ELEANOR’S POV.
“Bring them all out here!” I heard one of the guards roar.
Everywhere was getting loud and noisy. Everyone mutters and says words to themselves, toppling over each other as one tries to outlive the other.
The hefty guards walked in and started to drag everyone out, a long wipe in their hands. A wipe was so long and scary that I felt swallow a lump of saliva that quickly gathered in my mouth.
My heart beat fast.
I was scared. I had no idea what my fate was to look like.
“Pull every single one of them out.” I heard him say again in his hoarse masculine voice. I couldn't see him from where I was. However, I could see the guards losing the chains from the ground to connect them. Their hands and legs were locked together.
My heart beat fast as I watched every slave they released being pushed out of the cell, then walked off by the guards.
Soon it was my turn. My eyes were glued to him as he bent down to do the same to me. A strong smell hit my nose, emanating from his Brown hair. It was like he hadn't had a proper shower in months. Either that, or he rarely washed his hair.
When he was done, he grabbed me by the left arm and dragged me up, causing me to wrench a little. I couldn't dare make a sound because I feared provoking them.
He pushed me to another, who led me out of the cell. We passed through the gate, my eyes almost blinding from the reflection of the bright, shining Sun sitting prettily in the sky. A smile curled up my lips because I was at least glad I could lay my eyes on it again. I had thought I would die in that cell without seeing another Sunlight.
The walk lasted minutes, and we were transported from one place to another. Soon we stopped in front of another big gate and walked through it, the others coming behind me while some walked in front of me.
Everywhere was noisy, so noisy that it almost deafened me. The guards screamed and shouted. I noticed some melting and making swords, making equipment of a different kind.
My heart started to hit my ribcage, begging it to let it escape before it faced a crueler death. Beads of sweat broke across my face as the thoughts of what those sharp objects could do to me ran through my mind.
“Walk!” The guard who held me said and pushed me forward.
I gulped down another lump of saliva and walked forward. My eyes barely left them.
We walked into the big building.
I could see a lot of Wolves dressed in expensive attire, sitting them. Some chew on things, while some focus on nothing in particular.
But was it nothing?
We stopped at the front, close enough to see the others taken before me kneeling with their head bowed. They still had their chains on.
My eyes trailed further and landed on a Wolf sitting on a throne. He looked bigger and scarier. He looked like a giant, so I was sure his presence here would intimidate a lot of Wolves.
“Next one is this Blonde. The young fella looks healthy and is fed healthy. Going for 500 bucks.” I watched a Wolf announce. Hid dressing differently from that of the one who held me. It looked like he was superior to them.
I watched the crowd murmur a little, and then hands started to fly in the air.
“I will take him.” One Wolf said.
“I will take him for 550 bucks.” Another said with a bit of pride in his voice.
“I will pay 600 then.” The first Wolf countered and turned his head around to send a mocking smile to his competitor.
“Sold!” The Wolf sitting on the throne roared, his voice carrying a lot of power and earthquake.
“The Slave Lord has spoken.” The Wolf standing said, and I presumed him to be the Enslaver. I had heard stories of them.
I watched the poor boy being pushed forward and taken by the Wolf, who had a smile on his face.
My fear heightened because now I knew what fate had in store for me. Now that I knew, I doubted that I could handle it.
I was pushed to the front to kneel with the others. My head bowed.
I maintained this position as the whole selling went on. My heart beat more every time I heard “Sold off.”
Never have I felt this scared. Not until now.
Tears dropped down my eyes. My mind goes back to my old life. A life where I didn't have to experience all these hardships. A life where Lucien pampered me and did everything to make me smile. A life where my Sister acted as a sister would do.
A life I used to love.
Before they betrayed me.
I sniffed back the liquid I had, threatening to run down my nostrils.
“Don’t cry, child. Just pray to the moon goddess. You will survive.” I heard a familiar voice whisper, and I saw him staring back at me with a smile.
My newly found friend and cellmate.
It's funny how he could still smile in a time like this.
Maybe he was mad.
I know I doubted the moon goddess, but I didn't let it stop me from whispering a word or two to her, hoping that she would hear and responds.
I was dragged and pushed forward. My fear soared, and my body shook as I awaited what was to be my next fate.
What if I got sold to a Wolf who treated me like a pile of shit? Even worse than I have ever been treated.
“This redhead is going for 600 bucks.” I heard him say. I heard them announce to the crowd. I heard this Wolf determine my fate with a price tag.
I bit my lower lip and muttered more prayers to the moon goddess. I knew she wouldn't respond, but there was no harm in trying.
“I will take her.” I heard a Wolf yell.
