The next freezing morning soon rolled around, Baxter and I up at the crack of dawn to head off to The Foster Hotel to speak to some people who may be able to help him on the night. I still had no idea what city I had been staying in but from the length of the drive, it was quite a substantial distance from where I lived.

Watching as the freezing world went by, my mind drifted to where it seemed to go each time I’ve had a spare moment since, Peter. Before I was forced to run for my life, Peter was all my mind would think about, I still don’t understand what had happened for him to drastically change his mind and move on, it was perfect for me. The moment the news broke just two weeks after we had parted ways that he was engaged to some woman, it was as though the life I had built around him was all lies, the way he said he felt towards me was nothing but fabrication.

Once the initial sadness had subsided, it was deep anger that poured my every thought, how dare he throw me away as th

This time as we drove back through the bright town I had spent much of my time, a smile sat on my own lips feeling relieved that I was able to get to see the Harrison’s. Whenever I was lost or just needed a shoulder to cry on, my father of course was never there but they were. Now neither of us had to worry anymore, we were all okay. While I looked out of the window, I did catch the looks Baxter would send me from the driver's seat, deep in his eyes, he was attempting to work me out without having to speak. I had gotten him what he wanted, the perfect way to get in and out of that building without getting caught but I knew deep down, that’s not what he thought when he looked to me. “When were you going to tell me, it was your birthday next week?” He asked breaking the silence that gripped the car, his question allowing me to shrug a little keeping my eyes locked onto the town before me, a place I hadn’t seen in some time. “I wasn’t going to tell you, birthdays have never been a hug

Once Baxter had disclosed more of his terms and what would happen if the Harrison’s not only did not agree but if they were to tell anyone what was happening, the small office dipped into one of the most tense silences I believed I had ever heard, even Jasper who was always quick witted didn’t make a single peep. My eyes locked on the side of Baxter’s face as though it was my turn to wonder if I’d heard him correctly, before I slowly turned my head back to the Harrison’s. Pamala was looking down at the floor as though she was racking her brain with all her thoughts while Theodore, simply looked between Baxter and I with a different expression. “Before I agree to anything, Rose, I need you to answer me honestly, remember there is no point in lying to me, I always see right through them.” He said looking away from Baxter to stare me right in the eyes, a gulp cascading down my throat but I nodded my head agreeing. “Is this man truly somebody you not only want to stay with but trust, w

The warmth which radiated from their little office type room was definitely needed, it was way below freezing outside and my hands felt as though they were going to fall off! As I walked in, their son Jasper looked shocked to see me but followed his father’s instructions to lock the main door in case anybody wanted to walk in and see me standing here. “Rose is here! I thought you were missing!” Jasper exclaimed in shock watching as Pamela pulled two seats out for Baxter and me to sit, who I caught watching Jasper with a pointed look as though he was working this man out. “Your mother and I will explain everything to you later, just wait by that door and make sure no one walks in, alright?” Theodore says pushing Jasper away from the room, so we could talk, even though he didn’t want to, he listened to his father and became our look out man. “Due to the circumstances, I can see you don’t have long to chat so what can we help you with Mr Baxter?” Pamala asks taking a seat right in

The longer my eyes rested upon the face of a man these men were planning to rob, the more my heart slowly began to break slightly. This man had brought me such happiness during my life but by the end, lumbered me with the worst gut-wrenching heartache I believe I could have experienced, I truly thought I would never get over him, I was lost. Realising I hadn’t spoken since staring at the photo of Peter, I force myself out of that mindset I seemed to fall into each time my eyes fall on a photo of him, having to clear my throat before I spoke. “I know of Peter yes, his father owns a huge oil company that he is set to inherit either when his father dies or simply wants to retire. He’s rich now living off his father's money but when the time comes, he’ll be on the same level as my father.” I explained pushing the photo along the table so my eyes wouldn’t be threatened to stare down and remember all of those same memories that pounded my head for weeks after. “Speaking of your father an

I remained by the oven beside Smith as I taught him the simple way I make scrambled eggs, this was something I had to figure out when I was around ten. When I wasn’t palmed off with whatever nanny or other people my father had to watch me, I was left in one of his huge mansions all by myself. When all of the snacks had ran out, I was forced to figure out how to make my own food, many burns and breakages later, I was able to make simple dishes out of what ingredients I could find. “Now it’s plated, you can add whatever spices you want, I don’t know if we have any here though.” I continued with my tiny cooking lesson watching as Smith guided the steaming scrambled eggs onto a white plate. While Smith began to look through the very empty cupboards for anything to spice up his food, I took the frying pan and wash it up, the conversation from those behind me hard to ignore now I wasn’t concentrating on Smith and making sure he didn’t burn the apartment down. “This place has a bunch of c
