Hayden POV
Rylan's last words made me a bit anxious. I was trying to find out what was on his mind or better still get an idea of what he was up to but it was a failure. Hayden is always good at hiding his feelings and that's the major scary reason. I can't believe he just dropped by to see me.
"What did he say?" Skye asked, walking in.
"Nothing," I said, taking my seat.
"Did you get a hint of what was on his head?"
"Nop. You know Hayden is a guru at covering his feelings. I couldn't see through him, Skye." I punched the table in frustration and sighed.
"You seem anxious. What did he say?"
"Let's forget about him. I won't let him get into my head."
"You can't just look past Hayden. You know he's no good guy now. You need…"
"I need to leave now." I stood up.
"Off to where?"
"School, man. My Kathrina is probably waiting to see me."
"It's past 10am…"
"No one will stop me from entering the school building."
"The gatekeeper?"
"I handled him the last time. He is terrified by me. And I know some of my classmates don't care about my absence. They won't even dare to question me if I walk into class by noon."
"You could just stay back and be present for the pack runs."
"Kathrina and I decided to start dating last night. We're probably going to go for our first official date after school…"
"Kathrina is her name," Rayana said as the door opened and she walked in.
"What a lovely name your mate got."
My eyes widened and I flicked a glance at Skye. I growled at Skye but quietened when Rayana tittered.
"You think you could hide it from me for a long period of time, bro?"
"I'm sorry. I had blurted it out unintentionally to her yesterday at the training ground," Skye said, not looking at me.
"Fuck," I muttered with gnashed teeth.
"So, Hayden," Rayana said as she walked up to me and put an arm round my shoulder. "How do you like my new hair look?" I stared at her hair which she had recently dyed red. It was tied in a bun and a lock dropped at both sides which made her look quite scarier with her stern face.
"Do I look nice,Skye?"
"Maybe," Skye said and shrugged.
"Why don't we do a bit of hot training this morning, Skye?" She asked him and winked at me. I know she was up to mischief this morning and I nodded.
"Not interested."
"Whatever," Rayana said and rolled her eyes.
"So, let's go to the dining room. Mom is waiting for us to have breakfast. I made something nice with her this morning." She locked arms with me and pulled me to the dining room.
"Good morning mom," I greeted my mother already seated at the head of the table and kissed her slightly on the cheek before taking my seat by her right side.
"Join us, Skye," my mom said and he nodded and sat next to Rayana.
"Go on,Skye.I didn't ruin the food with salt this time. I assure you, the toast is tasty." Rayana nudeged Skye with her elbow and he took a toast and took a bite.
"Mom, you too didn't tell me that Hayden found his mate. We should have celebrated it," Rayana pulled a grimace. "It's so bad of you guys to keep it from me."
"Just eat quietly," Skye muttered, shaking his head. Rayana growled at him baring her teeth with feigned annoyance and my mother groaned, making her comport herself.
"So, she's a human, hay."
"So?"
"Nothing," she shrugged. "I'm resuming school next Monday." I flicked a stare at her and she grinned, pissing me off.
"Don't worry. I'm not gonna scare your mate. She'll be no fun since she's a human anyways. But, if she gets on my nerves on our first meeting, I can't promise you that I will be cool with her regardless if she's your mate." Rayana stood up.
"Done with breakfast?" My mom asked.
"Yes mom. I'm off to wander around. Catch you later mom. Muah." She blew a kiss at my mom and left.
Rayana isn't bad news most of the time. She's been naughty since she found her wolf at 10 and for the past seven years she's been doing quite much for the pack.
But, she's always up to mischief and she's intolerable.
She hasn't yet found her wolf after clocking 17 and I really hope that her mate will be able to handle her. He shouldn't be feeble or else Rayana will end up turning him to the opposite of her mate, yes, her slave.
"You don't worry much. I'll take full responsibility for Rayana," Skye said.
"You can't enroll in Grace Hood High," I said.
"I already made a big mistake by letting her switch schools after my dad's death."
"You really did. Sooner or later other of the pack members would be sneaking out to lake town."
"It won't be a big problem so far they don't reveal their identity and I'm sure they won't."
"That would be against your father's wish," my mom said.
