Chapter 8

Hayden POV

Rylan's last words made me a bit anxious. I was trying to find out what was on his mind or better still get an idea of what he was up to but it was a failure. Hayden is always good at hiding his feelings and that's the major scary reason. I can't believe he just dropped by to see me.

"What did he say?" Skye asked, walking in.

"Nothing," I said, taking my seat.

"Did you get a hint of what was on his head?"

"Nop. You know Hayden is a guru at covering his feelings. I couldn't see through him, Skye." I punched the table in frustration and sighed.

"You seem anxious. What did he say?"

"Let's forget about him. I won't let him get into my head."

"You can't just look past Hayden. You know he's no good guy now. You need…"

"I need to leave now." I stood up.

"Off to where?"

"School, man. My Kathrina is probably waiting to see me."

"It's past 10am…"

"No one will stop me from entering the school building."

"The gatekeeper?"

"I handled him the last time. He is terrified by me. And I know some of my classmates don't care about my absence. They won't even dare to question me if I walk into class by noon."

"You could just stay back and be present for the pack runs."

"Kathrina and I decided to start dating last night. We're probably going to go for our first official date after school…"

"Kathrina is her name," Rayana said as the door opened and she walked in.

"What a lovely name your mate got."

My eyes widened and I flicked a glance at Skye. I growled at Skye but quietened when Rayana tittered.

"You think you could hide it from me for a long period of time, bro?"

"I'm sorry. I had blurted it out unintentionally to her yesterday at the training ground," Skye said, not looking at me.

"Fuck," I muttered with gnashed teeth.

"So, Hayden," Rayana said as she walked up to me and put an arm round my shoulder. "How do you like my new hair look?" I stared at her hair which she had recently dyed red. It was tied in a bun and a lock dropped at both sides which made her look quite scarier with her stern face.

"Do I look nice,Skye?"

"Maybe," Skye said and shrugged.

"Why don't we do a bit of hot training this morning, Skye?" She asked him and winked at me. I know she was up to mischief this morning and I nodded.

"Not interested."

"Whatever," Rayana said and rolled her eyes.

"So, let's go to the dining room. Mom is waiting for us to have breakfast. I made something nice with her this morning." She locked arms with me and pulled me to the dining room.

"Good morning mom," I greeted my mother already seated at the head of the table and kissed her slightly on the cheek before taking my seat by her right side.

"Join us, Skye," my mom said and he nodded and sat next to Rayana.

"Go on,Skye.I didn't ruin the food with salt this time. I assure you, the toast is tasty." Rayana nudeged Skye with her elbow and he took a toast and took a bite.

"Mom, you too didn't tell me that Hayden found his mate. We should have celebrated it," Rayana pulled a grimace. "It's so bad of you guys to keep it from me."

"Just eat quietly," Skye muttered, shaking his head. Rayana growled at him baring her teeth with feigned annoyance and my mother groaned, making her comport herself.

"So, she's a human, hay."

"So?"

"Nothing," she shrugged. "I'm resuming school next Monday." I flicked a stare at her and she grinned, pissing me off.

"Don't worry. I'm not gonna scare your mate. She'll be no fun since she's a human anyways. But, if she gets on my nerves on our first meeting, I can't promise you that I will be cool with her regardless if she's your mate." Rayana stood up.

"Done with breakfast?" My mom asked.

"Yes mom. I'm off to wander around. Catch you later mom. Muah." She blew a kiss at my mom and left.

Rayana isn't bad news most of the time. She's been naughty since she found her wolf at 10 and for the past seven years she's been doing quite much for the pack.

But, she's always up to mischief and she's intolerable.

She hasn't yet found her wolf after clocking 17 and I really hope that her mate will be able to handle her. He shouldn't be feeble or else Rayana will end up turning him to the opposite of her mate, yes, her slave.

"You don't worry much. I'll take full responsibility for Rayana," Skye said.

"You can't enroll in Grace Hood High," I said.

"I already made a big mistake by letting her switch schools after my dad's death."

"You really did. Sooner or later other of the pack members would be sneaking out to lake town."

"It won't be a big problem so far they don't reveal their identity and I'm sure they won't."

"That would be against your father's wish," my mom said.

"I don't think there are any other werewolf schooling in Lake Town. Every pack is trying to stick to the peace treaty signed by the alpha king and other alphas years ago so nothing like what happened then will reoccur but you clearly are not."

"C'mon mom. Leave the past behind. Ever since then no war has broken out between the wolves and humans…"

"Because no one has entered human territory," my mom said and glanded at Skye.

"You're probably having your way because your grandmother is the alpha queen. Stop taking the privilege of that."

"No one else apart from you, Skye, aunt Phoenix and few others know that I go to school in lake town. Aunt also gave permission for wolves to go into towns and explore but shouldn't reveal their identity…"

"What if there's a werewolf hunter in lake town?"

"None has appeared in lake town the past few decades. I don't think any werewolf hunter still lives and no one is planning on trapping or watching out for any werewolves in lake town. No one even thinks we werewolves still exist."

"And your mate?"

"Yes mom."

"Then how will you make her yours if she won't be able to accept the true you?"

"I'll handle that."

"It's quite a bit unfortunate your fated mate is a human."

"Not actually. I'm blessed by the moon goddess with Kathrina. And she's still going to accept me when she gets to know of my true identity," I said and stood up.

"You haven't told her about your true identity because you're actually scared she might reject you and team up with some wolf hunters to hunt you down."

"Mom…"

"Look, Hayden," my mom cut in, arising.

"You better be careful and don't jeopardize the lives of the pack by getting your identity known by humans. We and they can never be on good terms. You've bridged the peace treaty by schooling in lake town and if it comes to the awareness of humans, another war might break out for they think we are a threat. Don't be stupid to think that no human knows fully well of the war that broke out between us and them. I think there are still wolf hunters out there,so…watch out," My mom adviced and left.

"See you later, Skye."

"Take care," Skye said and I nodded then left.
