I hated clubs. The appeal that they had when I was younger was now lost amidst the stench of sex, alcohol and sweaty bodies. It was too hot in here, too stuffy, and all I wanted was to get back to the pack and finish off whatever paperwork I hadn’t gotten around to doing when my Beta, Zach, had insisted that I join him to celebrate his birthday.

We were also on ‘white flag’ territory which agitated me even further. While all species were meant to keep peace here, no headstrong male could help themselves if the situation suited. Didn’t matter whether we were pack wolves, rogues, vampires or humans, there was always bound to be an alcohol and drug fuelled dispute. Usually over a girl or money.

I had spent the last hour or so unmoving from my position on the black leather couch in our booth, Hibiki on the rocks in hand. We were on an upper level which meant nobody could really come and disturb me, and I had a birds eye view of the club. Most of the guys from my pack had already made their way on to the dance floor, finding some girl to grind on. I grumbled and swirled the amber liquid in my glass, planning my escape as I saw Zach become increasingly distracted with a busty human.

“I can see in your eyes that your want to leave,” Leo, my Gamma, mumbled, seemingly amused. “I’m bored,” I shrugged, downing the rest of my drink. He looked at me and chuckled, standing up. “Let’s go then. I don’t think Claire would be very happy if I’m home any later anyway. He probably won’t even noticed anyway,” he said, nodding his head in Zach’s direction. I stood up and started to make a beeline for the stairs, now that Zach was sucking off the girls face, it was now or never. The last thing I wanted was to put up with a whining Beta tomorrow just because “his best friends missed his party.”

I made my way towards to exit, avoiding the sweaty bodies as much as I could, making sure to check that my pack members were all present as I went by them. The club got cooler as I got closer to the door and I sighed. Leo opened the door before me, and I went to follow before I felt this urge to stop and turn. I shook my head and continued into the night air but felt it again. “Give me a sec,” I grumbled to Leo and took a step back into the club. My gut was never wrong.

I made my way back in, facing the crowd one more time. I don’t know what kind of magic came over the club, but it was as if the crowd had parted to reveal one small she wolf. Dressed all in black, she was dancing by herself, swaying her hips from side to side without a care in the world. I couldn’t tear my eyes away from her. Not because of the way she was dressed, or the way she was moving. But it was her eyes. Piercing brown eyes that were flitting around observing her surroundings. As if they were taking in every crevice and corner in the club. Her lips were slightly parted, as though she was mumbling to herself.

She continued to dance and I continued to stare. She was ignoring every advance towards her, continuing her assessment of the venue. And then she caught my gaze. Copper brown pools so deep that I was lost in them. I was drowning in her gaze and she wasn’t letting me out. I felt warmth fill my body, as if I never wanted to stop swimming in them, but then as if I had blinked, she disappeared.

I shook my head, looking back at the dancefloor, noticing that the space she once was, was now full of people dancing. I sniffed the air to see if I could get a read on her scent, but nothing stood out to me. I growled in annoyance, storming out of the club to Leo, waiting in the car. “All good?” He asked as I got in. “Yeah,” I grunted, thinking about the eyes that captivated me.
