Sophia's POV

Holy shit.

I just kissed Nikolai Lev. And I liked it.

All I could think of as I made my way up the stairs was how wrong all of this was.

Nikolai was the enemy. Hating him was the only way to survive this marriage. Kissing him and enjoying it was the opposite of that.

"Get it together, Sophia," I whispered, shutting the door behind me.

I scooped Loki out of his carrier immediately, burying my face in his soft fur as he purred against my chest. Easing me out of my angst.

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Eighteen

Sophia's POVYou're safe here. His words echoed in my mind like some sort of cruel joke. In what world was I safe with the very man who had torn my life apart? The same man who threatened my father's life and forced me into a marriage?I wanted to push him away. I wanted to scream in his face and claw at his skin. But my body betrayed me. My hands clung to his shirtless skin instead, holding on to him as I sobbed. The scent of his cologne had me in some sort of hypnosis too; all I could feel around me was his warmth.Minutes had gone by, and we stayed frozen in place. I was in his warm embrace, and he held onto me like he had done it a dozen times before. He didn't say a word again. All he did was hold me. My head lay against his chest as his hand cradled it like a soft anchor. I could hear his heartbeat; it felt calming, unlike mine, which was in utter chaos."Why?" My voice came out all choked and muffled against him. "Why are you telling me this?"His chest rose and fell with a dee

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Seventeen

Sophia's POVHis words hit harder than I thought they would. It was impossible to ignore just how tense the air between us had gotten. Nikolai's voice came out dangerously low, as though he was on the edge. His dark eyes drilled a hole into my skin. There was an intense feeling attached to it that left me feeling unsteady. It didn't help that he was standing so close to me that I could feel the heat from his body all around mine. I refused to back down, even though my pulse screamed at me to flee the scene. "Worse?" I whispered, my voice trembling with a mix of anger and anguish. "How could it possibly get worse, Nikolai? You've taken everything from me. My family, my home, my freedom, any chance of having a normal life. It's all gone, all because you decided to use me as some sort of messed-up chess piece in an absurd game I have nothing to do with. And now you stand here, telling me I can't even see my father? Do you not see how messed up that is?"I had used up all my breath. H

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Sixteen

Sophia's POVI opened my eyes slowly, letting the soft morning light in, and for a second there, I forgot where I was. In a stranger's bed. In the golden caged prison I had been trapped in. I let out an inaudible sigh as my eyes and entire body adjusted to my unfortunate reality. Then the weight of last night hit me like a ton of bricks.I was pretty sure I heard gunshots. My body snapped upright as the sound of gunshots echoed in my head. I turned my head to the side.Nikolai wasn't in bed, and his side of the bed remained untouched. My eyes darted over to the couch across the room. There he was. Sprawled on the couch like some kind of model, his long legs barely fit on the couch, and he had one arm slung over his head.My bare feet touched the cold floor as I silently slid off the bed, making my way across the room. He was shirtless, as usual. My eyes traveled slowly across his body, all the way up to his face. Up close, he looked peaceful. A trace of the man who dragged me out o

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Fifteen

Ch 15Nikolai's POVJack was waiting in the hallway, his demeanor carrying the same sense of urgency as his voice when he came to my door a couple of minutes earlier.“Two men. East fence. Armed.” He gave a quick debrief of the situation.I hated leaving Sophia by herself. I thought about her an unhealthy amount. The way her voice had softened when she told me to be careful. That fucked with my head more than anything Moretti could throw at me tonight. But there was no time for weakness tonight.I pulled my gun out from the holster at the side of my waist. “Are we sure it’s Moretti's men?”“Positive. They tried slipping through the blind spot near the old service road. The boys spotted them before they could get close.”“Take Petrov and three others. Bring them back alive. I need answers.”We moved out of the house with our guards up. Every step calculated, and our guns locked and ready to go. I could hear the low voices of my guards already in position. But somehow, everything in me

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Fourteen

Sophia’s POVSitting through dinner with a room full of potentially dangerous men was one thing, but playing a doting wife to their boss was certainly another.Suffice to say, I’m pretty sure I nailed being the perfect wife. Now here I was, sharing the same air as Nikolai. I dropped the perfect wife act as soon as everyone walked out of the dining room, but somehow, there was a feeling of angst that remained stagnant in the air between us. His body caged mine so close that I could smell his cologne mixed with a light trace of wine. It felt like torture being so close, and my body responded to the space between us, or the lack thereof, in ways my brain couldn’t completely comprehend. I hated how my body remembered the way our lips touched, or the way his fingers made my skin pulse like there were bolts of electricity beneath it.He pulled away the moment he looked down at his phone. Whatever he read had changed his demeanor in an instant. His jaw tightened, and his eyes went cold.

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Thirteen

Nikolai's POVThe night was going according to plan. My men sat around the table, wine flowing, and just the right amount of fear beneath all the socializing. Yet, something felt different, and I knew it before I thought about it.It was because she was sitting right by my side.Sophia. My fake wife looked far too good in that black dress. I had to remind myself that it was all pretend. But not every part of me had gotten the memo. She looked good in that black dress. It hugged her body like it had been made just for her.The neckline plunged so far down that I had caught some of my men staring. Just one warning look from me was enough to make them back off. Then there was the red lipstick. My God. My mind wandered to our kiss. After she left the gym, I felt as though I had lost all sanity.Petra’s gaze stayed heavy on me. I hadn't forgotten how disrespectful she had been to Sophia. She was starting to become a liability.“Enough personal matters,” I turned my attention to the me

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Ten

Sophia's POV“My love,” He said performatively. Clearly putting on a show for his audience of one, Petra. I put on a fake smile, knowing I had to also play along to whatever this was.“Hi, baby…” I said softly, and a flicker of curiosity flashed in his eyes. He could probably tell how rusty I was

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Five

Niko's POVI leaned back, taking all my plans in. Tonight was the night. Except my best friend and right-hand man, Jack, thought it was a dumb idea.“The Rossi girl?” He was standing right across from me. We never did see eye to eye on anything. It was a wonder how we managed to stay best friends a

Sophia's POVSleeping in this bed…in this house, with the enemy was one of the hardest things I had to do.Every time I closed my eyes, all I saw was Nikolai’s face, and all I could hear was his voice haunting my every thought. There was no way in hell I would have his child, but that meant I woul

  • His To Have And To Loathe   Chapter Three

Niko's POVShe stared at me like she was a deer caught in headlights. The poor thing had no idea what she had just gotten herself into.“You can’t be serious.” She sprinted out of her seat. I could hear her breathing. Hard. “First, you point a gun at my father’s head because, according to you, he k
