For a second after Crowe’s words, the square felt like it had been punched.

*House Lunaris, come home.*

I couldn’t breathe. Not because my lungs had forgotten how, but because every bone in my body was vibrating with that glass-singing frequency, the bracelet burning like it wanted to melt into my skin.

Then Daire’s hand closed firmly around my elbow.

“Now,” he said. “We move now.”

The crowd churned, everyone trying to decide whether to stay and gawk or pretend they hadn’t lingered at a tribunal rally. Calista stepped back from the mic, hair gleaming under the gray light, expression serene.

If she saw us, she didn’t show it.

Kieran angled his body in front of mine, cutting a path. “Side street,” he said. “Same way we came. Keep your head up.”

I wanted to duck, curl, to disappear, but I forced my chin level. Weak didn’t have to mean small.

We pushed through knots of people, Daire’s grip, steady but not bruising. The bracelet’s heat ebbed to a simmer, then to a dull pulse in time with m

The alert text burned on the panel.**EXTERNAL BREACH — TRIBUNAL ENFORCERS ON GROUNDS**His jaw tightened. Mine went cold.Tribunal enforcers—here. Now.“Time’s up,” Kieran said. “You want the relic, you get it now, or you get nothing.”Daire swung toward the inner hall. “Vault first,” he said. “If we run without it, we run blind.”“And if we get trapped?” I asked. He met my gaze. “Then at least we’re trapped with leverage.”It's not exactly comforting. But better than *trapped with nothing*.“Come on,” he added. “They’ll hit the main doors first. We have minutes before they remember Frostveil has a belly as well as a face.”He didn’t take the obvious route.Instead, he ducked into a side corridor half-hidden behind an innocuous panel—one I’d always thought led to linen storage. He pressed his palm against an unmarked section of the wall. There was a faint click, and then the panel swung inward on silent hinges.A narrow passage yawned beyond. Stone. Dark. The air colder, older, less

Her breath on my ear crawled down my spine like ice.*Your blood remembers me. That’s why it burns.*I didn’t give her the satisfaction of a flinch. Not on the outside.Inside, my bracelet seared, my bones sang, my stomach twisted.“Ladies,” Calista said sweetly, stepping back into the center of the room, and smiled back in place. “Shall we let the Alpha get on with his… important work? We wouldn’t want to tire his new wife.”They tittered. They watched. They memorized.Daire’s hand closed around mine again, a silent *enough*.“Vault,” he said, voice clipped. “Now.”Calista inclined her head, all graciousness. “This way,” she said, as if she hadn’t just held my biggest vulnerabilities up to the light and passed them around the room like hors d’oeuvres. We left the Luna circle behind, their whispers trailing us down the corridor like gnats.***I held it together until the door to the parlor clicked shut behind us.The moment we were out of sight of Calista and her curated audience, I

For a heartbeat, no one moved. The Luna circle stared at Daire as if he’d just flipped the table at a formal dinner. “Kneel,” he repeated, eyes on the woman whose fingers had left a faint mark on my arm. “Apologize. Now.” Wolves weren’t used to hearing that tone directed at anyone but enemies and subordinates. Not at high-status Lunas and heirs. The streaked-hair woman’s lips parted, outrage and instinct warring in her expression. The others stiffened, scent turning sharp with offended pride. Calista stepped in. “Daire,” she said, a carefully measured hurt in her voice. “What are you doing? You would humiliate your Luna’s friends for her?” The word *her* dropped like acid. Every gaze swung between us, the unspoken question hanging heavy: *Her? This omega? This contract wife?* Daire didn’t even look at Calista at first. His attention stayed on the circle, on the handprint blooming on my skin. “I’m not humiliating anyone,” he said. “I’m reminding them of something they seem to

Calista didn’t take us straight to the vault. Of course she didn’t. She detoured us through the west wing parlor first—a room I’d only ever seen in glimpses from doorways or cleaning charts. High ceilings. Tall windows. Chairs too delicate to slouch in. Every surface polished within an inch of its life. And full of women. Not just any women. *Ladies.* High-status she-wolves in expensive fabrics, with hair that never met humidity, nails like small, tasteful weapons. They stood in little clusters, murmuring, the air thick with perfume and pack politics. The Luna circle. My stomach did a slow, ugly turn. “Calista,” one of them trilled, stepping forward in a cloud of citrus and money. “You didn’t say we’d have *entertainment.*” Calista smiled, modest and razor-sharp. “I thought it would be… educational,” she said. “For everyone.” Her gaze slid to me, then back to her audience. “Ladies,” she said, voice pitched for the whole room. “You remember Daire.” They did. Their eyes went t

The house smelled the same.Cold stone, polish, floral arrangements expensive enough to hide the faintest trace of wolf beneath them. If you didn’t know better, you could pretend it was just another old estate, not a place where you’d learned to be a shadow. The guards at the gate opened the way. Calista swept in first, like a hostess returning from a cigarette break, her coat already half-unbuttoned, a smile switched on for the marble foyer.Staff materialized as if summoned by her perfume.“Luna Calista,” the steward said, inclining his graying head. “Welcome home.”His gaze slid right past me.A maid curtsied to Calista, eyes bright. “We’ve prepared the west parlor, Luna. Per your request.”She rewarded them with a gracious nod. “Thank you, Meris. It’s so good to see familiar faces again.”Her familiar faces did not include mine.I might as well have been a piece of luggage.I’d walked these halls for years, barefoot and careful, memorizing the times when the staff changed shifts s

The car rolled to a stop just short of the Frostveil gates.Up close, the house looked bigger than it had in my nightmares. Whiter. Colder. The stone gleamed under a thin veil of mist, every line of the architecture designed to scream *power* at anyone who approached. The High Howl Tribunal’s court seal was still nailed to the center of the wrought-iron gates. Black wax, stamped with their crest, hardened into the metal like it had always been there.Officially, this was no longer Daire Vhaloren’s home.My pulse thudded in my ears. The bracelet burned under my sleeve—a halo turned shackle, heat biting down as if reminding me who I used to be. The baby shifted, slow and uneasy, as if they could smell the memories woven into the stone.“Last chance to tell me to turn around,” Daire said quietly.I stared at the gate. At the place I had walked out of with everything I owned in a handful of suitcases and a folder full of clean exit strategies.“I already told you,” I said. “I’m not here t
