Veronica's POV.

The phone beeped twice when I walked into the room. I barely sat on my bed when I checked the notification.

‘Father: I'm sorry if I scared you away, Vee but whatever happens, I don't want you staying with a stripper. Please come home.’

I read the end of the text when another flashed above the bar. Mother sent hers too, ‘Your father told me what happened, when are you coming home?’

I swiped her message to reply but my hand froze mid-type. I was frozen in the moment, with nothing in mind to say.

Quickly, I clicked the phone lock and threw it over to the side of my bed I barely rolled to.

I settled into the room with a tired sigh. My coat slid off me gently, I took the dress I had on me next and then my shoes.

Next was a good shower. I touched the shower head, turning it to just the right temperature.

I stepped into the shower feeling drained, exhausted and with my shoulder slant, but when the water touched my skin, I felt alive again.

Rejuvenated.

Jason’s POV I drove up town. To a friend's place. Alex, the owner of Alexco companies, is an industrial machine maker.Or whatever the hell he was.He asked to meet weeks earlier and I said no. Now, I was dying to go anywhere far from Rhea.Even to the boring friends I had avoided before. The same ones who advised me against my decision to be with my ex-wife’s best friend.I parked in the parking lot of the bar, switched the engine off and got out of my seat. The bar, Sweet Sensation, was the very same one I met Veronica. She was seated with friends having a few drinks at a party when I spotted her.The girl is in a white mini white dress with sparkling gold shoes and blonde hair. Blue eyes that pierced my soul, calling to me, lips that I could taste without being near her.I stared at the sky while I walked to the entrance. The air was chill, the moon hung bright in the sky, and the bar buzzed with lively people having the time of their lives.“Jason!” I sighted Alex from the edge o

Veronica's POV. I woke up to silence. Not the comforting kind — not one of those.I woke up to the kind that released my eyes and ears until I noticed it. The room smelled faintly of an antiseptic and something woody beneath it, like a slap had been rinsed off me too quickly. My eyes fluttered open, slowly and heavily, my lashes sticking together as though sleep had tried to keep me longer than I allowed.I noticed White ceilings, pale walls and something beeping in my ear.‘The hospital.’ I thought, where else could it be?My first instinct was to move, to sit up and to prove that I could do everything without the world tilting sideways. My first attempt was too sudden, I failed, my head swam and my stomach tightened. A hand immediately pressed against my shoulder– firm and grounding with unmistakable confidence.“Easy.”Four's voice.Low and controlled, the same voice he used to give me instructions was now giving me comfort. How ironic.I felt out a breath I hadn't realised I was

Jason Harper. Rhea was downstairs, nagging.“Every single time I think you're about to do something I like, you end up ruining it with something stupid, Jason! I thought you said you liked me, how could you like me if you keep acting this way?! How could you— tell me!”And when I did not respond as fast as she wanted me to, she yelled my name from the sitting room downstairs. Her voice echoed like a thunderous rage-filled hoarse rumble.I pressed my eyes shut tightly, praying for relief of some sort. My mind wandered to Veronica. How sweet and gentle she would have been when I did not do something she wanted. How kind her words were. How soft she stroked my beard when she wanted something done and how she always smiled when I did not do what she said.“Jason. My love..” she always started. “Please, baby, how about the thing I asked you to help me handle? Did you do it?”I’d shake my head and she would still smile at me.“Alright then, please help me handle it next time you're out.”N

Veronica’s POV. “Four!”“I got you. Come.”His hands wrapped gently around me, my weight shifted to him, with a quick sweep, Four lifted me off the floor. The paparazzi crawled closer, their lights flashing to my eyes, zapping my vision. My hand instinctively covered my eyes, Four saw me. “Hey! Take your cameras off her or I swear to God, I'll break that thing.” He roared. The paparazzi, an older man, far fragile than Four, hesitated. Even after the second warning, he leaned in closer with his camera right in my face.“This is your last warning, old man.”And when He didn't listen, Four flung his free hand across the side. The other paparazzi were quicker, leaping back before four could reach them. The older man was not so lucky. When Four’s hand returned, his camera was shattered into pieces, lying wasted on the floor. Air escaped the old man's throat. He fell to his knees quickly. “What the hell did you just do?!”Four ignored him. His free hand supported my back. “That'll teach

Veronica’s POV My stomach, with each passing day, grew like a child too well fed, the doctor said it was a sign of a healthy bump but my irk for an oversized belly didn't leave me.I loved my size from the front view but from the side, I looked like an overly grown baby seal.Ridiculous….Even Four laughed once when I stood in front of him holding my baby bump.“How many months is it now?” he asked.I shrugged casually. “Could be three or four. I'm not so sure.”I lied.It should have been four months and three weeks if I wasn't mistaken. I just did not want to share. Somehow, sharing meant I had to tell Four just how long I had been in his house.“It's wonderful that you're fine.”“Thanks.”“You're welcome.”“Yeah,” I said before I turned away. With the time we spent together, I thought we would at least be nicer to each other.Four was not as expressive as I thought he would be. In fact, he grew colder.By the end of our conversation, he grabbed some water and started down the ha

Veronica's POV. “You have got to be kidding me.”Four’s eyebrows wiggled on the top of his head. He pointed to his biceps and then to my eyes. “You see how rock hard I am?”Rock hard?I wasn't expecting… what the heck he pointed at.I shouldn't have paused either. That was the beginning of my mistake.I should have brushed past him when I needed to and taken the sting with me from before.I took the chance to reach for something when I had the chance to but when Four said ‘Rock hard’, my body betrayed me before my mind could catch up.Heat rushed to my face, of course, my chest tightened. For one reckless sound, I thought– stupidly, foolishly– that maybe I'd been wrong about him. That may be the distance and the whole detachment I was trying to have for him, the careful way he was being with me… maybe there was more.I hated myself for how fast my hope bloomed with me.I hated how I forgot myself so easily with them. I turned back to him slowly, my voice barely steady. “What did you
