Cynthia’s POV‎

Due to the severe exhaustion, I drifted off to sleep.

‎I woke up to footsteps around the building. Each holding a gallon in their hands.

‎Was it dawn already? My heart started pounding faster.

‎Just then, they started pouring it around the edges of the building. These people had a plan— to burn me and my baby alive.

‎A bead of sweat formed on my forehead.

‎"Please don't do this, save me!" I begged the man standing close to where I sat, but he glared hard at me.

‎Was this how my baby and I would die?

‎They signaled themselves and started going out, with one giving another a lighter,

‎I shook my head vigorously.

‎Just then, a glass window at my back broke open, revealing a man jumping through it.

‎I looked at him in fright, but he didn't look like he came to harm me.

‎He quickly grasped me and the chair jumping us both through the window. I wince in pain as the glasses were cutting my skin.

‎When the cold breeze grazed my skin, I knew I had come out of that deadly place.

‎Just then, in my presence, the house blew up. So much fire exudes from the house. The thought of me and my baby being engulfed in that fury made my mouth quiver.

‎I tried to move my body, but I was still tied to the chair.

‎"Hold on." He muttered, his voice hoarse.

‎He brought out a blade immediately cut it all off and set me free.

‎Who was he? I couldn't even see his face.

‎What if he was sent by Daniel? These people would still find me again. I sprang up and began running at full pace..

‎Realizing I didn't thank him, I looked back but he was no longer there. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me.

‎I didn't know how far yet, but I knew I had run a very long distance—I still kept running.

‎When I got to the main road, I had run out of breath as I opened my mouth to drag air into my lungs.

‎Just then, I heard the hum of a car approaching, and when I looked forward, my eyes were met with a bus.

‎As though my life depended on it, which it does, I waved my hand with all the strength in my system.

‎I was thinking the driver was going to ignore me, but fortunately for me, he stopped right before I could give up.

‎I hopped inside immediately. He noticed my disheveled body, but my eyes said it all—I was stranded.

‎"Where are you going?" he muttered.

‎Since I was still in shock and my throat was still dry, I had to say something.

‎I stammered my location and he nodded. His eyes held pity.

‎My eyes brimmed with tears. Just yesterday, I lived in a very beautiful home with a perfect marriage. How things turned around in just a blink of an eye.

‎Slowly, the tears streamed down my face. While I was here, stranded and almost losing my life, Daniel must be there giving his ex all the softness he had missed giving her. The softness he was giving me—his substitute just to fulfill his heart for his ex.

‎Then I remembered Hailey. I could imagine how worried she would be by now.

‎She was supposed to come to where I was, I had planned to sleep over at her place, but my abductors showed up before her—Daniel’s mistress. I wouldn't blame her, it was all Daniel. If he hadn't deceived me all these years, I wouldn't be going through this phase right now.

‎Thinking about it, I felt my body engulfed with goosebumps. Her eyes, forehead, and lips were just the same as mine, just a slight facial difference.

‎It was no wonder Daniel often said he loved my eyes more than anything in my body.

‎It all made sense now. It was never a mistake that he called me Elle on our wedding day. She was Elle. I listened to Daniel say our wedding vow to me with somebody else's name.

‎When I told him about it, he said he was a bit tipsy due to overexcitement from getting married to me. I believed it all.

‎Even when we made love on our wedding night, he had mentioned Elle, pinning it on having another drink, I warned him to stop drinking, he listened to me—my sweet husband—so I thought. After that, I never heard him called that name again. I believe he was truly drunk and stopped drinking.

‎After a very long drive, the bus arrived at the location I gave him.

‎He nodded at me to go without giving him money. "Don't worry," he said.

‎Another pool of tears welled up in my eyes. How my situation changed drastically. From a posh, well-doted wife to a nobody in just a flash.

‎"Thank you very much. I appreciate." my husky voice bellowed.

‎"Be safe and take care of yourself." he smiled at me and drove off.

‎A few minutes later, I arrived at my grandma's old mansion.

‎The environment felt familiar. I had lived here with her when I was 20 before I got into university. And years later, she died.

‎Here I was again, in this house without her. I never imagined a day would come when I would come back with the mindset to live here.

‎Without removing the covers or dusting anything, I walked straight to my room.

‎My eyes stared around.

‎I swiftly removed the cover on my wardrobe, springing it open.

‎For the first time since in seventeen hours, my heart felt warmth. The gloominess in my eyes met warmth.

  • Her Return, His Heartache    Chapter 005

Cynthia's POV“Grandma,” this came out of my mouth in a slow whisper. The clothes I had left behind were well-arranged in my wardrobe and embedded in leather, as if she knew I wouldn't return anytime soon and I might need them when I did.I looked through my clothes. Then the realization dawned on me. I had lived well before I met Daniel—I threw myself away for Daniel. My head turned around and I was willing to be just the best for him. Do whatever he wants and in return, be loved.Thinking back, the gloominess in my heart started dissipating for some reason. He was absolutely not the best and it was a good thing I was no longer with him. Some relief was finally settling in my heart. Then my eyes drifted off to some papers at the corner of my wardrobe.I swiftly retrieved it.It was clean and situated in a well-enclosed environment.
