Amethyst stared blankly at Lucia, as her words find their way to her overwhelmed brain. She had been like that for a few minutes and was only brought back to her senses when Rinari moaned in pain again.
“Please, we don’t have enough time,” Lucia said, crying. “If we don’t fetch her now, she’ll be lost forever.”
“What do I do?”
Lucia held her hand, took a deep breath, and together, they closed their eyes. A strong magnetic force sucked them both into the realm of the unknown, and when Amethyst opened her eyes, they were floating in a dark endless abyss filled with enormous bubbles lit with blurry images like those in black and white television.
Her chest tightened because of the lack of air because she held her breath the moment they fell, but Lucia squeezed her hand.
“It’s okay. You can breathe,” Lucia said. However, Amethyst furrowed her brows in confusion.
“Wait,
Nicolai, in wolf form, howled a long spine-chilling, arrow-piercing howl under the majestic moon as if he was in pain, while Amethyst couldn’t decipher the reason she was sweating and shaking at the event she witnessed. At first, all she felt was adoration at the wonderful sight she saw moments before Nicolai’s transition from human to wolf. However, when he shape-shifted, a more intense emotion overwhelmed her. EXCITEMENT. Yes, that was the right word to describe why her knees buckled. Her mind retrieved the previous scenes when Nicolai pinned her on the bed and when they were in the greenhouse in his human form; she hugged herself, wondering how it would feel under his fluffiness. “Shit! Why did I even think of that?” Amethyst nagged herself when dirty thoughts invaded her mind, making her feel an indescribable heat from within. When Nicolai in wolf form didn’t stop howling, she stepped out of the bushes, hoping he
Sabrina went home with light-feathered steps as if she was walking in the sunshine despite the sun rolling down the horizon. She was still convincing herself that seeing the blue-eyed boy who was her ultimate love showed up after years of waiting for him. However, she stopped and dropped her shoulders at the thought that they were cousins. The thought seemed to bear weight in her shoulder that it slowed her steps down while drawing a lungful of breaths. She walked into their property while spacing out, not minding the additional garden gnomes in their facade.“Psst!” A tiny voice tried to get her attention, but she kept walking. “Sabrina!” The voice became shrill, like that of someone getting annoyed because of not being noticed. The gnome picked up a red pebble from the stone garden and threw it at Sabrina.“Aw!” Sabrina felt the part of her head that was hit; it was still burning.“Sorry,” th
Red flag flickered in Amethyst’s head, bringing her back to her senses like she had been poured a bucket of iced water. There was no escape route for her to take, and she could no longer hold her feet. She slammed on the rough ground of the alleyway as fear embraced her. The drooling big dog appeared to be unsatisfied with its previous meal and was ready to pounce on the next one, which, unfortunately, might be her. It kept on advancing to where Amethyst was, sending her threat at every step. The predator cast the thing in its mouth aside: Amethyst’s eyes widened, seeing that it was indeed a bone—a human arm! ‘Rex, where are you? Please save me.’ Amethyst sobbed, despondently waiting for the animal to jump on and devour her. Low growls synched with her quivering squeamish heart as she closed her eyes, accepting her stupidity had led her to her demise. ‘Mom, I love you. But I hate the fact that me being a witch is useless in this situation
Gavin watched as Thea and Amethyst prepared the space for their butterfly inside Quin’s greenhouse. He was with Nicolai in the garden, enjoying their afternoon coffee on the gazebo while the girls design their pet’s new home.“Nic, have you slept with her?” Gavin asked without looking at Nicolai, who was sipping his mochaccino.Nicolai spitted an amount of coffee out of his mouth because of the out-of-the-blue question. He threw Gavin a piercing gaze, without answering him.“Come on,” he said, wiping the spat on his pants. “Do you even know how to drink properly? Don’t spill.”“You just asked me a stupid question. How do you think should I react?” he hissed, afraid to be heard even though they were several meters away from the girls who were merrily wiping dirt on their faces as they plant some non-flowery bush. “Of course, I haven’t, and I will never.”Gavin simper
Everyone in the Biology class was talking about how they built a sanctuary for the caterpillars, but two students didn’t mind the commotion at all. Amethyst’s eyes were restless. She kept on glancing at the open sliding door of their classroom, hoping to see Nicolai pass by. These past few days her mind had been occupied by the thoughts of him and their hot and cold relationship, though the real score between them was as vague as the murky waters in the fishpond at the back of their school canteen. Thea, on the other hand, was busy chatting with Gavin, giggling as they exchanged messages. ‘Rei’s neck is like a giraffe's. She’s been checking the door since we arrived.’ Thea sent the message to Gavin. Then her phone pinged, and she gasped at the message she received. ‘Nic is up to something. He bought some flowers and sweets,’ Gavin replied. ‘Do you think he’s going to confess now?’ ‘IDK. Till later.’
After a warm bath, Amethyst stepped out of the bathroom and changed into her pajamas. Rinari had left as soon as she dropped her off at the house, without even entering the gate. Her mind brought Amethyst back to how she got in the hospital for passing out again. But the weird thing was, there was no Nicolai when she opened her eyes, which was the usual scene she had. She furrowed her brows as if doing so could help her fill in the gaps of memories she had before unconsciousness hit her. “I remembered Steffani calling out to me. But why was she so mad?” She slammed her body in bed and stared at the ceiling with lights blinking from normal to a rainbow-colored one. Then it hit the nerve! She remembered seeing two tall men with her: the one who caught her when she dropped, and the one with the red eyes. ‘It’s been a while, little girl.’ Goosebumps crawled all over her body when the latter man’s handsome yet eerie voice e
“Tiffney!” Salazar sped like a lightning bolt towards Sabrina, covering her from his wife. “What the hell was that for?!” Sabrina held her cheek, which was still burning like hell, releasing some icicles from her palm to cool it. “I allowed her to do what she wants, and this is how she repays me?! I only ask her one thing: DO. NOT. TOUCH. AMETHYST!” “Why is she more important to you? I’m your daughter,” Sabrina cried in Salazar’s embrace. “I want her alive because she’s more powerful than you!” Tiffney vanished into thin air, and Salazar was left to console his daughter. He guided her to be seated on the couch. “I’m sorry, honey. Your mother is obsessed with being the most powerful, and Amethyst, being the last heir of the Hiwita clan, is her only hope to achieve her desire.” “Is that the reason you are always away?” “We’re having business with your uncle Braeden.” “It still involves Amethyst and Lefu,
Lefu grabbed his chest when sudden grief struck him. He screamed on top of his lungs when what felt like a dagger wounded him and carved out a portion of his heart, piercing him… leaving an invisible hole there. “Ahh! What’s happening?” He was alone in his room, finishing Amethyst’s portrait, but he couldn’t because he dropped to his knees and was crippled on the floor. His cry sent Braeden dashing to his room. “Hey, son.” Although his face was already white because of having no blood in his veins, he became whiter like the snow as he worried about Lefu. “My heart aches, literally. Amethyst! It must have something to do with her.” Braeden scanned his son’s body. His heart rate dropped and its beat was no longer normal until it stopped and Lefu fainted in his arms. As Braeden visualized Lefu’s body like an x-ray machine, he noticed tinges of green and yellow fluid flowing inside of him. Moments later, a white bat came in through
