MasukLyra’s POV
I knew I had to leave the pack. Every part of me knew that I couldn’t stay here another day. But where would I go? I had no family outside these walls, no plan, no safe haven. Then I remembered the business card. The one Mr. Jerome had slipped into my hand outside AETHER. I tried to remember where I had kept it but as I opened my car’s glove compartment. The card was still there, I felt relief, it looked as if it had been waiting for me all along. His name. His number. My only way out. I dialed. “Good morning, Mr. Jerome. It’s Lyra,” I said. “Lyra,” his voice came warm. “How are you doing?” “I’m… not so great.” I swallowed. “I need a favor.” “Go ahead,” he replied. “Ask me anything, and I’ll see what I can do.” I hesitated only a second before spitting it out. “I found out Eamon is the reason I can’t conceive. He drugged me.” “What?” Jerome snapped. “That scumbag drugged you and then divorced you? He’s got some guts.” His voice filled with fury. “I will have my revenge on him,” I said quietly, fire rising in my chest. “But I can’t do it while I’m trapped here in his pack. That’s why I’m calling. I was wondering if… if I could join yours.” Jerome let out a short, bitter laugh. “What took you so long? We’ve been waiting for you.” His words made me stop and think. We’ve been waiting? Who was we? Before I could ask, he continued, “Head to the airport tomorrow. My men and I will be there to pick you up.” Then the line went dead. I sat in the car, staring at the silent phone in my hand. Waiting for me? What did he mean? That night, I knew I had to tell Mina. I couldn’t disappear without saying goodbye. I walked to her house. Knocking on the door, I prayed she wouldn’t see through my lie. “Hey, Mina, you home?” The door creaked open, and Mina stood there in her nightshirt, hair tied messily on top of her head. She leaned against the frame, smiling. “Come in. I’ve been waiting for you. So, how did it go at work?” I stepped inside, forcing myself to speak. “Mina… it’s too much.” My voice cracked. “He admitted it to me. He poisoned my drink because he said I wasn’t good enough to bear his child. And he said he never loved me.” I didn’t dare tell her the full truth about the curse. That would only put her in danger. Mina’s eyes widened. “How could he say that straight to your face? How could he even think it? That bastard...” Tears threatened to spill, but I held them back. “Mina, there’s something else you need to know.” Her arms loosened. “What is it, Lyra?” “I’m leaving the pack tomorrow.” The words hung between us like a death sentence. “What?” she gasped, pulling back. “You’re leaving? No, Lyra! Why? You can stay here, I’ll keep you safe. You don’t have to do this!” Her eyes were already filling with tears. “I hate that I have to hurt you like this,” I whispered. “But it’s better than vanishing without a word. Eamon destroyed me, Mina. And I can’t breathe another day knowing he’s walking free. He has to pay.” “Then let me come with you,” she pleaded, holding my hand. “Please. Don’t leave me here alone. You’re the closest thing I have to family.” I shook my head. “No. This path I’m taking it’s dangerous. Like a death sentence. If I take you with me, and something happens… I’ll never forgive myself. I can’t drag you into my complicated life.” Her face looked too sad, but finally she nodded, tears spilling over. “Since you’ve made your choice, there’s nothing I can do.” “Thank you,” I whispered. “For respecting it.” “When do you leave?” she asked softly. “Tomorrow. Tomorrow morning” She bit her lip. “Then let me at least come with you to the airport.” I gave a weak smile. “Alright, Mina.” We spent the rest of the night on her couch, talking about everything old jokes, challenges we’d faced, the happy times that seemed so far away now. Her eyes was clearly sad, but we tried to make the night feel normal. Inside, I felt guilty. Guilty for leaving her. But this was the only way forward. I got my self thinking as I slept. Tomorrow, everything would change. “Lyra, wake up! Wakee wakee!” Mina’s cheerful voice. I sat up groggily, finding her already dressed, the smell of breakfast filling the room. She’d cooked for me our last meal together. Then it was time. I had no luggage, nothing worth taking. Just myself and the clothes on my back. Mina walked beside me as we made our way to the airport. From afaroff, I saw Mr. Jerome’s private jet, gleaming in the morning light. The man himself stepped down the stairs. I looked back at Mina. Tears streamed down her face as she held her hands together, trying to be strong. “I promise I’ll come back,” I told her. “This isn’t the end, Mina. I’ll come back for you.” She shook her head, smiling through her tears. “Just call me when you get there, okay?” “I will.” For a moment, I turned and looked at the world I was leaving behind. Every memory, the joy, the betrayal, the heartbreak. For a split second, I almost wished I could stay. Almost. But I couldn’t. Eamon will pay for what he did. “I will come back,” I whispered to myself. “When it’s all done, I’ll return.” “Lyra!” Jerome’s deep voice. “What a pleasure to see you again.” I straightened, wiping my eyes. “Good day, Mr. Jerome.” He smiled and gestured me toward the jet. I climbed inside. I had never flown before. The sound of the engines, the sloft leather seats, the sheer newness of it all it made me feel like a princess. Once we were seated, he leaned toward me. “There’s a lot I need to show you, Lyra. But before we get there, you need to be careful. Very careful.” My smile faded. “Careful of what?” “Not what,” he corrected. “Who. Be cautious of anyone named Ronan Drake and Silas Drake. But most of all Ronan.” The way the said it made me a little frightened.RONAN (4 years later):I sat behind my desk in the home office, papers spread out in front of me. The afternoon sun came through the big windows. Across from me, Elder Marcus, one of the senior advisors, leaned forward, pointing at the map we were discussing.“...and if we shift the southern patrol route here, we can cover the new border with fewer men,” he was saying.I nodded, about to reply, when the door burst open.Amara ran in like a little storm, four years old, dark curls bouncing, brown eyes sparkling with mischief. She laughed so hard her whole body shook as she raced straight to me.“Daddy! Daddy! Look what I found!” She held up a shiny rock like it was treasure.I couldn’t help it, I smiled big. The meeting was forgotten for a second.Elder Marcus chuckled softly and leaned back in his chair. “Alpha Ronan,” he said warmly, “Amara is all grown up now. Look at her, running the pack already.”Amara climbed onto my lap without asking, still giggling. “The rock is magic, Daddy!