"I don't think there are any other werewolf schooling in Lake Town. Every pack is trying to stick to the peace treaty signed by the alpha king and other alphas years ago so nothing like what happened then will reoccur but you clearly are not."
"C'mon mom. Leave the past behind. Ever since then no war has broken out between the wolves and humans…"
"Because no one has entered human territory," my mom said and glanded at Skye.
"You're probably having your way because your grandmother is the alpha queen. Stop taking the privilege of that."
"No one else apart from you, Skye, aunt Phoenix and few others know that I go to school in lake town. Aunt also gave permission for wolves to go into towns and explore but shouldn't reveal their identity…"
"What if there's a werewolf hunter in lake town?"
"None has appeared in lake town the past few decades. I don't think any werewolf hunter still lives and no one is planning on trapping or watching out for any werewolves in lake town. No one even thinks we werewolves still exist."
"And your mate?"
"Yes mom."
"Then how will you make her yours if she won't be able to accept the true you?"
"I'll handle that."
"It's quite a bit unfortunate your fated mate is a human."
"Not actually. I'm blessed by the moon goddess with Kathrina. And she's still going to accept me when she gets to know of my true identity," I said and stood up.
"You haven't told her about your true identity because you're actually scared she might reject you and team up with some wolf hunters to hunt you down."
"Mom…"
"Look, Hayden," my mom cut in, arising.
"You better be careful and don't jeopardize the lives of the pack by getting your identity known by humans. We and they can never be on good terms. You've bridged the peace treaty by schooling in lake town and if it comes to the awareness of humans, another war might break out for they think we are a threat. Don't be stupid to think that no human knows fully well of the war that broke out between us and them. I think there are still wolf hunters out there,so…watch out," My mom adviced and left.
"See you later, Skye."
"Take care," Skye said and I nodded then left.
Kathrina POV I had lunch with Hayden during lunch break the next day. It was not really obvious we were actually dating because I had told him we should keep it low for the meantime. "What do you think when you hear the word 'werewolf', Lita?" I asked Lita. It was Monday and we just finished our history class before the bell was rung for lunch break. We were going to take our seats after grabbing our food. "Well," Lita said as we walked up to our favorite table which was empty and took our seats. "I really haven't heard anything about a werewolf before till today. Mr Jake said they're likely to exist, you know." My shoulders slumped and I sighed before looking around in search of Hayden. I haven't seen him since this morning. Lita noticed and asked. "Searching for someone?" I shook my head. "This morning's classes have been so boring. Our timetable should be changed. What did you think, Lita?" "It's quite fine. I really enjoyed the history class this morning." "Because Mr Jak
Rylan POV I had decided to return to Grace Hood High to give Hayden a shocking surprise because I know he probably would have thought that I was never going to come back for him let alone return to school. I jumped out from my Jeep and walked into the building with a smile on my face, so impatient to see Hayden. "Look, Rylan is back!" A girl yelled the moment I walked into the foyer and other girls bursting out from the hallway that led to the cafeteria and jogging down the stairs ran down to the foyer. I know most people would be shocked to see me. I thought about going to the head office where I could possibly find Mrs Pierce, the vice principal who I am sure would gladly welcome me with kisses for she was so fond of me but taking a step forward, I stopped as I felt my wolf stir-up, trying to come out. "What's gotten into you, Red?" I asked in a low tone as I turned, backing the students who were staring at me but he didn't reply. I could feel he was bothered. Maybe he wasn
Kathrina POVI walked down to my class. Mr Tom was already in mathematics class. He darted his gaze from my classmates to me and I glanced at the topic for today's class written on the board. "You know I don't like someone walking in after I've written my topic, Kathrina," he said and I nodded, looking down to the floor."I'm sorry sir," I apologized like an innocent lamb. I lifted my gaze to meet his unlikely stare."Go take your seat," he said and I mouthed a 'thank you' before walking to the middle of the class and taking my seat. I glanced at Lita and she shook her head."You've met Rylan?" Lita asked me during lunch break while we were eating and I nodded. I looked around and she cleared her throat, making me return my gaze to her."Hayden left already," she told me and I sighed. He sometimes leaves school and sneaks in or doesn't even return. Sometimes I wondered if he had a secret business he was taking care of or maybe he was a mafia or a leader of an organization who deals i
