You Saved Me

Angie looked up, and as the Wolf Gang man's body collapsed, she saw Maxime and Rai running toward her.

Rai immediately hugged Angie. "Oh my God, what are you doing Angie? Are you hurt? Did they hurt you?"

Rai's questions were too much, but Angie did not seem to have the energy to answer them. Angie's gaze shifted to Maxime, who was standing near the body of the Wolf Gang man. Maxime's expression did not change at all. As if shooting someone was no problem at all.

Maxime looked at Angie and their eyes met. Neither spoke to the other. Angie had no idea what he was thinking. The look in Maxime's eyes was always mysterious. Ah, everything about this man was always mysterious. Angie just realized that she knew nothing about him.

"Angie, hey!"

Angie blinked. Rai's hands cupped her cheeks. Her best friend's face was worried. Angie felt guilty.

"Are you really not hurt?" asked Rai.

Angie shook her head. "I'm fine."

Rai breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank God. I thought something had happened to you."

"How did you know I was here? I don't remember telling you my plans.”

Rai immediately looked at Maxime while that man looked away.

"He came to the police station and demanded to see me."

Angie also looked at Maxime. The man's prediction was true. Her plan with Arok would be dangerous. The problem was, how did Maxime know? How far was Maxime's connection to the Wolf Gang that he knew the details of what would happen?

"Come on, we don't have much time here."

Maxime pulled Angie's arm. Rai held Maxime's arm, then forcibly removed the man's hand from Angie's.

"Don't you dare touch Angie."

Maxime chuckled in annoyance. "What, are you going to let her go alone? Can't you see she has a sprained foot?"

"I can..."

"And what about this mess? Aren't your underlings coming to clean up these criminals?"

Rai was speechless. What Maxime had said was true. After Maxime had forced him to come to the club tonight, Rai had acted quickly and contacted his squad to come immediately. His prediction was correct. The chaos in this nightclub was no ordinary chaos. Moreover, there were members of the Wolf Gang involved.

The other Wolf Gang men tried to attack Maxime and Rai. Fortunately, both of them were able to fend them off. A few minutes later, the sound of police sirens approached. The rest of the Wolf Gang men panicked and tried to run away. Unfortunately, they were too late. The policemen arrived first and surrounded them.

Angie and Maxime had already gone into hiding on Rai's orders. They both slipped out through another door in the evacuation lane on the side of the nightclub building.

Maxime put his arm around Angie's shoulders and helped her walk. Angie's leg looked so bruised. It was definitely dislocated. There were also some bruises and cuts on Angie's face.

"I told you that night."

Angie was silent. Maxime's tone sounded strange, or maybe she just misheard? Angie winced several times in pain. It was not the first time she was in such a mess. It was also not the first time she almost lost her life because she got involved with dangerous people. Her first encounter with Maxime had been just as dangerous. If Maxime had not offered her a deal back then, she might have been beaten by the man's hands as well.

"How do you know everything?"

Maxime turned his head. "What?"

"About those Wolf Gang men. I only know that you were involved with them, but how do you know so much about the Wolf Gang?"

Maxime did not answer.

Angine stopped his steps. "Answer me!"

"I'm not obliged to answer your question."

Angie was annoyed. Her curiosity was aroused. At that moment she realized again that she knew nothing about Maxime.

"You... who are you, Maxime?"

Maxime was carrying Angie's body. Angie struggled to get away from Maxime. But Angie's efforts were in vain. Maxime's power was much stronger. No matter how hard she tried to wriggle, she would never be able to fight Maxime.

"Let me go! Let me go!" Angie shouted hysterically. The streets in the narrow alley were very quiet at night. Even if someone heard Angie's screams, no one would come to help her. People were too busy doing their own thing.

Maxime took Angie back to his house. He laid her on his bed, then went to the kitchen to get some warm water in a sink and a small towel to compress Angie's sprained leg.

Come to think of it, this was the first time Angie had really set foot in Maxime's house. There was not much furniture. A house in a narrow alley like this should feel crowded and small. But because Maxime did not have much stuff, this house felt spacious.

"What are you doing?"

Maxime said nothing. He crouched down in front of Angie's leg and pressed the bruise with his fingers.

"A-Ah... it hurts, damn it!"

Maxime pressed Angie's leg with the towel and the warm water. The atmosphere between them was suddenly quiet. Angie had so many questions on her mind that she did not know which one to ask first. She was curious to know what Maxime was thinking. She was also curious about how Maxime saw her all the time.

"Is there something you want to tell me?" Maxime asked.

Angie blinked. She realized that she had been looking at Maxime so intently.

"W-What about Arok?"

Maxime raised an eyebrow at the question. "How should I know? You should ask your detective friend. We ran away together, if you forgot."

Ah, that's right. Damn, Angie felt stupid asking that. She had no idea why she was suddenly uncomfortable in Maxime's presence. He was suddenly staring at her, and for some reason Angie felt that Maxime's gaze was too deep to make her feel uncomfortable. Then came the strange question.

"Are you sure you don't want to tell me anything?" Maxime asked.

"Why did you help me?"

Maxime was silent. Another silence enveloped them. Angie waited for Maxime's answer, but she didn't expect to hear it. She was worried. Would Maxime's answer be acceptable to her?

"Don't forget our agreement."

Angie widened her eyes for a moment and then chuckled softly. "Oh... yes, of course I haven't forgotten."

"Our agreement is not over. We need each other for mutual benefit, right?"

Angie nodded. What Maxime said was true. If they were going to help each other, there should be no other reason than that their goals had not been achieved, right?

For a moment, Angie felt stupid for asking the question. She should have known the answer all along.

"Maybe it's time for me to interview you."

Maxime looked up. They stared at each other for a few moments before Maxime chuckled softly.

"Fine, do what you want."

Angie grinned. "So, Maxime, when did you—"
