“Rain! You’re going to be late!” Emma Miller called from downstairs.
Rain was standing in front of her full body length mirror in her bedroom, realizing that today was going to her first day at The Academy to become a guardian. She was given a black and red uniform with combat boots after she was accepted into the Guardianship program at the Shadow Academy. When she put on her uniform, she felt proud and determined to become one of the Shadow Pack’s best warriors. She knew it would require structure and dedication, both qualities that Rain developed as a child. One thing she was proud of about herself was that she always was quick to learn new tasks. She stared at herself in her mirror and knew that this was the day her life would change. She wasn’t sure if things would change for the best, but she had high hopes that her life would finally improve. Rain’s long blonde hair was pulled back into a ponytail. It was uncommon for her to wear makeup, her clear and flawless skin rarely needing it. She was petite with curves in all the right places, and she wasn’t short nor too tall. She’d always been called beautiful throughout her life, but she never viewed herself that way. Rain saw herself as below average and she lacked confidence when it came to building meaningful relationships with the people around her. Most members of her pack made her feel inadequate because she was an orphan. She was tormented her entire life for being adopted m, and other wolves in her pack often told her that would never become a honorable guardian. Yes, she was strong and always at the top of her class in school, but no one accepted her because everyone believed she wasn’t born as a Shadow pack wolf. No one knew where she came from, only that she was left at the Miller residence shortly after her birth. Emma Miller, timber if the most honorable guardians in the Shadow pack, treated her nothing less than a daughter, but everyone else in town treated Rain poorly. She was often called names such as an outcast, a mutt, or even a rogue. As much as Rain tried to ignore the insults, she always felt as if no one would truly care for her or understand her completely. Rain had been waiting her entire life to begin her guardianship training. She was now 18, so it was her pack’s customs to begin training based on her family’s wolf class. There were 3 types of classes of Shadow Pack wolves, The Subordinates, The Guardians, and the Elites. The Subordinates were rank-less wolves, often living ordinary human lives with ordinary jobs. They provided most of the resources for the pack, but they were too weak to fight and not high enough ranked to become an Elite wolf. Then there were The Guardians, the pack’s sworn warriors. They protected the pack, held pack secrets, and were the most skilled warriors of the pack. The Guardians were the most loyal and trustworthy wolves in the Shadow pack. Lastly, there were the Elite wolves. They upheld pack law and their words were always required to be obeyed. The 3 ranks of the Elite wolves were the Alpha, the Beta, and the Gamma wolves. They were the strongest wolves of the Shadow Pack, and no wolf would dare disobey an Elite wolf in fear of their lives. Their children were not ranked, but anyone born to an Elite wolf would always be considered Elite. Rain always thought that the most attractive wolves were in this class of wolves. They all were so beautiful, elegant, and they were always wealthy. They had elegance in the way they dressed and everything seemed to always to be given to them. They also only socialize with other Elite members, so Rain always caught herself daydreaming about how these type of wolves lived their lives. To be given everything was a true luxury. “Rain! Do you not hear me talking to you?!” Emma screamed up the stairs. Rain shook the thought from her head and let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding. “Yes! I’m coming mom! Just finishing my hair!” Rain lied. She sighed, not understanding why she just lied to her mother. As a very powerful wolf, she knew her mother could smell her lie. Truth was, Rain was terrified of starting her new life. She didn’t want to disappoint her mother. Why was she so afraid? Honestly, she was tired of always being rejected in their pack. She also knew that Shadow Academy would hold the strongest competition. Rain loved a good challenge, but she wasn’t sure if she’d make the cut. If she was going to get through this training, she couldn’t be afraid and she definitely couldn’t show her peers her fears. Rain took a deep breath, grabbed her backpack and headed out her bedroom. She hurried down the stairs, her mother looking aggravated at her tardiness. Emma Miller’s face softened and she looked at Rain in concern. She always seemed to know how Rain was feeling. “You deserve this just as much as anyone else Rain. Remember that. Understood?” Emma said with a serious look on her face. “Yeah, I understand. I’m ready,” Rain told her confidently and Emma smiled. As Emma drove Rain to Shadow Academy, Rain just anticipated her first day. This was it. There was no going back now.Tony hated hospitals with a passion. Being in the building reminded him constantly of how he failed to protect his mate and child. The rage he felt was endless, especially because it was his own father that had caused him to lose what he loved most. What had he done to deserve this fate? Why was he allowed to live instead of Rain and Christian? His father had broken several of his bones to prevent him from saving his family, but Tony desire was to die alongside them. The agony that he felt when he felt Rain’s life slip away was unbearable. It made him feel as if his life was meaningless. Even in an unconscious state, he felt every ounce of Rain being murdered. It was bad enough that he witnessed his son’s throat being violently torn out by his own father. And he had just sworn to the love of his life that he would always protect their son. It was early in the morning when Tony had awaken from his coma. It took a few days for his body to recover enough to wake him from his injuries.
