CHAPTER SIX

Saved

"Lucy’s POV"

My tears fell off…

My hands were trembling.

Five years ago…

Five years before Max, before Hong Kong, before the word escape even entered my vocabulary… It was just me. Luciandra Sander. Twenty-one, freshly graduated from the College of Fine Arts and Design, with a diploma that felt more like a question mark than a ticket to the future.

The day I left the orphanage, my suitcase contained little more than a few clothes, my sketchpads, and the unshakable memory of a man who had once pulled me out of the water and into the sunlight.

Felix Creed.

CHAPTER FIVESketchpad"Lucy's POV"12:03 PM. I stood outside the ECD's office, folder in hand, heart thudding like it was trying to break out of my chest. The hallway was quiet, unusually so. Every click of my heel on the polished floor echoed louder than I wanted. The frosted glass door loomed in front of me, the name etched cleanly in black print.Elias Tan—Executive Creative Director"Break the rules. Then make your own."I stared at that quote longer than necessary. It sounded so... sure. So bold. I wished I had that kind of certainty right now. My grip on the folder tightened until my knuckles went white."Kaya mo 'to, Lucy," I whispered to myself, almost inaudibly. Like saying it aloud might summon the courage I hadn't yet mustered.I raised my hand to knock—then the door swung open.I froze. And there he was.Elias Tan. In the flesh. He was taller than I remembered from agency lore. Broad-shouldered and lean, the kind of build that moved with intention. His black button-down s

I was starting from nothing in a foreign land, in a prestigious company, and in an industry, I hadn't touched in years. What could possibly go wrong? Well, everything. The space was open, bright, and buzzing with life. Parang hindi opisina—parang isang oversized art studio. May glass partitions, walls covered in concept boards and post-its, mismong sahig ay may painted lines and zones na may mga salitang "Inspiration," "Crit Room," at "Pitch Panic Room.""Welcome to Design," sabi ng HR staff. "You'll be with the Campaign and Visual Strategy team, p

This was it—my first real step back into the world, after everything. I kissed his forehead before heading to the bathroom. I looked... composed. But inside, my heart was pounding like crazy.I closed my eyes and whispered, "Kaya mo 'to, Lucy." Then I smiled a little, kahit pilit. Fake it until you make it, diba? Nakasuo

CHAPTER TWO Hope “Lucy’s POV” Maaga pa lang, nakarating na kami sa Hong Kong International Airport. The flight was smooth—surprisingly calm—at salamat sa Diyos, tulog si Max halos buong biyahe. He needed the rest, and honestly, so did I. Buong gabi akong hindi nakatulog sa kaba, kakaisip kung tama ba ang desisyong ito. Hindi lang ito basta byahe—this was the escape. The beginning of something new... or maybe just a pause from the chaos we left behind. Each step felt heavier, like the weight of my past was dragging behind me kasama sa mga bitbit naming maleta.

I know this looks cowardly, but I don’t have any other choice. My heart tore into pieces again. But this isn't just about my feelings for Felix. Oo, aaminin ko, I still love him. Pero mas takot ako ngayon sa ideyang mawala ang anak ko—my one and only son. On our way to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, I quickly called my cousin, Trixie. “Hey, Trix… Umm… can you do me a favor?” I asked hesitantly. “Wait! What happened? Where are you, Lu—” naputol ang sasabihin niya nang may kumatok sa pinto nila. “Teka lang, Lucy. I need to check who's knocking,” sabi niya. “Umm… if someone’s looking for me, tell them I’m not here, okay?” I told her. She put the phone down as
