Lena's POV.

I needed a slap, a hard slap that would catch me off guard. A pinch, a bruise, anything to wake me from the dream I thought I was trapped in.

“Are you kidding?” I muttered.

“Look around you, does this place look like I'd be lying when I got important things to do.

I looked around the corner and clutched my hands together. She was right and I was confused even further.

“Can I get a minute alone?” I said.

“Of course, I just came to check up on you per Alpha's orders… and also to tell you that you should be ready in a few minutes,”

“Huh, why?” I asked curling a brow up. “You'd be restocking your wardrobe. The man in charge of that will be with you shortly.

“Wait, wait! Hold on,” I blinked profusely. This was happening too fast. First, was the treatment and nursing, then the posh room and now a possible shopping spree. I hadn't been this lucky since a decade ago.

“What's the problem?” She asked, placing her hand on her hips.

“I don't need to… it's not necessary I get a…”

“Goodness,” she huffed, rolling her eyes and brushing her hair backwards in one swoop. “Not to be a bore, ma'am, but I have other things to do. Like I said, I'm not the one calling the shots. If you are too kind to reject the Alpha's offer, then I suggest you sneak out in the middle of the night, coz he hates disobedience,”

If I didn't know better, I'd say I was boring her, stressing the living daylight out of her. I pulled back and clasped my hands on my stomach.

“Alright,” I whispered, barely audible.

She walked past me again, headed straight to the wardrobe at the far end of the room. She opened the wardrobe, the empty clothes hangers making a clattering sound.

“Phew! Lucky you,” she brought a sunset yellow gown with a thin strapless sleeve. “Not sure it's your perfect size but you are gonna have to manage it,”

She handed it to me and stepped out of the room. Without a thought, I changed my dress and moved towards the mirror by the wardrobe to stare at my reflection.

The dress was gorgeous, a perfect compliment to my jet black hair and blue eyes. A floral pattern laced the breast plates to my stomach.

Staring at my reflection, I could only think of one thing, my mother. The way she'd brush my hair and sing a little lullaby for me. Everything was perfect until her illness, then everything changed. Elaine stepped into the picture and ruined the little memory I had of her.

A gentle knock echoed in the room, causing me to jerk back to reality.

“Who's there?” I said with a soft voice, rushing towards the door to take a peep.

A man stood outside the door, hands at his side with a straight look. His brown wavy hair curled down to his nape and his shoulders pumped up.

I opened the door with a click and flashed my hands at him. “Hey,”

“Follow me,” he said, voice cold and stiff. He turned away to leave, causing me to softly call for his attention but he ignored me.

Who was he? How sure was their Alpha that I was willing to stay in his manor? I raced after the man, breathing hard as soon as I caught up with him. We walked down the hall as some of the men and women who worked there gaped at me and whispered amongst themselves.

“She's the one,”

“That's the homeless girl our Alpha rescued.”

“What's she doing here? Isn't she supposed to be on her way?”

“Look at that face, it looks like she's here to stay… who wouldn't? This is basically a mining den in her eyes,”

The criticism only got worse and louder until I walked out of the door, my stomach rumbling for no reason. We got into the car and I sat at the back seat while a driver started the engine.

I had no idea where we were going, who the man that led me outside was. We drove in silence but I kept glancing at them, struggling to keep my words to myself.

Soon, we got to a huge mall and he asked me to step out. I did in a blink of an eye and continued following him.

We stopped at a shop filled with luxury clothes and he gestured his hands forward.

I exchanged glances between the boutique and the man. “What's going on? What should I do?”

“Pick a damn cloth, what else are you supposed to do?” He gruff, letting out a frustrated sigh.

“I… I… can't,” I stammered.

“what the hell, you should have said something sooner before we got here then. Why waste my time!” He snapped, his vein bulging on his skin.

“I tried to tell you… and ask you but you wouldn't let me.”

“Great,” he scoffed, looking around and tucking his hands in his pocket. “Let me tell you something, woman,”

He locked eyes with me, but they were darting blades and seeping with animosity. “I'm only here because the Alpha asked me to and I can't defy his orders. When he says he wants you looking good in his house, you obey without hesitation.”

“So get your ass in there and make my time worth it,” his voice rose higher as much as he tried to keep his cool.

I flinched and studied his look. The veins on his neck were subtle and he kept tapping his feet.

I felt prompted to move by his threatening look and mysterious anger. Just before I could step away to make a choice, he muttered, low, stiff and full of spite.