Rain couldn’t be happier in her life. After leaving Shadow Academy, Emma took them to a secluded cabin miles away deep within an isolated forest. She knew that this was the same cabin location from the vision her unborn child shared with her. Months had passed and Rain had given birth to a handsome baby boy. She named him Christian, just as his name was always destined to be. A year had passed since they fled the academy, and Christian was now 3 months old. Giving birth had been quite the experience for Rain. She had such a complicated birthing experience that she almost lost her life. In the end, both her and her baby pulled through just fine. She spent most days cuddling her infant, knowing that her time with him was limited. He was handsome like Tony, having his father’s incredible gray eyes. Unlike Tony’s brownish hair, Christian had golden blonde hair like Rain. He was indeed a very powerful and special child. Not only did he share his visions with them often, Christian never b
Rain stared at Beta James. This man was her biological father, and he confirmed the vision given to her by her unborn child. She felt a sudden warmth within her, wondering if it was her baby causing her to feel that way or because she finally knew about her past. “Why are you telling me this now?”Rain asked Beta James. He studied her face as if he was in deep thought. She couldn’t tell if she saw fear or anticipation from his facial expressions. “What did Christian show you?” He asked her. Rain wasn’t surprised that he knew that she had gotten a vision from her unborn child or that he knew his name. “Christian?” Tony said in confusion. “Rain’s mother saw both of your futures, including your son’s future. He will be unlike anyone in this pack,” Beta James explained. There was a long pause, Rain watching Tony as he came to the realization that he was going to have a son. “He showed me the day you took me to live with Emma,” Rain said truthfully. “That was the last day I saw
The sunlight from Tony’s bedroom window woke Rain up the next morning. She had never felt as rested as she did in that moment. It was so early that no one in the dorms were awake. Rain quickly sat up, realizing she fell asleep in the male dorm area. According to the rules, she could be locked up in a dungeon or beaten for breaking this sacred rule. “Relax, you won’t be punished. I will never let anything happen to you,” Tony spoke and Rain looked up to see Tony staring at her. They smiled to one another, Tony sitting up and kissing her softly on her lips. Rain relaxed, all her fears evaporating whenever he touched her. “I still should get back. Make sure you win today,” she told him and smiled. “If you are there, then I will make sure I keep my title,” he told her. Rain dressed and snuck out of his room. She quickly walked to the female dorms when she ran into Alpha Leo. Despite falling for his son, Rain had a strong feeling that Alpha would never approve of them being togethe
Rain cried until she passed out from exhaustion. She fell into a deep sleep on one of the lounge chairs. When she opened her eyes, Tony was sitting on the ground beside her. He must have been there for a while because he was fast asleep. She slowly sat up and he opened his eyes, sitting up to look at her. “Why are you here?” She asked sadly, exhaustion in her voice. “I’m sorry Rain,” he apologized. “You don’t owe me anything.” She said emotionless. “It doesn’t change that I hurt you.” He told her sympathetically. Their eyes locked, but Rain forced herself to look away from him. She stood up and fixed her clothes. “Just stay away from me. It’ll make it easier for the both of us,” she told him. “You can’t hurt people I sleep with because you’re angry with me,” he told her. “I’ll do whatever the fuck I please. Who’s going to stop me? You?” Rain said coldly and she could see fear in his eyes. “I only fucked around with Mya because I wanted to forget you. I wasn’t thinking
For the rest of the week, Rain stayed in her dorm crying. Kylie stayed by her side after Rain told her what happened in the library. Kylie tried to cheer her up, but there was nothing she could say that would make Rain feel as if she hadn’t been rejected by her mate. The night before the first day of training, Rain woke up in the middle of the night screaming in pain. Tony was being intimate with someone and her wolf lost her fucking shit. Rain’s wolf felt feelings of rage, pain, and envy simultaneously. Her mate was with another woman and her wolf was grieving by his actions. Why was he doing this to her? He knew it would hurt her. Kylie laid in bed with Rain, her scent soothing her just enough to lessen her pain. They fell asleep together, Rain crying herself to sleep. Rain woke up the next morning pissed off. She knew it was her wolf making her feel that way. She felt as if she were in a daze as she dressed in her uniform and readied herself for training. After she dressed, sh
