Clarissa and Isla were sitting across from each other in one of the rooms inside the cozy hideout.

Each one perched properly in their seats with a uniform gentle poise.

The ladies had been chatting for the last few minutes.

And right now, Clarissa was saying something trivial about a local boutique’s recent interior makeover when the sudden vibration of her phone cut sharply through the moment

Both women went quiet instantly.

Clarissa threw her gaze quickly down to the phone; the first blink she gave was one of surprise, and then she cupped a hand over her mouth out of reflex, muffling a sound that could have been amusement or plain dread.

After that, she leaned slightly toward Isla, her voice dropping low, almost like a secret.

“It’s Damien.”

Isla blinked back, her spine subtly straightening.

At the mention of that name, the air between them had changed.

Isla adjusted her sitting position, knees pressed together.

Her gaze held steady on the device.

  • His Enemy, My Husband    Chapter 56: Line Crossed

Isla was still staring down at the lunch pack, but this time, she was seeing something different. It wasn’t anything fancy. There was just something about the warmth of it. Something knowing. She exhaled without sound through her nose before finally reaching for the bag. She slung it over her arm, still not looking at Damien, then finally she murmured without inflection, “Thanks.”Making her way out of the room without another pause or even a glance. After she arrived at her boutique, Isla parked and moved with a light pace toward the entrance, but not before her eyes caught the sight of a vehicle parked not too far off. Its dark gleam, and precise spot!It was Caden….his car.He was already here? Her expression did not tighten in alarm, but there was a certain awareness in her look now as she continued to make her way in.The glass doors of the boutique welcomed her with the gentle chime of a bell. She stepped inside, and just as she expected close to the entrance of her private

  • His Enemy, My Husband    Chapter 55: The Quiet Shift

Damien’s car sped through the quiet roads later that evening. One of his hands was on the wheel, and his eyes still bore the shadow of doubt that he wouldn’t die easily, even after he met Clarissa not too long ago.Even after she had admitted it.Yes, she had finally confessed that truly Isla had actually been with her all the time.Only that things had changed moments before his visit. Clarissa said Isla had gone back. Back to the mansion. And now thinking about it on his way there, Damien could not help but question this update with suspicion. But how could Clarissa possibly know that? How?Damien’s grip on the wheel tightened, a part of him wanted to believe it. I wanted to believe she was indeed home, maybe even in bed right now so that things could return to normal again. But what if Clarissa was lying? What if Isla had run somewhere else entirely? His face was grim. The lines at the corners of his mouth were carved deep. Seconds stretched after seconds until finally, the ta

The Villa Isabella was able to rent was located above the ocean cliffs. The wide windows of the building ushered in daylight which still did very little to brighten the shadow that was inside her head.Isabella was moving around her new room like a restless spirit. Her robe from the previous night was clinging to her frame, one strap having slid down her shoulder, although she barely noticed it. In one of her hands was a half-full glass of wine, her fingers tight around the stem. Her hair fell in disheveled waves, looking wild from the rough sleep she had. Her gaze was pinned to nothing in particular as she dallied from the bedroom to the grand sitting area and then to the open balcony.Yesterday, she had been evicted and sent packing by Damien right after being slapped and humiliated by his wife. And now this? Her teeth clenched. A few minutes ago, she received an update from one of the eyes she still had left amongst Damien's domestic workers. And the words from the lady were s

  • His Enemy, My Husband    Chapter 52: She’s Not With You?

Everything inside this apartment felt calm and quiet, even up to the books arranged on the table. Nothing was out of place. It was small and simple but cozy. The perfect hideout. This was the apartment Clarissa had kept Isla for over 24 hours now after she reached out for a place to hide her head, a peaceful sanctuary away from the chaos that had been her life for the past few days. This morning, Isla was sitting casually on a small cushioned chair, her hands resting lightly on her thighs. Her laptop was open on the coffee table in front of her. The screen glowed softly in the faint light, displaying a Zoom call that was already in progress. On the screen was one of her boutique staff Lana MacPherson, a sharp-eyed young woman with a patronizing voice.“Sir Damien came looking for you, Madam,” Lana was saying, “And Mr. Caden too. He looked quite worried.”Isla gave a small distant nod as she thanked her quietly, keeping her tone calm and undisturbed.“Thank you, Lana.”Her express

  • His Enemy, My Husband    Chapter 51: The Weight of Names

The air and its components became frozen. So frozen that it felt like even the house itself had paused to listen in disgust.Eleanor’s acidic words were impossible to ignore.A small, sharp gasp came from Richard. Like a breath caught halfway through shame.Damien stood frozen without giving out a twitch or even a word. All he did was lock eyes with Eleanor in a steady, cold, unreadable manner. What came next was a low, broken sound from his chest, a Laughter. The tone of it was so hollow, so cracked, so terrifying. It wasn’t the laugh of someone amused. It was the laugh of a man too full of pain to cry. Too angry and vengeful to yield to the weight of sadness. He turned abruptly and began pacing from one side of the grand room to the other. Meanwhile, Richard stood like a man rooted to the floor, his eyes shifting nervously between Damien and his wife.Eleanor gripped her teacup tighter.Damien stopped suddenly, his back still against them, his broad shoulders rising and falling.
