LOGINSinclair POV
Isaiah heard more than he should have at the end of my conversation with Kaia. Now he is asking me about the trackers I found in my car.
“Honestly, I have it handled, Isaiah.” I said.
“Listen, Kaia and you are close, right?” Isaiah asked.
I raised an eyebrow, “Yeah. Best friends. She would even say we are soul sisters.”
“What kind of mate would I be if I didn’t look out for her sister then?” he replied.
I smiled, “I am going to love seeing how your relationship with her unfolds.”
He is already thinking about the people who are most important to her. I am one of the very few and I feel honored that I am. She is important to me too; just like a sister would be for most people.
Isaiah smirked, “I’m sure it will be like oil and vinegar. In any event, you are also a pack member. We look out for our own. So, tell me about the trackers.”
I chuckled, “Oil and vinegar make for a great salad dressing. It can complement one another under the right circumstances, Isaiah. As far as the trackers, I found five in my car.”
“Five?” Isaiah’s eyes darkened. “Who the fuck puts five trackers in a person’s car?”
“That’s what I’m going to find out. I pulled them all out and disabled them. Then I took a picture of each one for the make and serial number. I am going to hack into the database and figure out who got them and then go from there.”
“You think you are doing this by yourself?” Isaiah asked incredulously.
“Um, yeah.” I said with a sarcastic face. “Isaiah, I know you are going into protector mode, but honestly, before you were in my life or even Kaia’s life, we were handling things on our own.”
Isaiah sat back, “How long have you both been doing this type of work?”
“Since we turned eighteen. Three years now.” I said.
“In three years, you have been able to do all these things? Hack systems, improve security and defenses, find digital threats and train to fight and kill?”
“Why does that sound impossible to you?”
“It’s not, but it sure as hell wouldn’t be easy to do in three years, Sinclair.” Isaiah said.
“It’s only impossible when you have other options in your life, Isaiah. I certainly didn’t have other options. I learned on my own. Kaia had options but no one cared to hear what she wanted. So, she made do with what she could do without getting anyone else’s buy-in.” I said.
“Tell me about her husband. Do you know him?” He asked.
“No. Kaia has always kept that part of her life private.” I said and then added. “She did confess that she had hoped to make it work with him in the beginning, but he always looked down on her and insulted her.”
I see Isaiah’s eyes turn dark. He clearly doesn’t like hearing that Kaia is being mistreated. I approve of his behavior towards her so far.
“He doesn’t abuse her, does he?” He asked and his voice was tight. I feel bad that I have to keep him in the dark.
“Aside from the emotional and mental, no. According to Kaia, he has never touched her.” I said.
Isaiah sighed and nodded. “Okay. Promise me that if you find out she is being abused, you will tell me. I will protect her.”
I laughed softly, “Kaia will wipe the floor with any person who tries to hurt her, Isaiah. If anything, you’d have to pull her off someone, not the other way around.”
Isaiah smiles and I think there is a glint of pride in his eyes. That’s good. All this conversation is good for assessing him. I want him to be good to my friend. She is important to me, and I want to see her happy.
As we are wrapping up our conversation, Rodrigo comes over. “Hey. I didn’t want to interrupt your conversation, but I thought I would come over and say hi.” He said.
I smiled, “Sure. Sit. How are things with the laptop? Any alerts?”
Rodrigo smiled widely. It kind of reminds me of Thalia’s smile. You can tell they are related. “Not a peep. Everything you did is working. It was really impressive.” He said.
“Good. If you get an alert, let me know. I will have fun playing my own version of ‘Battleship’.” I said with a little laugh.
“Will do.” He said.
I looked at both Isaiah and Rodrigo. “As much as I would love to continue talking, I need to work on my car. I have quite a few things to go over.” I stood up and got ready to leave, but my phone buzzed.
When I saw the caller ID, I pressed the decline button and put my phone away.
“Who just called to make your eyes darken like that?” Rodrigo asked. When I look up, both he and Isaiah are looking at me.
“No one important.” I said. “I’m going outside now. Later.”
As I am making my way outside, my phone once again started ringing. I see the caller ID and I ignore it again. After a few moments, my phone buzzed. This time a text message came through.
[Chad: Dad wants you home. Now.]
[Sinclair: I said I was leaving permanently. I meant it.]
[Chad: Dad said that if you want to know about your birth parents, you need to come back. Now.]
I stopped and read that again. He has had information on my parents all this time and never told me? I could have looked for my parents. I feel anger rising inside of me and my hands start shaking. I feel tears threatening to fall too.
“Sinclair?” I heard Isaiah behind me. When I turned and looked at him his expression went from curious to concerned very quickly. “What’s wrong? What happened?” He said rushing over to me.
“I need to leave for a while. I have something important to do.” I said.
“Sinclair, what is going on?”
“Nothing. Business that I thought was finished isn’t finished yet. I’m going to get an overnight bad ready. I need to leave.”
Jonah walks up, “Hey Sinclair!” He says cheerfully, until he sees my face and then his expression darkens. “What happened?”
I take a deep breath, “Nothing. I need to leave for a couple of days. I will be back.” I said.
I walked past both Isaiah and Jonah and I can feel their eyes on me as I walk away. I looked down at my phone and reply to my asshole foster brother. That’s not even an accurate description of who he is to me. He is just an asshole.
[Sinclair: I’m not exactly close by. I’ll be there in a couple of days.]
[Chad: That’s my Sinner. See you then.]
“Sinclair?”
I turned around and I saw Isaiah. I sighed, “Yeah?”
“How about we take the jet? I will go with you, and we can be back this evening. I don’t think you should go alone.” He said.