“Enjoy your damn time now, coz you ain't gonna last with your pretense of an attitude. They all reveal who they are sooner or later.,”

I froze, hands hung in the air, my back against him.

What did he mean?

Lena's POV. “Please… please… I didn't know I was… I passed out. I'm sorry,” my breath wheezed out in a desperate rush. I dropped to my knees, bowing my head to the floor. “Please, I never meant to offend you, I'm just a helpless girl. I got kicked out of my home… and I got kidnapped… I” my voice broke down in tears as I tried to plead my case to him. He looked pissed, and to find out I was treated by an enemy I had not encountered in my lifetime. Life was bent on showing me that my case could only get worse every day. I sniffled aloud, my tears trickling on the floor. I became vulnerable as flashes of my experience came ramming through my head. Flashes of how I was cheated on, bullied and thrown out of my home, and just when I thought I had hit the lowest, I was kidnapped and forced to give my body for my freedom. “I'm a dirty soul, a hopeless fool,” I thought to myself, but I wanted to keep living. Dominic was to blame for my pain, for everything. He gave me a false

Lena's POV. “Hello, ma'am,” the doctor waved his left hand, and felt my pulse with his right hand. “How many fingers am I holding up?” “Can I get a name? Can you speak?” He continued, not even giving me a chance to think or respond. He suddenly stopped and pointed a little fluorescent light in my eyes. I squinted and groaned inaudibly from lying stiff for far too long. “Four, My name is Lena, and I think I can… talk,” I replied in a second, gulping as the man behind him moved closer and fixed his gaze on me. The doctor threw a signal at him and he flashed his eyes with a questioning look. He scanned me from my head to toe until I broke contact with his striking gaze. Who wouldn't? I had no explanation why my heart throbbed from his mere presence. “Make sure she is alright,” the man said to the doctor, turning to leave after a long pause. The doctor nodded and got right back into checking my vitals. My gaze remained fixed on the door as I wondered who the man was and what his i

  • LENA    Chapter 4

Lena's POV For a long time, I had been thinking I was weak-willed, with no drive to survive or live on to the next sunrise, but my two instances with death convinced me otherwise. I thought after the masked rogue left me for death, I would slowly wheeze myself to the light, maybe watch myself float up, or feel my body rot. I managed to stand on my feet, my bones crackling and my legs shaking. My guts felt like they were being crushed by my body mass, and my legs, specifically my thighs, felt like they had been drilled through with a razor-sharp rock. My face bled, but I managed to crawl out of the warehouse, the blood on my nose trickling down and forming a trail of dots behind me. I staggered to the door, feeling a chronic pain pounding in my chest. The man must have squeezed my breasts too tightly and my skin was burning from the pain I felt all over. As I managed to press my weight on the door, it opened, and I figured out I was right all along; I was in the middle of a cornf

Lena's POV. “You are nothing but a clown I raised. You will die worthless and nobody will think you ever existed, not me, not even Dominic,” Elaine fumed at me with a knife in her hand. I pulled back breathing rapidly. She launched at me, screaming furiously, and I ran in any direction, my heart throbbed and my hands trembled. She was a few inches from thrusting the weapon at me when I tripped on my feet and fell to the ground. The ground split into a hole and swallowed me. I screamed for help but I was suddenly trapped in deep water, drowning in its darkness, and the waves drifted me from the light. Just as I was about to lose my life, I jolted up gasping for breath. It was a dream, a pretty realistic one that kept me heaving for minutes. I looked around as my heart pounded against my chest. I was in a dark warehouse, definitely sure it was in the middle of a cornfield, void of humans. I quickly crawled to the walls, the chain on my ankle rattling. A small group of men was playi

  • LENA    Chapter 2

Lena's POV. My life had always been controlled every day. Elaine and her daughters starved me, threw insults at me, and constantly reminded me of how less of a human I was. She was furious, gritting her teeth as she charged at me. “Answer me!” She snapped, smacking my ears with a hard slap that made them ring a low tune. “How dare you touch her? Have you gone mad!” She thundered.“They… they started it,” I sniffled, pointing at her daughters. They scoffed and rolled their eyes filled with disgust. “That's a lie, Mom, she got jealous of Tracy” Brianna mouthed, boxing herself behind her sister as she fixed her skirt. “She got jealous that the Alpha rejected her. He dumped her ass and that's why she's mad.” “Yes, mum,” Tracy joined in, glaring at me. “And she said she'll kill me, she literally threatened to end my life, Mom,” Mrs Elaine gasped, covering her mouth in shock. Her daughters were lying straight out their teeth, and she festered it. She knew I would never say that, but s