I was tempted to raise my head and look at him, so I did. A resounding hit on the head by one of the guards stopped me midway.
Ouch!
It pained. But not more than my heart does right now.
“650!” Another yelled.
“750! She looks like she will be good in bed.” Another said, causing me to bite harder on my lip.
“800! Beat that!” Another said mockingly.
My stomach clenched tightly as I heard the Wolves make a joke out of me. They seemed to be catching a lot of fun at my own expense.
There was a long silence for a while. My heart thumped so loud that I was sure everyone could hear it.
“Is that everyone? Going...” The Slave Master was saying before he was interrupted.
“1000 bucks!” A Wolf yelled aloud, and everyone gasped.
Murmurs could be heard as they each whispered their thoughts to one another.
“Is that the last?” The Slave Master asked.
I could hear the excitement in his voice.
“Sold!” The Slave Lord roared after some minutes, and I felt my breath seize. More tears ran down my cheek.
Up until a week and some days ago, I used to have a house, a lover, and a happy family. Now, I had nothing, nothing but my life, which was no longer mine now. My life was now sold off for 1000 bucks.
I felt dragged up by a guard pulling me forward. I didn't attempt to fight or run. I didn't even have the strength to shed a tiny drop of tears anymore. I didn't even have the strength to survive.
We stopped in front of my new Master, and the guard handed my chain over to him, alongside the chain key, before walking away.
I raised my eyes to look at him, my new Master. His face was emotionless and cold. His gaze was evil, brutal, and empty that I quickly brought my face down.
He got up and held me by my hand's chain.
The last thing I heard before being pulled away was, “Kill him.”
I turned around to see my newly found friend had been pulled away, a smile glued to his face until the end.
It was at that point that I realized I didn't even know his name.
****
I sat still in the car, saying nothing. My head bowed because I was scared of provoking him.
Minutes into the drive away from the wrong place, we said no word to one another. I didn't even know the name of my own Master, and I wasn't bothered to know.
“What's your name?” I heard him say, his voice empty and void. It had this thing in it that I couldn't put my finger on.
“E...El...Eleanor.” I spoke up, stammering a little.
There was a bit of silence before he finally spoke.
“Okay, Eleanor.” He said and paused. “This is the thing. You are Princess Lily from Dark-world Pack, 22 years of age, and the only daughter of Late Alpha and Luna Sparkles. You are an old friend of mine, and we attended the same school. Understood?” He said.
My jaw dropped for a minute as I tried to process all he said, but I could feel his gaze hard on me.
I nodded in response.
“Good!” He exclaimed softly and added. “I need you to be my pretend Luna.” He informed, his voice colder than before.
His words left me in bewilderment.
CRUZ’S POV. I was, sitting in the back of the car with a strange yet beautiful-looking she-wolf directly opposite me. What had pushed me into this was simple, the Kingdom’s desperation to have a Luna. Why did I let their wants and need to get to me?Because...well, I had no idea.Maybe because I was their Alpha.Or maybe I needed closure.I don't know.I heaved out a soft sigh as I tried not to look away from the space I stared ahead. I could feel her hesitation. She didn't want to be here, and that was obvious. I lacked any form of sympathy for her, so I wasn't interested in her story or how she got there. All I cared about was giving my Wolves a Luna. When I heard of the slave trade in the Black Market, I came up with an idea, and I knew I had to give it a shot.So here I was, with a she-wolf I was starting to doubt would fit into the status. Maybe I should have gone for a more classy she-wolf.But no, I wanted someone I could control. About fifteen minutes into the drive, I decid
ELEANOR’S POV. I could hardly believe my sight accuracy the second it landed on this beautiful stranger staring back at me in the mirror. She looked like me but was me. She didn't look anything like the usual me.“I'm sure your husband will like this.” The she-wolf with the Blond hair said, but I responded with nothing as I pinned my lips firmly.I wasn't sure of what to say. Should I call him my Master or my Pretend Alpha? He bought me, after all.“You good?” She said after some seconds, her eyes accessing me as though she was trying to read me like a book.I thought of telling her my predicament, but no thank you. What was she going to do about it? Ask me to run away.I had no one out there waiting for me, and I had nowhere to go.“I’m fine,” I responded and sent her a smile bright enough for her to believe me. She returned the smile.“We should leave now,” I informed them, not wanting her to ask me more questions. She nodded gently, and we walked out of the room.I saw him move
ELEANOR’S POV. I felt this nasty sting up in my nostrils, and it was acrid. Sulfur mixed with smoke. There was a sizzling sound; it smelled like burnt beef, smelt like horror, like fear mixed with the stench of burnt hair and the smell of coagulated blood. I could hear their screams and wails so vividly in my head as they crawled away from the fire that was already burning half of their bodies. The smell was sickening, but my fear made me want to puke more. I could almost feel the taste of their horrors in the back of my mouth.I tried searching for my family amidst my blurry eyes, but I couldn't find them. There was no sight of them amongst the others, which made my heartbeat rate quicken. Were they dead? Maybe slaughtered by the Raiders. By the evil monsters who had invaded our innocent little town to bestow their wrath on it and maybe capture some enslaved Wolves.“Stay here, and don't come out.” My Mother said, bent down to place a gentle kiss on my forehead. She turned to look
