"This war has to come to an end, Alpha Zavier!" My mate roared before the council.
The Dragonites had relaunched another attack, and this time, one thousand warriors were killed from the Umerk clan, their houses burned down to flames, their survivors taken hostage, and children turned into slaves.
Everyone roared in unison, demanding that my father, the Alpha king, make a decision that would change our lives for good.
"Those cellous beasts are raiding our homes, killing our people and coverting our lands. We cannot take it anymore, Alpha," Aaron fumed, igniting more uproar.
My father sat on his throne, his elbow lazily resting on the armchair, his eyes void of interest. Ever since my mother died from one of the dragonite's attacks, he lost the purpose of living.
Even now that he was before the council, there was no telling that he wanted to leave.
"Alpha, the dragon king's diplomat has arrived," One of the elders announced.
Seconds later, A troop of dragonites, huge with scale-like skin, eyes fiery as gold, strode in, their upper bodies barely covered with the spiky armor they wore across their chests and shoulders.
Their presence darkened the meeting corner with dread, the atmosphere intensified with contempt and desire to draw blood.
But then, their coming was for peace, and no one in their right mind dared to unsheathe their sword or shift into their wolf form. The once noisy hall was now as dead as a graveyard.
My younger sister, Zenita, who was seated beside me, grabbed my hand, her body trembling with fear from the sight of the dragonites.
I held her hand tight, glaring at the monsters that burned down our kingdom, raining chaos upon it.
"Greetings, Alpha Zavier. We have come on behalf of our king. As agreed, we are here to take the bride you promised to our king in exchange for the Goldville," One of the Dragonites declared, causing everyone to mumble amongst themselves.
A bride? Goldville?
How come I never knew of it? I looked at my father, expecting a silent explanation from him. We had a way of communicating with our eyes, aside from mind linking.
Only the Alpha clan possessed this ability to speak through the eyes.
My father avoided my gaze and continued with the Dragonite.
“A bride shall be sent down to your king two weeks from now," my father responded.
Two weeks?! He was going to send someone's daughter off to a land filled with monsters to marry the dragon king?!
“It was agreed that we take the bride with us as we leave," the Dragonite said, his voice darkened with threat as his other companions poised to attack.
“Our Alpha has decided upon two weeks. You beasts cannot go against that!" Aaron growled, inciting another wave of animosity.
The deafening silence filled with dread became suffocating. One wrong move and the hall would turn into a bloodbath.
I needed to get my sister and me out of there before the brooding fire escalated.
"Take her. Zenita, step forward." My father's voice echoed through the hall, breaking the ice with an unexpected command. My heart dropped into my stomach as shock engulfed my senses.
Zenita fell on her knee, breaking down instantly from my father's declaration.
“Father," I called out instinctively, holding on to my sister with every strength I had.
So this was why he summoned us, to sacrifice one of his daughters to satisfy his greed!
I narrowed my eyes at him, disgusted by his cowardly behavior.
"Please, Sister, don't let them take me," Zenita cried, her voice hinged with desperation to be saved. Her cry tore my heart into shreds. Ever since our mother died, I have been the one taking care of her. My father never for once looked at us or ever cared to know if we were alive. To him, we had died along with our mother.
He directed one of the pack's guards to drag Zenita over to the dragonites, despite all her cries and protests. My chest constricted with pain as I watched them take her away, vulnerability shaming me for being weak.
If my sister were to marry the dragon king, she would die the very moment she stepped into their rumoured blazing kingdom. But if I go in place of her, I might be able to survive or...die.
Knowing how gentle she was, frail like a harmless feather, I took a step forward. My fists clenched to my sides as I battled myself for what I was about to do.
'You don't have to do this. She is not worthy of being saved,’ Azura, my wolf, spoke up after ghosting me throughout the night.
'Shut up, Azura. Remain silent as you have been!' I whispered coldly.
Once I was at the center of the hall, everyone's eyes were drawn to me, especially Aaron's gaze. His eyes were full of questions, his face contoured with confusion.
"Take me instead," I blurted out, shocking everyone. This was stupid of me, but then, I was killing two birds with one stone.
I glanced at my mate with a glare as last night's episode flooded into my mind:
“Aaron, when are you going to reject my sister? You are taking longer than expected. Don't you love me anymore?”
“Of course I do. Zemora is a clever woman. I need to take things carefully, or else I will lose my chase as the next Alpha.” Zenita giggled as Aaron kissed her on top of my bed, continuing their lovemaking.
The image made me feel sick.
My sweet little sister was not so innocent. However, I had a goal in mind, a plan my father and I had bargained on:
‘Bring the heart of the Dragon King, and you shall become Queen.’
"What do you think you are doing?" Aaron grumbled through gritted teeth.
"Saving your lover from the hands of dragons," I mumbled with a snicker in my voice.
"I am certain the dragon king will want a virgin for a bride," I said, watching my sister's face turn red with embarrassment.
Striding over to her, I leaned closer to her ear and whispered, "Stabbing me at the back was your greatest mistake, little sister. I will be back." I planted a kiss on her cheek once I was done.
With that done, I followed the dragonites out with the quest to kill my beloved husband-to-be, the dragon king.