Hayden POV The usual morning training of my pack was almost rounding up. Despite returning home after leaving school before the actual time to attend meetings which I had postponed and returning quite late, I still had to wake up by 6am to supervise the training for this morning as always. "You had lots of missed calls from Kathrina yesterday," Skye whispered to me from behind while I was guiding Lily, a daughter of one of my gammas,on how to attack. I held him by the elbow and pulled him along to the edge of the training ground where we could talk. "Really?" He nodded and gave me my phone. Fuck! 50 missed calls! She even called before dawn. I bet she's worried. I did not have the chance to return her calls last night because I had given my phone to Skye so it won't be a distraction for me. "Maybe I should return her calls now…" "Oh yes! That will be great," Rayana's voice cut in and Skye and I darted our gaze to her as she approached. "You're just waking up?" I asked as I gl
Hayden POV Arriving at the school, I was over two hours late, mostly because I had to see the alpha queen and talk about expanding my pack territory, so I wasn't able to see Kathrina before her first class took place and got a hug. All through the morning classes till it was time for lunch break. I was restless and so was my wolf, Aiden. We both wanted to see Kathrina as soon as possible. Immediately the bell for the lunch break was tolled, I jerked up from my seat and glanced at Rylan who darted his gaze to me. He was seated at the right edge of the classroom and while thinking about my mate, I had barely noticed him when I walked into the class this morning. Rylan gave me a questioning gaze for my action and I simply ignored him and walked out of the classroom. What I really want to do now is talk to my mate. And that's the right thing, boy, Aiden said in my mind, concurringly. "Hayden!" Rylan hollered, stopping me from taking a turn down the hallway to head to the staircase
Kathrina POV Honestly,I couldn't digest what Hayden told me. Till the end of school, I was putting on a frown which made every teacher who walked in to cast a strange stare at me. I know if Lita was around she probably would have teased me for my expression and forced me to lighten my mood. Finally, they rang the bell for school closure and i let out a sigh of relief and head out of the classroom after Mr Tong, the English teacher left, ignoring the murmurs of my other classmates who I felt were probably talking about how I stood up for the girl and confronted that dimwit Rylan. Arrgh, just hearing someone mutter his name made me feel sick. I hung my school bag as I made my way to the locker room. Getting there, I walked straight to my locker and unlocked it with my key. As I was closing the locker, I almost jumped, placing a hand on my chest when I saw a girl staring at me. She had curly purple hair, a nose ring which made her look like a badass and dark eye makeup which actually
Kathrina POV"Well, I'll just excuse you guys," Lita's mom broke the awkward silence and left."So how're you feeling now? Better?""Yes. I am," Lita answered with a smile. "So…um, why did you introduced Hayden to my mom as just your friend?" I stared at her quietly and she darted her eyes to Hayden."Did you both broke up now?"Hayden and I glanced at each but didn't say a word."I don't like this silence. Wait. Did you guys had a squabble.""More of a misunderstanding," Hayden said and i could feel he was staring at him."Hm. Well, I was wondering all this while when you love birds are going to have your first lovers quarrel and It turns up today in my absence." Hayden and I darted our eyes to her and she held up her arms."I didn't mean I wanted you guys to have," she paused and sighed. "Okay, fine. My bad.""It wouldn't have happened if Rylan never showed up," Hayden muttered to our hearing and I huffed, rolling my eyes."Not really. You are just trying to…" Hayden's phone rang, s
Rylan POVRed growled inside me hearing Hayden claim Kathrina as his. I clenched my first, trying so hard within me not to throw a punch at Hayden. She's also yours, Red said in my mind.Yes, she is also my mate and I really want to grab her this instance and say it loudly to Hayden, but I can't. My revenge is my top priority. And I'm going to see to that before claiming my mate. I watched as Kathrina headed into the building after Hayden whispered something to her before darting his gaze to me." 'Don't you dare touch her…she's mine' " I mimicked with a husky voice, teasingly and I laughed."I bet you sensed I was kind of troubling your mate so you bumped out, right?" He was quietly staring at me."Oh, yeah. I know. Fret not buddy." I patted his shoulder and leaned forward, I whispered." I won't bite her." I smirked and walked past him."Rylan," Hayden called out to me, stopping me. I whirled to meet his grim expression and I chuckled, sliding my hands into my trouser's pockets as h
