. He stared down at her with wide, fierce eyes, his voice dropping into a desperate, threatening growl:

"Even if I have to go to hell, I will drag you down with me, Divya! So never, ever talk about dying again, do you hear me?"

The raw, obsessive possession radiating from him was palpable, a dark energy that Divya could literally feel pressing against her skin.

Dev stared down at her in silence for a few long moments. The tears tracing down her face caught the dim amber light of the room, shining like precious pearls. Even in her deepest despair, crying and furious, this woman possessed an ethereal, breathtaking beauty.

Slowly, softening just enough to close the distance, he leaned down and pressed his lips first to her left cheek, then to her right, tasting the salty path of her tears as if he wanted to swallow her sorrow whole.

His eyes dropped to her already swollen, bruised lips. Without a single moment's hesitation, he captured her mouth in a deep, consuming kiss. His tongue plundered the sweetness within, exploring every contour before his teeth grazed lightly against her petal-like lower lip, biting gently before smoothing the ache away with another slow, lingering smooch.

With that calculated, inescapable tenderness, Dev completely silenced her.

Once again,

like every other night, this quiet submission became the living proof of the injustice unfolding upon her body.

Sometimes, we trick ourselves into believing that what we feel is merely an illusion of the mind-a fleeting deception, a lie we tell ourselves to survive. We plunge blindly into the dark, unaware that by keeping ourselves in the shadows, we drag everyone around us into that same suffocating blackness.

You do not just burn alone; you burn everyone who touches your flame.

Pride is a relentless tyrant.

It refuses to acknowledge that anything could ever exist above it, that any force greater than its own stubborn ego could prevail. And that very pride becomes a dense, choking darkness, tearing apart lives from the inside out, leaving nothing behind but scattered dust.

The original arrangement had been simple: a divorce after just one month. Their contract had explicitly stated a marriage of merely thirty days.

She had foolishly believed she only had to endure this monster for a single month to pull her family through their crisis. But now, two agonizing months had already passed. Every single night followed the exact same ruthless pattern-Dev never spared her, not even for a single day. This man was completely insatiable, driven by a raw, relentless lust that seemed to have no end.

A solitary tear

slipped silently from her eye

, her thoughts drifting back to the person she used to be.

The girl of her past was fearless, someone who would stand up to anyone for her rights and empower other young women to do the same.

Yet today, she was reduced to this helpless state. If not for her family's desperate circumstances, she would have fought to the bitter end, choosing death over submission. But fate, it seemed, had written an entirely different, cruel script for her life.

The rain had been pouring relentlessly, drumming against the windows as if the sky itself had something to mourn. Completely unaware of the tragedy unfolding beneath its sound, the world outside carried on as usual.

In homes across the city, people sat beside the ones they loved. Couples laughed together, families gathered under warm lights, and the earthy fragrance of rain-soaked soil filled the air, bringing comfort to those fortunate enough to share it with someone they loved.

But somewhere in that same rain, an innocent girl was silently enduring a punishment she had never deserved.

After nearly an hour, Dev finally fell asleep.

Even in sleep, his arm remained tightly wrapped around Divya's waist, holding her against him. His breathing was slow and steady, while Divya lay completely still, staring into the darkness.

She knew he was aware that she wasn't comfortable being this close to him.

But perhaps he simply didn't care.

For Dev, her discomfort seemed insignificant compared to his own need for warmth and reassurance. He wanted to feel that she was there, even if she didn't want to be.

Divya couldn't understand him anymore.

Was it his pride that made him behave this way?

Or was it something darker-something driven by desire and possession?

Her thoughts wandered back to the same question that had haunted her for days.

What had I done wrong?

What mistake had she made that had condemned her to this life-to humiliation, pain, and a punishment she had never earned?

She had never asked for any of this.

She had never deserved it.

Outside, the rain continued to fall, washing the streets clean.

But nothing could wash away the wounds hidden inside her heart.

Divya slowly closed her eyes, exhausted from fighting thoughts that had no answers. Without realizing it, somewhere between the sound of the rain and the steady rhythm of Dev's breathing, sleep finally claimed her.

And for a few hours, at least, she was able to forget the world that had been so cruel to her.
