LOGINThelma’s POV
I walked into the shower, as the water dripped down my body, I closed my eyes enjoying the feeling but it didn’t last long as the images came flashing again. I opened my eyes with a gasp, my eyes red from anger, at first, it was easy pretending but knowing I wouldn’t be pretending forever made it harder. My tears mixed with the water, my pain was fresh, nothing could stop the hatred built up in me yet I tried to control it. I turned off the shower, wrapping the towel around my body before walking into my room, I cleaned my body with the towel then dried my hair, I wore the long split red gown. It was split down to my thigh giving me the sexy look. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, calm yet I was void of any emotions. I touched up my face with some make up before spraying my perfume, Just in time for my door to open, I walked over there. It was Yvonne and she was looking so annoyed , I knew what she was annoyed on, as their plans would be starting, she must have been angry Neon would be my mate. “What’s wrong? Your face is sore, someone offended you?” I asked sitting down by the chair not far from the door. She stomped her foot in anger before sitting down beside me folding her arms annoyingly, “Wasn’t it one bastard! He literally ruined my plans.” “Oops! That could have hurt a lot. What happened?” I asked, my voice full of sarcasm. She shrugged standing up, I knew she wouldn’t want to talk about it. “Wasn’t it? And mom and dad refused to do anything about it, they wouldn’t even allow me to do anything.” She said. I nodded, “You just have to be passionate about it enough, look now, they finally agreed to me being Neon’s bethrone.” Her facial expression changed, I knew I had hit a spot in her and that was exactly what I needed for her to help in the ceremony, I smirked secretly. “I need to go now, the ceremoney is starting in an hour time so I need to prepare.” She said turning to leave but I didn’t care. She came to check me out and I knew what to give back to her, give her a chance to destroy the ceremony herself. ***** I walked into the ceremoney hall, all gazed fell on me as I stepped inside, some were complimenting while some were watching with jealousy. But I watched them all with pain, these are all the same people whom abandoned me, who couldn’t speak up for me and save me. For years, I thought they were all my family but turns out each are all devil in clothing, Yvonne wasn’t having it so she came beside me. She must have been jealous because of the compliment whispering, I noticed she was also putting on a red gown but shorter ahd sexier than my own. She’s really going all out just to win me over, that’s funny. “Sister, you are finally here.” Her sweet voice echoing in the hall. I smiled secretly, the faster you push it, the easier it becomes for me to get my revenge. I nodded my head walking towards the chair but she stopped me, she gave me a simple smile, “I just wanted to introduce you to my friends.” Even after giving you so many chances, you still wouldn’t give up and still want to harm me. At first I wanted to decline but then I remembered in the previous life, she said this but then I was almost bullied by her friends which was said to be a mistake. They all thought Yvonne was the one to be bethrone to Neon and I was a stepping stone to their succcess, I nodded and asked to leave. Just when she wanted to say something, dad came on stage. I knew he was about to announce his successor, “Good evening pack members.” He started, his eyes rotating like he was looking for someone until it dropped on me then he smiled. I forced back a smile, my heart dropping, I looked around and my eyes landed on Neon, he waved at me, his smile spread across his face. I retrace his eyes and realized he was staring at Yvonne, how could I have missed all this clues in the previous life, they made their affair vivid enough for everyone to know so how come I had no idea. “We are all gathered tonight for a great reason that’ll make our pack thrive the more and become the best in years to come, as everyone knows, I only have two daughters…” He paused, his eyes dripping with tears as it did in the previous life, I scoffed. “Now they are grown and of age to be engaged, I’m so happy we could all be here, together. Now we can all witness this joyous occasion together.” “I decided to abdicate the alpha responsibility to one of my daughter’s consort. He has to proof himself worthy enough to be with her, for years, I’ve thought of whom but now I have my answer.” “Thelma is the best fit to be our Luna, she’s strong, benevolent, and calm, and I can say the best person to pair with her is Neon…” Now it was my clue to talk, I wouldn’t be a pawn like I was in the previous life and if I have to do it in a way I’ll be hated, “Wait!” I walked towards him, my eyes fixed on his surprised face. “No…” I interrupted him, “I won’t be with Neon, and neither will I become this pack’s Luna.” Gasped erupted from the crowd as soon as I said that, you people were the same reason I was dead, the same people that stared while I struggle endlessly for my life and you think I’ll ever want to be your Luna again. Never! “What are you talking about Thelma.” Yvonne tried to get me back but I snapped removing my hands from hers. I wouldn’t stand and watch you guys take control of my life once again, this time around, I’ll let my destiny be in my hand. I stared at dad, then looked back at mom who was staring at me, as I cleared my throat, while looking at everyone, “My sis is just joking, Thelma, come down from there, you’ll get dad angry.” “I meant what I just said and I have my reasons.” My eyes wandered around the hall before landing on that one person, a crazy thought rummaged through my mind. “Thelma, stop this rubbish now and let’s proceed with the ceremony.” I glared back at Neon for what he just said. Without a second thought, I walked towards the stage, taking the second mic on the floor, I breathed in. What I was about to do would sound very crazy but I’m still going to do it anyways. “I said I have my reason and he is the one, I found my mate.” I