I was seated on the sofa. My gaze was blank, heart still pounding in my throat.

Emilia and Ronan had joined us in that uncompleted building.

I didn't know how they moved me, but I knew after we arrived they had taken Killain to his room, and for the past few hours, they had yet to show up.

"Hey." I heard Ronan call, but I wasn't looking at him yet, my fingers were clenched together. My guilt is winning over me. It was my fault—I was the bad luck; whoever knew me or associated themselves with me would either end up dying or becoming miserable.

I swallowed hard, fighting against my tears that I had shed countless times when Killian went unconscious.

"What's up with you? I thought you hated the boss too." Ronan said.

Was he here to torment me?

He had better learned to stay away from me, otherwise he might be the next person in that situation.

"He is doing fine now," Ronan informed me and I quickly looked up at him.

I didn't care how teary-eyed I was or how he might torment me with how I

"Let me drive..." I got in the way before Ronan could enter the car."You're still a minor." He said.I scoffed. "Joke's on you, I'm twenty!""Remind me again you look seventeen." Ronan walked past me and slid into the driver's seat.Did he just insult me? I turned to him, but he had already shut the car door.I promised to be kind and respectful towards Mr. Vampire but not him. Who the hell did he think he was?I slid into the driver's passenger seat, glancing at Ronan. "You know you are starting to make me go back to disliking you.""I have seen a lot of it... Vampires are hated, so I don't care.""Yeah, not as hated as demons.""That explains it." He chimed in.I swear I need to speak with Mr. Vampire to just allow me to drive myself to school. He brought the car's engine to life and sped out of the compound.Sometimes I do wonder where the hell this place was located. It didn't look like the normal city I used to see—and there was no way it was located outside of the state."I hea

"Come in," I said, my gaze fixated on the door. The door creaked open and I watched Reid walk into my office with a mug of coffee."I asked Ronan to bring that." I lied. I had asked to meet Ronan to let Reid bring that to me instead."He asked me to bring it for you because he had something to do..." Reid stopped on his track with a confused look. "Should I take it back? And ask him to bring it?""What?" I raised an eyebrow. Would he really do that? "It's fine..." I whispered.Reid nodded a little as he got closer, placing the coffee before me on the desk."How are you feeling now?" He asked.I took the mug, bringing it closer to my lips, and I took a sip from it before casting a look at him.He has always been inquiring about how I was doing from Emilia and Ronan who wouldn't hesitate to ask me that—when have they ever bothered about my business? But then Reid had put them up to the task, since for the past three days we really haven't met with each other, and now he was asking by hi

The Ferryman was seated across from me. Emilia and Ronan stood behind him, their gaze fixed on me.It had been more than three days since the incident with Maximus and I had almost lost all my powers.I had passed out instructions for the incident not to be known by anyone, but the Ferryman had been alerted. He was the one with the chart of our existence after all."Should I begin? You've been ignoring my presence ever since I arrived," Ferryman Carlos said."I'm busy," I replied glancing at Emilia. "Or don't we have a lot to do?""Yeah. We do." Lia whispered, though it was just another lie to keep him away, just like the other days.I knew what he was about to say and I didn't want to hear it."I'm here already and can't leave just like that." He mumbled."Then go straight to the point," I said fixing my gaze back at him."You haven't started with your soul catch? It's taking so long... You are also aware that the human advocate, Reid hasn't brought you any souls yet, which means he

I snapped my eyes open, groaning at the pounding headache in my skull."Shi, what happened?"I squint my eyes at my surroundings, trying to process where I was, only to see that it was still the familiar compound I had walked into with Mr. Vampire. And who the fuck was that? A second vampire?I didn't need to be told before knowing that he was an enemy just by taking me away without Killian being aware.I rose to my feet, still feeling my head spinning. That motherfucker was so fast, he had dropped me with force, and I remember hitting my head on the goddamn wall.My phone rang, and I pulled it out of my pocket.. It was an unknown caller, but it looked like the number Killian had dialed on my phone. Had he left me behind?I clicked on the green icon. "Wh—ere are you?""Reid!" Emilia's voice rang out from the other side of the phone. "Where are you! Is Killian okay?" She inquired, her voice laced with worry. How is Killian's phone with her?I groaned, scanning my surroundings again. "H

The sudden gust of wind slammed into me, nearly knocking me off my feet. But I held my ground, bracing for the next attack—when I snapped my gaze toward it, and reality froze immediately."Show yourself," I said, my voice firm."You caught up quicker than I expected." I felt the corrupt atmosphere of a rogue, then a smoky, dark wind curled through the air, before solidifying into Maximus’s form.He was dressed in a black silk coat. His hair was rough and long, falling on both sides of his shoulders, my attention fixed on his white and pale face.It had been decades since I’d last seen him—back when he was still a high-tier demon, not this corrupted husk."I almost got fooled," I replied, clenching my fist."But you didn't. Looked like some of your members caught up, you are still as sharp as always." Maximus remarked."You know it is part of my job to get rid of rogues like you. I bet you're already getting too comfortable with having to rule as a king of a rogue." I'm sarcastic this
