Chapter 2: Kidnapped

A memory of my mother passed through my mind, her words repeating. We'll meet again- I spun out of bed with a blanket over my chest, my breathing was heavy and my chest was rapidly moving up and down. I glanced around, the room was completely dark but I almost immediately noticed that this wasn't my room.

She's his last hope, I remember everything now. I was kidnapped by a lunatic blonde women. I felt a soft material rubbing against my skin, I had on a black nightgown which I was not wearing when I was thrown in the back of a van.

My foot slowly reached for the wooden floor, I instantly got the shivers from the coldness. I took many steps towards the closest window, I pecked out the huge window. It was daytime, I tried looking for any clue to where I was at but all I saw was trees and flowers.

My ears perked at the sound of the door opening, I turned around just in time to face my kidnapper. Her blonde hair was swept in a high bun, and her clothes looked completely different than her attire last night. I noticed that she was holding my medical bag which I left at home for emergencies behind my couch.

"You entered my home." I growled.

"Eff off, won't yah." She said as she rolled her blue eyes, she tossed my bag on the bed.

"You know I have clients today that need saving, instead you want to be selfish." I pointed out, today I had two heart transplants that I needed to do and instead of being at the hospital I'm being held against my will.

"Save my brother and then you can go back to playing doctor."

There was no point in arguing with her so I instead gave up, I simply nodded in agreement. 'Playing doctor' was offensive, I spent my whole life training to do what I do and not once did I get help for it.

She tossed my stethoscope towards me and I caught it in the palm of my hand. She cocked her eyebrow up at me, impressed on my catching skills. I picked up my bag and followed quickly behind her, I kept my head low and tried not to look around, the less I know the more likely I am to be release.

"There's a few rules, don't make direct eye contact with him, don't ask him about his scar, don't speak if you're not spoken too." She spoke emphasizing every word.

Are you kidding me? He wants my help yet I can't even ask him questions about his health.

We entered a room, the smell of cigars filled my nose. The room was basically hot boxed, there was so much smoke in the room that the blonde girl had to crack open a window. I waved my hand in front of my face trying not to get secondhand smoke, I settled my eyes on the office. It was dark and had a lifeless atmosphere but filled with paintings, they were sad paintings but they still had some color to them.

"I told you to stop smoking." She spoke. I wasn't sure who she was talking to till the chair in front of the desk spun around.

"I'm dying anyways." His accent was thicker than the girl, his voice was flat and shown no emotion just like his cold hazel eyes.

His blonde hair was shining under the bright sunlight, skin was pale and needed sunlight desperately. I wanted to run my fingers through his blonde curls but I held back that urge. I shifted my eyes to the ground, I remembered perfectly what she just had told me about not making eye contact.

"This is Dr. Amanda, she's going to be your doctor from now on." She said.

"I thought you had said her list was filled." His voice made me want to run and hide, something just didn't sit right in my stomach about him.

"I made arrangements."

"Kidnapping is an arrangement for you?" I caught myself saying, her head snapped around to face mine.

My eyes met his, he stared blankly in to mine. He looked me up and down slowly, his head tilted slowly.

"Vanessa, is this true?" His voice was directed towards the blonde but to my understanding her name is Vanessa.

"I did what any sane sister would do." Vanessa answered him.

I bit my lip trying to hold back my sassy comment. His eyes were on me the whole time, they didn't flaunt away.

"Now do your job and I swear to God if you can't save him, it'll cost you your life?" She growled at me, this was clearly not a threat but a promise. I gulped at her words, she exited the office slamming the door behind her.

I stood there on my two left feet unsure on how to approach this patient, he was definitely intimidating. I felt naked under his heavy eyes, my fingers tighten around my bag. I pictured an older women and I magically became okay with walking towards him, I sat my bag on top of his desk.

"Take your shirt off." I told him, while grabbing a pair of blue gloves out of my bag.

I grabbed my stethoscope from around my neck, I turned back around to face him. His shirt was completely off leaving him with just his Celtic cross necklace dangling from around his neck. He had a tattoo on his side, it was like a crescent of some sort. I wanted to run my tongue across his six pack but I shook my head coming back to reality.

