NYX'S Pov

"There has been a mix-up, Luna." The doctor casually adjusted his tie.

"What---" I let out a small, shaky laugh. “What do you mean, doctor?” I kept blinking, trying to steady myself.

My thoughts started racing. One hand tightened around my purse while the other moved to my stomach, holding it without thinking.

"Did... Did something happen to my pup?" I asked, and my voice was barely audible, even though I had tried to make it steady.

I couldn't lose my baby. Not after everything I had been through. I had spent 15 years waiting for this miracle and now something was wrong with the baby?

My fingers pressed harder against my stomach. "Doctor, tell me. What's wrong with my child?"

The doctor let out a deep sigh. "Luna, your baby is fine and is definitely not going to be like the last ones---"

I felt the colour return to my face as my chest eased up. "The mix-up?"

"We made a mistake with the insemination."

For a second, I just stared at him. The words did not sink in, they floated in my head and I could not grasp them.

“A… mistake?” I repeated. My fingers tightened around my stomach without me realizing it.

The doctor nodded, avoiding my eyes for a moment before looking back at me. “The sample that was used… it wasn’t the Alpha's.”

Everything went quiet. I could hear my heartbeat in my ears. It was loud and fast.

“What?” I whispered.

“It was a mix-up at the lab,” he continued, his voice careful now. “Another donor’s sample was used instead.”

My head shook slowly. "No... No... no, that's not possible."

My lips parted, but no words came out. My chest rose, then stopped halfway like I had forgotten how to breathe.

The pup had to be for Adrien, it had to be. This was supposed to fix everything. This was supposed to give us another chance at happiness.

My fingers curled into my stomach, holding it tighter like I could protect it from his words. Like I could push them back inside him.

“You’re mistaken,” I said, my voice barely there. “Check again.”

The doctor sighed, and that sound alone made something inside me drop. “We already did,” he said quietly.

“No… no, that’s not right.” I swallowed hard, my eyes burning. “That’s not right.” I let out a short, broken laugh that did not sound like mine. “After everything? After all this time? This is what you’re telling me?”

My vision blurred for a second. I blinked quickly, trying to clear it as I dragged in air, but it didn’t feel like enough.

If it wasn’t my husband’s… Then whose was it? The thought hit me so hard my stomach twisted.

I did not want to ask, I already knew I would not like the answer. But I couldn’t sit there and not know.

“Then…” My voice cracked. I stopped, swallowing hard, trying again. “Then whose is it?”

“Whose is it?” I asked, my voice coming out sharper this time.

He adjusted his tie again, even though it was already straight. His fingers lingered there for a second longer than necessary before dropping back to the table.

My stomach dropped. “Doctor!" My voice was steady. “Whose child am I carrying?”

He still didn’t answer immediately. His eyes flickered away from mine, then back again. I caught it. It was guilt.

“The sample… it was not supposed to be used,” he said carefully.

My throat tightened. “You’re not answering me.”

He went quiet again. His hand moved to the edge of the table, tapping once, then stopping as he caught himself.

“I need a name,” I said, my voice cracking this time. “Who is the father?”

His jaw tightened slightly. For a moment, I thought he wouldn’t say it. “It belongs to… Crux Matteo.”

He said the name in a low voice, as if it were not something to say lightly. I blinked, trying to understand, but it meant nothing to me.

“I… I don’t know who that is,” I said slowly.

He hesitated, eyes holding mine longer than necessary. “You don’t?”

The doctor paused, I watched him closely. He almost spoke, then held back. “He is… a registered donor,” he finally said.

"Then I need his address and everything you have on him." I spat out, as I stood up.

"Luna--"

"This is your fault and you need to atone for it." I leaned against the desk, dragging him closer with his tie. “You don’t tell anyone about this,” I said, my voice was low. “Do you hear me? Not a word. If anyone finds out, I will make sure it’s the last mistake you ever make.”

The doctor’s face went pale as he nodded quickly. “Of course, Luna. I understand.”

I left the clinic with my head spinning and my world colliding with itself. How on earth was I going to tell Adrien the news?

He had saved his sperm before he got sick and was our last resort to continuing his bloodline. Here I was carrying another man's child.

I let out a deep sigh. "What do I do?"

Stepping on the porch of the pack house, I finally felt a bit of calmness as the usual smell of herbs filled the air even though it made me nauseous. I could hear noise coming from the house, which was unusual, as the only person allowed inside was the alpha, and he ought to be on bed rest.

I hurriedly walked in toward the noise, stomach twisting, mind screaming at me to turn back. But I didn't give it a thought.

My hand shot to my mouth before I could stop it. My knees felt weak, and a cold shiver ran down my spine. My stomach lurched as my eyes fixed on the scene— the one I had never imagined seeing.

Sera, my lady-in-waiting, riding my husband. His hands tangled in her hair, her head thrown back, moaning.

"Adrien!"