LYRA:I stood in front of the big mirror in my room. The white dress felt soft against my skin. It was long and flowed like water. Tiny silver beads sparkled when I moved.Mira, my little twin sister, climbed on a stool so she could reach my waist. She tied a blue ribbon carefully. Her small fingers worked fast. She giggled. “You look like a fairy queen, Lyra!”Mary, the one who resigned after being my personal guide when I first arrived at the Moonshadow pack, stood behind me. She pinned white flowers into my hair one by one. She smiled big. “You are the prettiest bride today,” she said softly.Madeline from Aldric’s pack brushed the dress to make it smooth. She hummed a happy song while she worked.Mara stood close too. She fixed my veil so it fell just right. Her eyes were wet with happy tears. “After everything we went through,” she whispered, “you deserve this beautiful day.”I looked at all of them in the mirror. My heart felt full. “Thank you,” I said. “All of you. I couldn’t d
RONAN:“Did it work?” Silas asked quietly.I stared at Lyra, waiting for any sign, a breath, a finger moving, anything. But she stayed still. My heart hurt so bad. Tears fell again.I reached slowly to pick up the baby.“Leave her with me, Ronan,” Lyra said softly. Her eyes opened. She smiled weakly. “She’s my baby.”My whole face changed. My eyes went wide. My mouth opened. Then a big, happy smile spread across my face. I laughed through my tears. I couldn’t stop smiling. The whole room felt bright suddenly. Everyone looked up with hope.Silas started crying happy tears. Cole smiled so big his cheeks hurt. Jerome wiped his eyes fast and laughed. Mara stood up, her sobs turning into happy gasps. The other woman clapped her hands softly.Lyra sat up slowly. All the pain in her body was gone, like magic. She felt strong again. She looked at me with those beautiful eyes.I rushed to her. She threw her arms around me. I hugged her tightly. We both cried and laughed at the same time. The b
LYRA:I opened my eyes slowly, seeing myself back in a bright place. No sky, no floor, no walls, no nothing, just light.“Where am I?” I whispered to myself.“You don't recognize it?” I heard from behind me.That voice sounded too familiar, impossible not to remember.“Aldric?” I said, turning back. There Aldric was, standing behind me with a smile on his face.I rushed to hug him. He hugged me too.“I miss you, Aldric…” I said.“I miss you too, Lyra.” Aldric smiled, tears in his eyes.I looked past him and noticed a huge door, about the size of a building, rising out of the white space. My dad walked out, my mom by his side.I ran to them, hugging them tightly. Aldric stood there, smiling.“I thought I would never see you both again,” I cried as I let go slowly.“But then what does this mean?” I asked.“You're not in your body anymore,” Aldric answered. My eyes went wide. “What of Ronan? What about my baby?”“You want to see them?” Aldric asked.“Yes… I’d love to see them.”Aldric no
RONAN:“Just tell me you're crying because the baby is cute. Please don't say anything else,” I cried, my voice breaking.Jerome reached out slowly and took the baby from my arms, holding her like she was made of glass. His hands shook a little as he cradled her close, almost like he was trying to shield her from whatever pain was coming next.“Lyra, please clean up and come out,” I said again, louder, tears running down my face. “We don't have much time.”Silas put a heavy hand on my shoulder. His eyes were red, full of tears he was trying to hold back. “I'm sorry, bro,” he whispered.“Sorry for what, Silas?” I asked, pretending to be confused. My voice cracked. “Sorry that I'm holding my child? What is there to be sorry about?”I pushed myself up to my feet, trying to act like everything was okay. But my legs felt weak. My chest hurt like someone was squeezing my heart. Mara slid down the wall and folded into herself, sobbing quietly into her hands.“Lyra!” I screamed at the top of
RONAN:I spotted the hut from far off through the trees. I shifted back to human form. Cuts and bruises burned across my body, but none of it mattered. I ran faster, bare feet pounding the dirt path, my heart slamming so hard I thought it would burst. As I reached the door, Mara stood there holding something small wrapped in soft cloth. The most beautiful sound in the world hit me, the thin, strong cry of a newborn baby. Fresh tears flooded my eyes instantly. My legs almost gave out.It was my baby. I’m a father. The alpha arrived right behind me, breathing hard. When he saw the tiny bundle in Mara’s arms, a wide, proud smile broke across his face. He said one soft word in their language.“Sulome.”Mara looked at me with gentle eyes and translated. “He said… congratulations.”“Thank you,” I managed to choke out. My voice cracked. I dropped to my knees in the dirt, blood and sweat and tears mixing on my skin. “Can I hold her?”Mara stepped forward carefully and placed the baby in my ar
