Chapter 4

Play with the fire

"What are you talking about, sir?" Misty whispered in her lowest voice and blocked the woman in front of Gavin.

"Just ride with it," he replied shortly and pulled her out of his sight.

Now, his eyes dropped at Amara Gabriel who was really lost. She was staring into nothing with her brows crossed. He just found himself smirking as he watched her process that in her head.

"H-How long have we been married?" She asked and forced a tiny smile.

She was uncomfortable and Gavin could see it through her face. To be honest, his reckless decision also surprised him. He should not meddle in the first place with whatever mess Amara was in along with her clan. But the moment he looked at her earlier, with her enticing and dazzling innocent eyes at him, it felt like his mind suddenly flew in the air and made a very reckless decision.

"You two have been married for a y—"

"Almost a year now," Gavin said.

Her brows met even more.

"Why didn't you go near me when I woke up?" She asked in confusion. It seems like she will shower him with so many questions. "I mean, I only saw you at the door." She added with a glimpse of dismay from tiny smile.

Now, Gavin was totally lost for words. As soon as Misty noticed that, she didn't hesitate to save him.

"He was surprised. Sir Gavin was really shocked when the accident happened," Misty made up a story and fake a wide smile at Amara or should we say—Luna.

"What happened to me? How did I become like this?" She asked again and lingered her eyes to Misty and Gavin.

"Plane crash," Gavin answered. This time, it was the truth. It was a plane crash that made her lose her memories as Amara Gabriel. How come that the toughest Gabriel and the greatest swords woman was stabbed by her back without knowing?

"You were about to leave this island to visit the funeral of your parents when it suddenly happened. They sent you back here after finding your body," Gavin explained everything.

Since he already made a huge lie, why not add a little more? She might hate her when she finds out the truth, but as for now, he's doing this all for her safety.

"I see," she muttered and slowly nodded. "So, my parents are dead." A tiny smile painted on her lips.

"You know what, you should eat now and rest. Don't force yourself to remember everything," Misty said so Gabin couldn't make any lies anymore.

"Misty, I need a word." Gavin said coldly as he watched Luna eat for a moment.

"Yes, sir."

They both left the dining room to have a private conversation about everything that he just said.

"Listen, Misty." He said while staring into nothing and with a lot of things running in his head.

"No one should tell her the truth about who she is," he said firmly, clarifying his order to Misty.

"Can I ask a question?"

Gavin nodded.

"Why are you doing all of this?" Misty asked just like what Gavin was expecting.

"I don't think it was a plane crash, I know there's something else about it. We're doing this to protect her until her memories come back," Gavin said as he glanced at her in the dining hall, eating at peace.

"Now, forbid all the people on this island to tell her who she is. Everyone must act like they have known her here for years. Orient them that she is my wife and we have been married for almost a year. We will bring her back when she gets her memories back. But until she doesn't remember anything, she must stay here." He clearly said and made his decision.

"I don't know anything, I have a lot of questions. But as long as I worked for you, my loyalty belongs to you, Mr. Clyborne." Misty swore and bowed her head as her high respect towards Gavin.

"Work for me forever, then." He said and tapped her shoulder before leaving.

"Didn't I tell you not to come back unless you have news about where my fiancé is?" Rio said coldly to his men in front of him, no sleep and have been looking for Amara for the entire day.

"Sir, we've been searching. We also need some sleep because if not, we will not be able to wor—"

"I don't give a fvck!" A punch landed on his face and the man just fell on the ground with the blood beside his lips.

"Stop him," Agatha said frustratingly to Cassandra as they watched Rio pour his anger and frustration to his men.

"He needs a rest," Agatha uttered and shook her head.

"Rio, stop!" Cassandra exclaimed and blocked his men from him.

"Go and rest," she said and they all took that chance to leave out of his sight.

"You can't just pour your anger into them. I understand your pain, but they are also humans, Rio." Cassandra scolded him and that was when he began to pull himself back to his senses. He was chasing his breath, walking slowly, cooling himself down.

"We need to find her," he said firmly. "I will find her no matter what." He added and marched out of there, leaving all of them behind.

"Sir Gavin," one of his men called him as soon as he came out of his house on the island.

"Any news?" He asked.

"A big one," he replied.

"Spill it," he said and waited.

"The plane crashed, it was not an accident."

"What happened?" He asked toughly.

"There was a pilot who was found, he survived. He told us that they made sure that everything on the airplane was fine. And when they had already left for the flight, one of them found out that there was something wrong. That's when they found a bomb," the man explained everything that happened.

Gavin smirked unbelievably.

All this time, he was right. The plane crash was not an accident—it was planned.