Chapter 14. Nyx's pov It had already been a long day of me serving the customers at the diner. My fingers had pressed against so many orders that it was starting to feel numb, still I wasn't ready to stop. I could feel Rhea's judgmental eyes on me. She would at times pause to check if I was handling the dishes alright or if I was about to clock out of being a normal person. I had moved to get another set of orders ready when I felt something sharp move through my lower abdomen, I held on discreetly to the counter, acting like I was checking on something when someone gripped my shoulder.“Hey…” It was Rhea. She had worry written all over her face and it was terrifying to see that my strong facade didn't have a lasting effect on her. “Are you okay? You don't have to answer that because I know you're not. Come this way.” She directed me to the back of the kitchen and made me sit down.“Rhea, I'm totally fine. It's just a—” Another sharp pain moved again and this time, it had me compl

Crux’s POVI could feel the back of my throat itching furiously. I needed something to die down the thirst that surged through me.As blood dripped to the floor of my office, Aethros was already pressing against my chest. The need was burning fast, and I needed to quench it.“Still taking deep breaths to convince yourself that it will go away?” Aethros growled. His movements were demeaning, and I couldn’t find a way to get him to stop. “You need to feed. Feed on something.” He sang in my ear like a song.It was so urgent. I was starting to wonder how I was going to get my hunger to die down, but the only way I could think of was the one Aethros told me, and that was me feeding.I reached for my phone and called Reyes, requesting his immediate company. Reyes didn’t waste any time; he was already in the office seconds after I had called him.“You asked…” His voice trailed off when he noticed the blood that had pooled on the floor. Dread shimmered through his eyes. “Do I need to make the

CruxThe paper of the folder felt rough beneath my fingers as I flipped to the next page.It was the fifth time I had read through it tonight. The file was thin, filled with medical reports, blood work results, and routine notes from the clinic.Normal blood pressure, low iron levels and vitamin recommendations. Somehow, I had memorized all of it.Yet I could not close it.“Call Reyes,” Aethros growled from the dark corners of my mind, his clawed paws pacing back and forth across my subconscious. “He is taking too long. Demand the full report. We need to know where she is right now.”“Shut up, Aethros,” I muttered under my breath, staring down at the small clinic intake photograph clipped inside the folder.Nyx Jackson stared back at me, her expression serious, almost irritated with whoever had taken the picture. I had looked at that photograph five times tonight, and I had no idea why.“She is out there unprotected,” Aethros snarled, his voice rising in volume until my ears rang. “Th

Nyx’s POV I froze, my breath catching in my throat. I remembered this feeling. I remembered it from fifteen years ago, and from every failed attempt after that. The sudden spill of warmth and wetness before the cramping started. The physical proof that my body had failed again. “Nyx?” Rhea asked, noticing the way I had gone still. “What is it?” “I’m bleeding,” I whispered, tears spilling over my eyelashes and mixing with the rain on my face. “Rhea, I’m bleeding. I’m losing it.” Fifteen years of losses rushed back into my mind like a wave of ice water. The doctors’ pitying looks. Adrien’s disappointment turning into resentment. The endless IVF treatments, the loans, the quiet crying in the bathroom so no one would hear me. I couldn’t lose this baby. I couldn’t go through that agony again. “Listen to me,” Rhea said, reaching out to grab my wrist with a weak grip. “You are not losing this baby. Do you hear me?” “I feel it, Rhea,” I said, my voice cracking. “I feel the wetness. It

Nyx’s Pov “Rhea!” I cried out. “Stay where you are, Nyx!” Rhea blurted out. She tried to push herself to her feet, but a gasp escaped her lips. Her knees gave out, and she collapsed back to the floor, her chest rising and falling heavily as one hand clutched her side. Dark, thick blood oozed through her fingers, staining her clothes. I felt my heart drop into my stomach. “Rhea…” I tried to move toward her, but a hand grabbed my shoulder, dragging me backward. “Not so fast, little bird,” a dark voice growled in my ear. “Get off her!” Rhea hissed from the floor, clutching her bleeding side as she tried in vain to raise a hand toward him. She let out a harsh, wet cough. “I can’t… I can’t stop the bleeding. They cut me with wolfsbane…” Panic crashed into me so hard it became difficult to breathe. In a burst of pure instinct, I locked my hands over my stomach to protect my baby, threw my weight backward, and slammed the back of my head directly into the man’s face. A sickening crunc

NYX’S POVFourteen days. That was how long I had been living above Rhea's diner.I rolled onto my back and stared at the cracked ceiling, listening to the laughter drifting up from the kitchen below. Dawn hadn't even broken yet and the diner was already alive but I wasn't.No matter how exhausted I was, sleep refused to come. Every time I closed my eyes, my mind found something else to worry about. It was either money, the baby or the stranger whose life had somehow become tied to mine.I let out a slow groan and buried my face into the pillow. "Why won't you just sign those damn papers?" I muttered, my voice sounding muffled against the pillow as I squeezed my eyes shut. For the past two weeks, I had done everything I could to avoid the one thing I knew I could not escape forever. Sooner or later… I would have to face Crux Matteo again and the thought alone made my stomach tighten.I still could not understand him. He had every reason to walk away. The pregnancy had happened because