announced pointing towards Xavier who was sitting at the edge of the room. All eyes set on him in surprise, let me see how you would deny me now, and how your plan would successfully take place."Someone who's been playing a much longer game than any of you realized," Morrigan said. She stood up slowly, her ancient frame moving with careful deliberation. "Someone who's been waiting in the shadows since before you were born, Xavier. Someone who saw in Thorne a tool that might be useful. And when Thorne proved to be more obstacle than asset, someone who simply... adjusted their plans.""You're speaking in riddles," I said, frustration bleeding into my voice. "I don't have time for…""You don't have time for much longer, no," Morrigan agreed. "Which is why you need to understand what you're facing before you charge into battle. Before you make another decision you'll have to live with."She moved toward the garden entrance, and we followed."Sit with me," she said. "All of you. And I'll tell you about the one who made Thorne look like an amateur."We found a collection of stone benches near the garden's center, arranged around a dying fire. Morrigan moved toward them with the ce
XAVIER'S POVThe infirmary fell silent after Thelma's revelation. Not the comfortable silence of two people drifting toward sleep, but the sharp, electric quiet of a threat hanging unspoken between us.I felt her shift against my chest, her breathing still uneven from crying. The bond thrummed with her exhaustion, but beneath it was something else. A low-level vibration of fear."Tell me again," I said quietly, not moving. "Everything you remember about the name. Don't try to piece it together logically, just describe the sensation. The feeling of the memory."Thelma was quiet for so long I thought she might have fallen asleep. Then: "Cold. The memory itself feels cold, like someone wrapped it in ice to preserve it. Or hide it.""That's not normal compulsion fragmentation," I said, thinking through what I knew about magic. Which, admittedly, wasn't much. "That's deliberate obfuscation.""Someone warded Gina's mind against revealing this name," Thelma said, and I heard the realization
THELMA'S POVThere was something deeply unsettling about Elder Morrigan.I'd looked into minds steeped in conspiracy. I'd read the thoughts of people planning murder and treason and revenge. But Morrigan was something else entirely. Her mind was a fortress, but not a hidden fortress. It was open, transparent, but so carefully organized that you could look right through it and still not understand what you were seeing. It was like being shown a map in a language you could recognize but not read."You're wondering why I'm not afraid of you," Morrigan said as we left the interrogation chamber. Xavier had excused himself to deal with other matters, leaving me alone with the Elder."The thought had crossed my mind," I admitted."Because I'm very old," Morrigan said, "and I've seen too many young wolves with power think that power meant wisdom. Thorne thought his magic made him untouchable. Gina thought her obedience made her invincible. And you…"She paused, studying me with eyes that were
THELMA'S POVI felt Xavier's panic through the bond, felt him struggling against Gina's hold, and something in me broke. Not metaphorically. Literally fractured like glass. The threads of fate that I'd been holding so carefully snapped and rewove themselves. Silver light exploded outward from me, not healing light this time, but something raw and primal and absolutely uncontrolled.Every seer has a moment, I realized. A moment when they stop seeing the future and start making it.This was mine.I grabbed Gina's wrist. Didn't pull. Didn't twist. Just held her, and poured every ounce of power I'd been accumulating directly into her mind. The compulsion magic broke like a chain with a severed link.Xavier gasped, fell to his knees coughing. But he was free.Gina screamed. It was a sound of pure, unfiltered anguish. Her hand convulsed, and the compelled wolves, all fifty of them, suddenly reoriented themselves. But not toward us.Toward her."What did you do?" she choked out, her eyes wi
XAVIER'S POVThe compelled wolves flowed into the arena like a grey tide, their eyes empty and their movements synchronized. Fifty of them. Maybe more pouring in through the breach in the wall.I didn't move. Couldn't move, not yet. Every breath sent fresh agony through my chest. The wound was closed, but barely. Thelma's magic had stopped the bleeding, but it hadn't healed the deeper damage. My right lung still felt half-crushed. My shoulder was a symphony of broken things held together by stubbornness and spite."Xavier," Thelma's hand gripped my arm. "You need to get out of the arena. You're not—""I'm exactly where I need to be," I cut her off, keeping my voice low so only she could hear. "Gina didn't bring fifty wolves here to let me run."It was true. If I fled, she'd hunt me. Hunt us. Better to end this now, on ground I'd chosen, with the pack watching. The first wave of compelled wolves reached the arena floor. They moved with eerie silence, no snarling, no growls. Just the th
THELMA'S POV broke cold and merciless over the ancient trial grounds.I stood at the edge of the ceremonial arena, watching as pack members from across the territory filed into the stone amphitheater. Hundreds of them. Maybe thousands. All here to witness Xavier either triumph or die.The arena itself was a relic from before the Council, before organized pack politics. Just a circular pit of hard-packed earth surrounded by rising tiers of stone seats. Simple. Brutal. Perfect for what was about to happen."You're shaking," Clara said quietly beside me.I looked down at my hands. She was right. "I can see too many endings.""Which one is strongest?""The one where he almost dies." I wrapped my arms around myself. "The one where I have to watch him bleed before I can help."Clara's hand found my shoulder, squeezed. "He's the strongest wolf I've ever seen. And he has you. That's more than Aurelius has."But was it enough?I closed my eyes, reached for the threads again. They were clearer
