Chapter five

As Darell released Chris and the door, he reflected that the time had come.

Without being questioned, it was time for his life to take a drastic turn.

To calm his racing heart, he let out a loud sigh before opening the door and entering.

Once they all noticed him, everyone remained silent.

While greeting his mother, Darell nodded in response to the salutations of the other members of his pack.

The woman scowled at the exposed buttons on his shirt, but Darell didn't care.

He was already experiencing a loose button if that was what he wanted.

"Alpha, I find it unbelievable that you are already 27 years old and have a significant other.

"I said, wiping an exaggerated tear from my eyes," his mother said.

Before proceeding to his seat, Darell rolled his eyes at his mother's over-the-top behavior.

He gave the all-clear to start the ceremony after taking a seat in the golden chair designated for the Alpha.

Knowing his fate sooner rather than later was better for him.

When the pack's priest emerged, he knelt before the Alpha and bowed his head.

He pulled out a few things and placed them on the floor in front of him.

He arranged them and then started chanting some words.

The priest began to murmur the words, eventually closing his eyes.

Your Luna is dead, Alpha. The clergyman declared.

The entire hallway gasped in surprise.

When Darell heard the man's assertion, he too sat up straight in surprise.

Darell had the impression that the goddess had pulled some sort of prank on them just before they overthrew her.

How could his mate be dead?

Why would his mate be dead already?

Everyone in the room started muttering as they started discussing what had just happened to their Alpha.

His mother gave a loud shriek and moved closer to the priest.

"Priest, please double-check.” His mother asked the priest.

Once more, the priest did as he had done before: he shut his eyes.

Everyone waited in anticipation of his new words this time as he changed them while speaking.

The priest's eyes started to tear after a minute, he was experiencing an exhilarating moment.

When Darell finally opened his eyes, he noticed that they were as red as blood.

The priest directed his red-blooded eyes at Darell's mother.

"My lady, The Alpha's mate is dead! "the priest reiterated.

As Darell heard those words once more, he crossed his hands over his lap.

He noticed how pitiful his mother, sister, and the other members of the group were as they observed him.

They all assumed he was shocked by the revelation when they observed that he remained silent and made no other response.

The female members of his pack started sobbing loudly and dramatically.

Darell thought about how cunning women were and shook his head inwardly.

Regardless of the tears on their faces, he knew that they were all secretly smiling.

Alternatively, they could be crying tears of happiness because they knew they would still have him for a short while.

He was aware that some of them might even consider him picking one of them and his Luna to provide the pack with an heir.

His mother and sister were the only ones who were crying sincere tears on his behalf.

He was already sick of seeing the rest of them because he knew they were made-up feelings.

He rubbed his throat before rising.

Darell said, "Well, the party is over, and I'm going out of here with my pack."

Without saying a word, Chris, his beta, followed him closely.

Chris firmly closed the door after them as they entered Alpha Darell's room.

Chris told Darell, "You can show your happiness now”.

Darell swung around to face his friend.

Darell gave his beta the biggest smile he could muster at that precise moment when the man arched his left brow in his direction.

His Beta laughed.

Although Darell himself was anything but depressed, he couldn't believe that people in the hallway were grieving for him because his partner had passed away.

No, he wasn't upset about the death of a friend who he had never met or had any knowledge of.

He was very relieved to no longer have to worry about mating.

He could enjoy himself with women more because he didn't have a mate.

He was relieved that he would soon be able to stop worrying about having an heir.

Chris grinned and said, "you lucky bastard. I wish I had your good fortune three months ago."

He spoke to Darell while running a hand through his hair.

"Well, I certainly hope not." Smiling, Darell said to his beta, "That way I can have the women all to myself."

He threw the pricey green shirt that he had purchased especially for the ceremony on the ground after taking it off.

I'm free, baby is written on a t-shirt that he pulled out of the closet after opening it.

He smiled crookedly as he turned to face his beta after rolling the top over his head.

Chris asked him, "Where the fuck are you going?"

Darell swung up his car keys and replied, "To party, of course."

Good luck, bastard. Darell grinned as the beta muttered, again.

Darell exited the packhouse in his BMW car before anyone could see him.

He was thinking about how much fun he was going to have with whichever lady he picked up as he made the six-hour journey from the packhouse to the city.

When he visited the city, he always went to the same club, which was on a lonely street.

He then noticed the young woman trying to cross the street while completely naked.

To avoid hitting the naked woman, Darell braked his car in time.

As he realized that the car was just a few feet away from colliding with the woman, he shook with fear.

He glanced out his front window and noticed that the naked woman was covered in blood.

He took another look at her as he considered the possibility that the blood on her body may have simply been from a costume she was wearing; after all, he never put it past the citizens of the city to refrain from doing such a thing.

He unlocked his seatbelt to get to the young woman out of concern after realizing that it was blood.
