"That's it for today. Don't forget to study for next week's quiz and all assignments are to be handed in before 4pm," Mrs. Brown announced, adjusting the round glasses that rested on the bridge of her nose. "Don't make me remind you."
This was followed by numerous murmurs from the class as some people went forward to hand in their assignments in advance while others left as fast as they could.
I already handed in my assignment earlier in the week so, I packed my books and stationery as I waited for the flood of students to clear.
My weekend was amazing. On top of spending the night with Higan, my sisters and I went to the mall. Mom didn't pry and took everything well. She didn't bring it up yet and as much as it was a good thing, I couldn't help but feel like I was walking on eggshells.
I hated it. This was a good thing and I was supposed to focus on the positive, but things were going too good th
×Jamie×Wednesday came in the blink of an eye. Only having one class today, I spent most of my time in the library until it was time to leave for the picnic. Natalia made sure to remind me through a text and even if she didn't, I wouldn't miss it.I nervously stood in front of Higan's car as I waited for him to arrive. He had already sent me a text, saying that he would be down in a few minutes.Looking up to check my surroundings, I immediately spotted him making his way to me. This is probably a late realization on my part but Higan was pretty popular. He attracted everyone's attention and it did not take a genuis to figure out why."Hi," Higan greeted with a soft smile when he was close."Hi," I greeted back, although my eyes couldn't meet his."Sorry for the delay. Did you wait long?" I shook my head while he walked to the other side of his car and unlocked it. "Get in."I did as I was told and Higa
×Higan×I picked up the empty chip packets and bowl, that previously had a fruit salad in it, from the carpet before going into the kitchen. Discarding the mess in the trash and the bowl in the sink, I went back to the living room.Five minutes ago, I was deep into a game that I started playing a few minutes after I came back from the picnic. Sleep soon caught up to me and retiring to bed was what my body sang hymns for at this point.I got my phone from the sofa and pressed the power button. I looked at the time and was surprised to see that it was almost midnight. It's weird how fast time flies when you are doing something unproductive. The doorbell rang and I looked at the door, wondering who it might be at this hour. I didn't order anything so, I decided to ignore it because it would obviously go away if the person thinks I'm not around or figures that they have the wrong apartment.I was wrong. The d
×Jamie× "Don't step on that!" Higan yelled and hit his fist on the arm of the chair in frustration after my character stepped on a landmine and exploded into pieces. "I tried my best," I said, looking down at him from the couch. "Yeah, you did." He reached out and stroked my hair before standing up from the carpet. "Are you having fun?" "Yeah, but it would be even better if I was actually winning." "Well, you won the racing game that we were playing earlier." "And?" He chuckled. "Maybe shooting games aren't for you." I put the controller aside and leaned on the sofa. "Probably, but they look so cool and you play them effortlessly." "I play quite often. I wasn't so good at first." "My mom would be on my neck if I played video games for more than two hours." "Well, I use video games as a stress reliever so, I sort of need it." He looked at the clock on the wall behind me.
×Jamie× "I have only spent two days at your place but I'm pretty sure that I have gained a significant amount of weight," I said as I walked into the living room with a cup of strawberry flavoured yogurt in my hands. Higan looked up at me. "You're talking like I'm forcing you to eat." "Well, you sort of are." I joined him on the carpet. "Who stocks up their fridge with so much tasty food?" "I still don't know what you like to eat so I filled it up as much as I could." "Thanks. I'll be fat in no time." He chuckled and leaned back into the sofa before putting his iPad on top of it. "I actually think that you would look quite cute even if you were chubby." I blushed and took a spoonful of yogurt in my mouth. "My shoulders feel stiff." "Is it that bad?" "Not really. It might have something to do with how I slept." Higan stood up and I moved forward a little so that he could sit behind me. "You basically slept on me. How are you the one feeling stiff?" He teased. "Maybe your body
×Jamie×The end of the semester was fast approaching and the school was bustling with activity because it was exam season and everyone was fighting for their lives.I haven't been able to meet up with the others for the past two weeks and if we did, we only exchanged quick greetings and went our separate ways.I wondered how Higan, Natalia and Adam were feeling since this was their last year in school and they had one more semester to go before they graduate. Working towards their degrees like that probably put them under a lot of pressure.Unlike them, Kate and I always found time to get attached to the hip and right now, we were enjoying cold dairy at a nearby diner underneath the warm afternoon sun. I leaned back into the wooden chair and watched Kate go through her textbook."And thus is the death of my stamina," she declared with a fake posh accent before putting her text book on the table and laying her h
×Jamie×The holidays finally arrived and I was beaming with excitement. The trip that Higan mentioned last week was actually something that he had been planning for us for a while now. When he told me that, I literally couldn't sleep because my heart wouldn't calm down. Adrenaline filled my nerves as I twisted and turned while thinking about how romantic our little trip would be.It took four days of begging my mom to let me go and when she finally agreed, I immediately sent Higan a text accepting his offer. This was also an opportunity to put the tips that Nico gave me to good use.Higan came to pick me up at 10am today and after saying goodbye to my family, we started off to our destination."Where are we going?" I asked, leaning into the seat as a soft breeze from outside the moving car swept through my hair. "Somewhere near the mountainside," Higan answered, his eyes on the road. "My family has a summer home there. We don't use it much but we have a lady w
×Higan×I stepped out of the glass cubicle of the shower and dried myself off with a towel. Putting the towel aside, I got another and wrapped it around my waist. I met the gaze of my reflection in the mirror.Being in this place brought back so many wonderful memories. This was the place I spent most time with my parents. I could vividly remember all the fun things that we did every time we would come here. Mom would wake me up every morning and the scent of toast was always around her. I would go downstairs and find Dad waiting for me before he could start the morning with his daily bad jokes. I usually refused to go to the airport with them because everytime I did, I would bawl my eyes out. The look my mom would give me spoke multitudes of how she felt the same but I'd either be too sad or angry to notice. I never expected to bring Jamie here but when the idea crossed my mind, it warmed me up inside. I liked sharing this part of my life with him and with everything that's been h
×Jamie×"Hig!" I yelled and pointed at the red kite soaring above me. "Have you taken a video?"He chuckled, still holding his phone up. "It's been rolling since you started," he replied.I grinned and tightened my hold on the string when the wind picked up. "I wonder how high it can go.""Any higher and you'll be picked up along with it."I glared at him. "I'm not that skinny.""You're as light as a feather." He put his phone down and saved the video. Standing up from sun lounge, he put his phone on the chair and took off his shirt. "Stop playing with that kite and join me in the pool.""Not yet," I said, lowering my kite a little. Higan and I found this kite yesterday. It was slightly torn but I managed to fix it with stitches and some patches of abandoned blue cloth that I found in the garage. To others, it probably would look like the ugliest kite on the planet but to me, it was like gold discovered by a poor man. Today, we decided to spend most of our afternoon at the back of