~Zemora ~Blood for bloodBefore his first moon. The phrase kept on ringing through my head even after several hours. It slithered through my ears while I tried, and failed, to sleep—slipping, sliding, and coiling through every corner of my brain.Blood for blood? What the hell did that even mean? How was I supposed to get Vladimir’s blood before his first moon? And how was I even sure she had been telling the truth?“Aargh,” I groaned, burying deeper into the mattress.Nothing was making sense anymore. When I had first drawn out my plan, I never imagined it would be this tiring—this life-threatening.I let out a shaky sigh, ignoring the heated weight of Vladimir’s gaze burning into my back as I tried to shut everything out. The nagging awareness of being watched prickled against my skin, raising goosebumps. Every time I closed my eyes, the first thing I saw was the piercing stare of the woman they had captured spying at the east wing. I could still see it—the way secrets swirled in h
ZAMORA'S POVI heard the click sound, and I knew the door had been shut, and at that moment, it sounded like a jail cell door slamming. The door clicked shut, and that sound felt... final, like a jail cell door slamming.I didn't dare move, I just stared into space, doing my best to prevent a panic attack. Still, even on the inside, I could feel my wolf was restless and about to go crazy, like an animal that was now trapped and had no way out, just simply walking back and forth. The room felt suffocating, filled with dark memory of Vladimir’s intense stare, and the unnerving chill when Lysandra touched my wrist.I just couldn't get out the chant of; Blood for blood, out of my head. I decided to head out to the window, and as I looked through and stared at the courtyard. I saw the guards on their group patrols, they walked uniformly, without missing a step, and the sound of their boots marching somehow calmed my raging thoughts. From up here, they looked like chess pieces, moved by som
ZAMORA'S POVThe air was cold and felt a bit stale, and the passage was narrow. It all felt like no one had come in here in years. My fingers grazed against the stones that felt so rough. I didn't dwell on it and kept on moving forward. The sounds of my own footsteps were silenced by the darkness around me.“That's it, keep walking,” the voice whispered ahead of me. “Do not speak unless I tell you to do so,” it continued. Those words alone sent shivers down my spine. I wanted to ask for answers, to know who this woman was, and why she brought me to this place. But something in her tone told me she wouldn't think twice to disappear if I dare disobeyed. I had to force down my curiosity. The corridor sloped downward, each step taking me deeper and deeper into the heart of the palace. My wolf didn't like what laid ahead and thus began stirring inside of me, it was restless warning me that I was entering where I wasn't meant to be.Finally a dim light appeared ahead, a light, a silvery glo
ZAMORA’S POVFor a second, I couldn’t move. The image from my nightmare, his hand on my throat, the dagger slicing into my stomach, still burned in my mind. And there he was, sitting in the dark like a shadow given form, eyes still glowing faintly in that crimson color. He looked more like a handsome and harmless devil. My voice caught in my throat before I managed to speak.“I-I think so,” I whispered, though the tremor in my words betrayed the lie.His gaze didn’t shift. “You screamed like someone was killing you, or tried to kill you. Did you have a nightmare?” he said flatly, his tone holding no softness. “And with the way you're acting, I ask you, was it me?”The question sliced through me. He truly was the devil. He saw right through everything.“I..” My mouth went dry. “It was just a dream.”“Was it me?” he asked again, but this time, his voice was low, dangerous.I swallowed, gripping the blanket tighter. “Yes.”He leaned forward in the chair, resting his forearms on his knees
ZAMORA'S POV I stood frozen, watching the fight play out. Vladimir moved like he had been doing this his whole life; fast, fierce, and without hesitation. And truthfully, he had.He grabbed each rogue and tore them apart like they were nothing. It was brutal but also strange how thrilling it was to watch.Still, I couldn’t help but feel pure fear. I had never seen anyone so cold, so heartless. And even though I have heard countless tales of how terrifying and beastly he can be, this was the first time I had ever seen it with my own eyes. Then, out of nowhere, a chilling thought entered my mind:What if one day, Vladimir saw me as useless? As someone he didn’t need anymore? It would mean nothing for him to kill me, just like he did to them.I shivered again, my body tense. I couldn’t stop myself from gulping, trying to calm the fear that was slowly building inside me.My eyes flickered incessantly as I watched everything unfold. Minutes later, there was no rogue in sight anymore. Vlad
ZAMORA'S POV The feeling was surreal, and initially, I couldn't hold back my excitement. The help I needed had shown itself at the right time.I exhaled, my lips curled together. “I was kidnapped by someone,” I spluttered, my gaze still darting around. My voice was barely above a whisper as well for fear that I'd be heard by the rogues.“Where are you now?” He asked again, his voice wrapped with the urgency of it.“I have no idea. I'm currently hiding from some rogues hunting ferociously for me.“Alright. Try to keep calm and make sure they don't find you. I'll make sure to find you as quickly as I can,” he assured and I found myself nodding. His voice was warm, soothing too. It managed to calm my throbbing nerves.I parted my lips to speak again but it was too late. The mind link had disconnected. My lips pouted as I sulked a bit.I was left alone, and in silence. I couldn't afford to make noise lest I be found by the rogues who wouldn't stop searching for me.I could still hear the