CRUZ’S POV. I pick up the fork and bring it close to my mouth only to place it back on the plate. I wasn’t interested in the food, plus I haven’t been eating much ever since the incident—the incident I didn’t want to go back to. I have tried to conceal that part of me from everyone. I lift my eyes off the plate to land on her, her eyes running over her dress. I heard her mutter ‘thank you’ to Servant Rose even though I had explicitly asked her not to speak to anyone without my permission. I had my reason. I was going to reprimand her again, but I choose not to. She shivered a little more and settled on the chair, her eyes glued to the table as though she was scared to look my way as if I was some monster, which I liked. I wanted her to fear me because I needed that leash on her to control her.“We have a meeting in thirty minutes,” I informed her, my eyes now on my plate. “Dish some food for her,” I order no one in particular, and one of the maids stepped forward to carry it out, t
ELEANOR’S POV. A smile curled up my lips, a smile of satisfaction as I stared at my reflection in the big-sized mirror. The dress was perfect, it looked perfect. It was made of Red Satin, an off-the-shoulder mermaid straight dress, with an opening at the back ending just on my waist, and a high thigh split on my left leg. It looked perfect with the golden shoe I had paired it with. I was ready for the meeting, although I had no idea whom I was going to be meeting up with. I still wanted to look my best because I suspected that it had to be his family. For him to want me to meet them, then it must be important for my role. Plus I haven’t seen any Royal since my arrival.I adjusted my Red lipstick, before walking out of the room. My Red hair flowed along with the direction of the wind. A guard was waiting for me at the door by the time I got outside, and I knew immediately that my Pretend Alpha must have put him there, probably to help me to the meeting room.“Good day, Luna.” He gre
CRUZ’S POV. A bead of sweat rolled down my face, and numbers rolled off my tongue inaudibly.“Thirty-Six.” I counted as I continued with my push-up.I still found it hard to push the day’s incident aside. Even after years of his death, my monster of a Father still had this terrible effect on me. He still managed to bring out the other side of me. For a minute I saw his face right on Eleanor’s, his lips parted slightly with a devilish smirk on his face. The one he used to have on every time before he landed his long wipe on my back, its body filled with thorns that would pierce right into my skin and scrape some off.“You need to let how to control your emotions as the future ruler of this kingdom.” He would say every time a drop of tears fell down my cheek and land another wipe on my back till I can take it no more and eventually go silent. My fingers curled into fists in anger. This kingdom and its people had robbed me of my childhood moments all because I had to be a good King for
THIRD PERSON’S POV. Until hours ago, Cruz never knew he would let out this monster side of himself. He never thought he would be standing out here, banging loudly on her door, attempting to kick it down with all the workforce he had gathered.Because up until her, he had never been refused by a she-wolf, talk less a commoner. It took him that long to get here because he had to hit the gym first to relieve his anger, but it didn't work out. Every time he bent down, letting the numbers roll down his tongue, he remembered the servant's words.Who was she to refuse him?She was nothing but his doll. His pet. His minion. She was here to play a character before...He landed another loud bang on the door. His anger boiled the more at the thought that she was in there, ignoring him, probably laughing at him for constituting such a nuisance. He was about to land another bang on the door when his Beta, Martins, showed up.Martins looked curious as he tried to figure out the whole drama.“Wha
CRUZ’S POV. My eyes landed on my wristwatch as I awaited her arrival. I was sitting impatiently in the back of the car. When she arrived minutes later, pulling the door open and stepping in, I almost mistook her for someone else. She looked so different and better. She looked nothing like the commoner I had brought home. She looked believable. She looked like what a Luna should look like. And that was where today’s outings came in. We were on our way to visit the farmers, according to the Elders' wishes. They believed that would convince the people to love me again. But did I give one tiny fuck about their lives? No. Not at all. But I still had to do it. I still had to do everything I could do. All before my inauguration. After that, I wouldn’t need to please anyone.I could feel her avoiding my eyes as she looked away countless times when our eyes met. It was probably still an effect of last night’s outburst. Was I over it yet?Not at all.Even as I looked at her, I felt this crazy