I guess this is what belonging feels like. Someone actually caring about what happens to you. It warms my heart to be a part of this pack.
I smiled gently at Isaiah. “Okay.”
Isaiah POVSinclair found her mom. That’s something. It took her a while, but she did it. She is truly capable. I think whoever she ends up being mated to will definitely be lucky to have her. Kaia and I walked back down and updated Aiden and Thalia on Sinclair.“Now she is scared?” Aiden asked.Thalia speaks up, “I get it. Her life has been shit. Now that she has finally found her mother, she is afraid of how much shittier her life could get. She wants to be wanted, and she is afraid she won’t be.”I guess I hadn’t thought of it like that either. I can’t imagine how much it would suck to exist and no one wants you. I mean, the pack wants her. She is respected here. It’s not the same as that personal connection, though. Like what Aiden and Thalia have, or what Kaia and I have. It’s different when it’s parents and kids, too.“Let’s get going. We need to finish the handover to Isaiah and then get things transitioned to his authority afterward,” Aiden said.We get in the SUV and ride to
Aiden POVThalia is still catching her breath after our little, intense lovemaking session. She smiles slyly at me. “I’m already pregnant, you know.”I laughed, “That doesn’t mean I quit practicing. It just means we have at least six more to go. I need to stay on my ‘A’ game.”She looked at me, still smiling, but I could tell she wanted to talk about something serious. She rolls over and cuddles me. She’s running her fingertips on my chest, making me growl low in my chest. She knows her touch does things to me.She smirks, “With Isaiah leaving for Ironclaw, have you thought about who will be the new beta?”“I have, but I don’t have anyone in mind. I was going to talk to Isaiah about it and see if he has any recommendations. If not, then I will talk to Reid and see if he has anyone exceptional in his pack.”“What about Sinclair?”“Isaiah and I both spoke about her. We both agree; she doesn’t seem to want that kind of responsibility. She likes doing tech security. I’m fine to create a w
Kaia POVAfter breakfast, Isaiah and I went to see Dr. Moreno. Thalia and Aiden are going tomorrow since they just had an ultrasound at Crossfang. When we got to the pack hospital, the nurses smiled at us and one side-eyed me. I don’t know what that was about, but I move on. All the flavors in the world, and she is choosing salty. Her aura is giving off jealousy. Oh well, too bad.Isaiah grabs my hand, and then I feel anger radiating from the nurse. She clearly has a thing for Isaiah. Does he know?“Do you know that nurse?” I asked. He turned around, and she blushed. Yeah, she is jealous of me because Isaiah is my mate.“Yeah, she has tended to me a time or two after battles. Why?”“She likes you,” I said as we went into the exam room.Isaiah smirked, “Jealous?”“No, but she is,” I scoffed.“And you know this how?”“Her aura is green with envy. Then that energy turned jealous.”“Are you using your gift on pack members?”“Not intentionally. Truth be told, I don’t know how to turn it on
Paul POVThat fucking bitch. She is even more cunning than I realized. I just lost my pack to one of the weaker Willis boys. Isaiah is nothing. My wolf was overly emotional, and the thought of losing the pack made him even more upset, especially since Kaia was mated to Isaiah.‘I wanted her. I always wanted her. You were too damn stubborn! Now we lost everything!’ Lupin said.‘A woman like her that could control the emotions of a man was never a good thing,’ I argued.'News flash! She played on your emotions like a fucking psychiatrist, idiot! You let her get under your skin. She didn’t even stumble. A woman like her would have helped you grow this pack. All you thought about was cum-dumping in every woman that batted her eyelashes at you, dumbass!’ Lupin huffed and went to the back of my mind.I hate when my wolf is right. Kaia would have made a good Luna. Now she will be someone else’s Luna, and it will be within my own fucking pack. The thought is gnawing at me. All the work I put i
Isaiah POVMy brain stopped functioning for at least two minutes when Kaia said my pup needed to eat too. Storn was in my head, preening around, clearly proud of himself and excited about being a dad.I’m not going to pretend I don’t feel the same way, though. I’m fucking ecstatic. Aiden came up to me as Thalia and Kaia started walking to the dining hall.“Congrats, bro. Now the pain begins,” He chuckled.“Pain?”“Yeah, you won’t be sleeping much. Get ready for midnight abominations called cravings, too,” Aiden chuckled.“Then I’m glad we are doing this together so we can drink our sorrows later.”We both laughed and followed our mates into the dining hall. We had so much to talk about, but now there is a lingering question. Actually, there are several lingering questions. First, who is replacing me at Blackstone? Second, who will be my ranked team? Third, Moon Goddess set this up for Kaia and me to run Ironclaw, which means there will be a responsibility we alone will know how to hand
Kaia POVI think I broke my mate. He is staring at me with his mouth open. Everyone is waiting for his reaction, but I can see Rory and Nala fidgeting with excitement. Austin and Rebel are waiting to see Isaiah’s reaction, and I’m starting to get nervous. He’s been dropping subtle and not-so-subtle hints. I haven’t said or done anything to prevent myself from getting pregnant, and I know it will be quicker. Right now, though, he isn’t reacting.“Stickler?”His eyes blinked, and then a smile spread across his face. The wider the smile, the more it reached his eyes, and then out of nowhere, he scooped me up and started swinging me around, yipping and laughing. He put me down and kissed me passionately in front of everyone. When he let go, he grabbed my face lovingly, “Are you sure?”I nodded shyly. “I took a test. It came back positive.”Everyone around us starts congratulating us, and Thalia hugs me hard. “We are going to have our pups around the same time. They are cousins and will gro
