I threw my bag onto the narrow bed.

I paced the small room, my hands shaking with adrenaline and pure anger. We were so close. We saw the sky. We breathed the free air. And then Juan ripped it away from us just to drag us back into his twisted prison.

Liam sat on the edge of the bed, holding his head in his hands.

"I should have fought him harder," Liam muttered bitterly. "I should have broken his grip."

"You could not beat him, Liam," I said, stopping my pacing to look at my brother. "He is an

  • His regret; the alpha’s rejected maid   Chapter 51

I stared at the dark shadow peeling itself off the brick wall. When Juan stepped into the yellow light of the alley streetlamp, my lungs forgot how to pull in air.He looked entirely wrecked. He was not wearing the perfect, tailored suits he wore in Silver Pine. He wore a simple dark shirt, unbuttoned at the collar, and dark jeans. His dark hair was a messy, wild tangle. The dark circles under his grey eyes were bruised and deep, making him look like a man who had not slept in a year. But the sheer, magnetic power of his presence had not faded. The familiar scent of rain and cedar washed over me, hitting my senses like a physical blow.My wolf threw herself against the ice wall, howling, begging me to run to him.I locked my knees to keep from stepping forward. I forced my face to remain a mask of cold stone."You look well, Cora," Juan whispered. His voice was incredibly rough, cracked with deep emotion. His grey eyes roamed over my face, drinking in the sight of me like a dying man

The tires of my black truck ate the miles of asphalt.I gripped the steering wheel so tight the leather groaned under my hands. The speedometer hovered near ninety. The human cars on the highway blurred past my windows like slow-moving ghosts. For a whole year, my chest had been a hollow, freezing void. The silence in my mind had driven me to the edge of absolute madness. I had ruled Silver Pine with an iron fist, destroying anyone who questioned me, punishing Viktor by locking down the borders and refusing the marriage. I made everyone suffer because I was suffering. But right now, the void was gone. The mate bond was pulling me forward like a thick, unbreakable rope. I could feel the wall she built. It was a giant, solid block of pure ice. She was refusing to let me in. But just feeling the coldness of her soul was enough to tell me she was alive. The tall, dirty buildings of the southern human city finally appeared on the horizon. The air coming through the truck vents changed. The

The coffee pot slipped right out of my hands. It hit the tiled floor behind the diner counter with a sharp, violent crash. Hot black coffee splashed across my cheap sneakers. Shards of thick glass scattered everywhere."Whoa, Cora!" Nora jumped back, wiping a few drops of hot liquid off her apron. "Are you okay? You just dropped that out of nowhere."I stood perfectly still. My fingers were shaking. I stared at the broken glass on the floor, but I did not really see it. My entire focus was turned inward, looking deep into my own chest. For a whole year, the ice wall inside my soul had been totally quiet. The mate bond on the other side was a dull, distant hum. It was easy to ignore. But today, the ice was rattling. The dull hum had vanished. In its place was a sharp, burning spike of pure energy. It felt like a hot blade pressing directly against the frozen barrier. He was no longer searching the empty woods. The direction of his pull was fixed. It was pointed straight at me.And it w

Juan's POV)The pack house was a tomb.It had been exactly one year since she disappeared into the storm. Three hundred and sixty-five days of pure, agonizing silence.I sat in my office. The room was freezing cold. I did not allow the servants to light the fireplace anymore. The dark wood of my desk was covered in maps, reports, and tracking logs.I stared at the wall. My grey eyes were hollow. I had not smiled in a year. The wolf inside me was a dangerous, unstable beast. It paced my mind endlessly, ready to kill anything that stepped too close. The door to my office opened.Edith walked in. She wore a pale grey dress. She looked thin, tired, and deeply miserable. She stopped a few feet away from my desk. She did not dare come closer."My father is leaving today," Edith said, her voice quiet and defeated.I did not look at her. I kept my eyes on the map."He is taking his army back to Redwood," Edith continued, a bitter edge creeping into her tone. "He realizes you are never going t

One Year LaterThe diner bell jingled loudly.I wiped down the wooden counter with a damp rag, keeping my eyes focused on the coffee stains. I was twenty-one years old now. My dark hair was tied back in a tight braid. The pink uniform dress fit me perfectly, showing off the toned muscles in my arms."Hey, sweetheart," a rough voice called out.A tall man in a dirty leather jacket sat down on one of the round stools. He smelled like cheap beer and sweat. He slammed his hand down on the counter, demanding attention."Just coffee, sir?" I asked, looking up at him with a polite, flat smile."Coffee, and maybe your phone number," the man smirked, leaning across the counter. He reached out to touch my arm. Before his dirty fingers could even graze my skin, my hand snapped up.I did not use my full strength. I just used my speed. I grabbed his wrist, pressing my thumb firmly into a specific nerve bundle right below his palm. The man gasped, his eyes going wide with sudden, sharp pain. His kn

The abandoned train yard felt like a second home now.It was midnight. The city was quiet, but the air was still warm and thick with humidity. I stood in the dirt clearing, bouncing lightly on the balls of my feet. I wore a grey tank top and dark shorts. Sweat dripped down the back of my neck."You are dropping your left guard again," Liam warned me, circling me slowly in the dark."I am not dropping it," I argued, keeping my fists raised near my chin. "I am baiting you."Liam laughed softly. "Baiting me? You are getting arrogant, little sister.""Come and find out," I challenged him, a fierce smile touching my lips.Liam lunged forward. His speed was incredible. In the past few weeks, the cheap meat we bought from the corner butcher had finally started fueling our wolves properly. Our healing was faster. Our strength was returning.Liam threw a fast hook toward my jaw.I did not step back. I ducked perfectly under his arm. I used his forward momentum, grabbing his wrist and twisting