I noticed the sliver band wrapped around his ring finger, he's married. I gently placed my stethoscope on the diaphragm on the left of his chest, I listened carefully. A slow beat was sounded but it was hardly anything, I tried moving it to his back. It was a bit louder but still very hollow, he stared straight at the wall in front of us.

"Damaged heart, I know." He whispered sarcastically.

I pulled off the ear tip and wrapped it back around my neck, I didn't say anything. He was definitely right, he had a horrible heart. I had to examine his chest, for some reason my hands were shaking. I bit my tongue and had my hands roam his chest, his chest was unexpectedly warm compared to my icy cold hands.

I held my breath while my hands softly trailed up his torso, this wasn't part of the checkup but in all honesty I don't know what I was doing. My hand felt something within his skin, I glanced down at it to see a scar. It was huge and covering his torso, my fingers traced it softly.

He grabbed ahold of my wrist, locking his fingers around my wrist. He yanked my arm forcing me to flush against his bare chest. My nose pecked his, my eyes were almost about to burst apart.

"My heart isn't there, my darling." He grinded his teeth together, his warm breath tickled my cheeks.

My lips parted as my nightgown dipped in front, showing off my undergarments. His eyes slowly glanced down looking inside my gown, his eyes darkened with an unknown feeling.

"Sorry, I was just-just feeling for"

"Don't do it again." He whispered roughly, my heart was beating so fast against my chest.

I nodded quietly, his eyes simply stared into mine. His face was only inches away from mine, his lips were plump and moist. He tilted his head ever so lightly, my mouth became dry. He released my wrist, I gently rubbed it trying to ease my pain. I took many steps away from him to put distance between us, and he opened his drawer to pull out a fat cigar.

Was he nuts?

"You can't smoke, it'll weaken your heart more." I commented.

He glanced up at me, he slowly took the cigar out of his mouth killing the flame on his ash tray. He actually listened to me, the flame went out slowly against the tray.

The door opened, Vanessa walked in and caught us staring at each other. I ripped my eyes off of him and turned to face her, her eyes were lit with curiosity.

"So?" She asked. His heart is weak but his beat is strong, well strong enough for me to work on." I told her.

"When can we transplant the heart?"

"It's more difficult than that, I need to do training, I need to observe him and the list for a heart is longer than ever." I removed the gloves from my hand and tossed them in the trash bin.

"How about this, kick off everyone from the list and place my brother on top." She smiled sweetly at me, it was clearly a forced smile.

"I can't do that, some of these patients are children that have been waiting a very long time for a heart." I crossed my arms over my chest as I shook my head to the side.

How could she even ask of such a thing, these children were on their death bed and she wanted me to bury them, no way?

"Do you think I give a fuck about those children? He's my brother"

"Enough." His voice bloomed from behind me, he carefully put his shirt back on. He pointed his finger at his sister, she gulped.

"I warned you about this, I told you to give up. I will not take something from a child especially this."

I watched intently, she rolled her eyes angrily.

"We need you here, alive and well. I need you here." Vanessa's voice softened, she grabbed his hands bringing them to her lips. "Please." She begged.

"I said enough, Vanessa. Don't make me repeat myself ever again." He told her, her eyes shifted away from his to mine.

He pushed her out of the way and angrily walked out of his office, she stood there still stunned by his reaction. I cleared my throat pulling her out of a deep state of mind, she marched over to me gripping my forearm.

"You can observe him and train his heart but you will put him on the top of your list." She growled lowly.

"He just said not to." I snapped back. "Because if you don't."

She reached inside her pocket pulling out a gun, she placed it under my chin. My body shivered in fear and my eyes fluttered rapidly.

"I'll fucking kill you." She said.

I gulped, this bitch was crazy. A part of me was happy that she was forcing me to stay, this man intrigued me by just a simple sentence, a simple action.

Why doesn't he want to live? Is the question that is currently flooding my mind?

"If I'm going to stay here I need all my equipment’s and my clothes." I told her with my chin held high, I was trying my best not to show fear.

"Done." Vanessa said.

"One more thing, I want my cat to live here with me."
