Chapter 10: Rain’s Surprise

The sunlight from Tony’s bedroom window woke Rain upon Tony’s bed the morning of his challenge. She had never felt as rested as she did in that moment. It was so early that no one in the dorms were awake. Rain quickly sat up, realizing she fell asleep in the male dorm area. According to the rules, she could be locked up in a dungeon or beaten for breaking this sacred rule.

“Relax, you won’t be punished. I will never let anything happen to you,” Tony spoke and Rain looked up to see Tony staring at her. They smiled to one another, Tony sitting up and kissing her softly on her lips. Rain relaxed, all her fears evaporating whenever he touched her.

“I still should get back. Make sure you win today,” she told him and smiled.

“If you are there, then I will make sure I keep my title,” he told her. Rain dressed and snuck out of his room. She quickly walked to the female dorms when she ran into Alpha Leo. Despite falling for his son, Rain had a strong feeling that Alpha would never approve of them being together. For some reason, he seemed to not like Rain at all. She didn’t understand what she did to make him be so hostile towards her.

“Good morning Rain. “He said and smiled.

“Good morning Alpha Leo.” She responded quietly, bowing her head to him.

“You may be mate bonded to my son, but I will never allow you to be his Luna. Your kind only leads to destruction and I will not let you destroy my son. Remember that,” he said cruelly and walked off.

Just as she expected, Alpha Leo clearly disliked Rain. However, she couldn’t understand why she wasn’t good enough for his son. She was already undefeated and top of her classes. And what did he mean by saying that her kind leads to destruction? Rain sighed and went back to her dorm, where Kylie was waiting for her. She was confused and needed to be comforted by her best friend.

“It’s about time you showed up.”Kylie said and Rain laughed. She sat with her friend, telling her everything that happened in the last 24 hours. Kylie expressed her happiness towards Rain and told her to forget about Alpha Leo because his opinion was irrelevant. Before she knew it, it was time to meet for Tony’s challenge.

Rain wore fitted black pants, a short black crop top, and her long blonde hair down for a change. As she walked into the arena with Kylie, eyes looked towards her, including Alpha Leo. Rain stared at him angrily, Beta James looking between the two of them. Beta James was kind, and he always took a liking towards Rain. Most men did physically, but she didn’t get that vibe from him. Beta James looked at her with more respect and even concern at times.

“Rain,” Tony spoke and she snapped out of her angry stare. He stood in front of her, sexy as always. He wore a fitted black top that showed off his muscles, his gray eyes having the ability to draw any woman towards him. He looked her up and down, pleased by her appearance. She felt his need for her, which made her smile.

“Hey,”she said and smiled.

“What did he say to you?” Tony asked, glancing at his father. Rain knew she couldn’t tell Tony about his father’s warning. She didn’t want him pissed off just before his challenge. So, she took his hand instead to comfort and relax her mate.

“Nothing important to me. You ready?” She asked and he smiled.

“Always,” he said and touched her face.

“As your chosen Luna, I can take your place right?” Rain asked and Tony froze in fear.

“I won’t allow it,” Tony said firmly.

“I need you to trust me. I need to do this. Besides, he disrespected me and I think he’s too weak to kill me” she told him and he stared at her.

“I trust you, but Drew doesn’t exactly fight fair. You do realize this is a fight to the death, right? You really think you are capable of killing someone?” Tony asked her in concern .

“I’m going to go find a seat.,” Kylie interrupted, smiled, and quickly walked off.

“I care about you Rain. I need you to know that.” Tony said and Rain felt her entire body freeze. She looked up at him in surprise, but knew what he said was the truth. She knew that her response needed to be the truth, so she thought for a moment on how to reply to his statement.

“I don’t need you to say it back until you are ready. I just wanted you to know how important you are to me. No matter what my father says to you, I will always choose you. And…”Tony froze mid-speech as he grabbed her waist. He looked down at her stomach, let her go, and stepped back away from her. She could feel his confusion and fear, his heart beginning to beat faster.

“What’s wrong?” Rain asked, but then she felt what he felt. A heartbeat. She closed her eyes and hugged Tony, listening to the heartbeat within her. In her womb was a heartbeat, and Rain suddenly knew she was pregnant. She opened her eyes, staring at Tony and feeling speechless.

“We’re fucked,” Tony told her and they both froze in utter shock.

“No shit Tony. This can’t be happening” Rain said in an aggravated tone. She barely knew Tony even though they shared a mate bond. Her heart began to race and she realized that this unexpected surprise was going to cause a lot of problems when Alpha Leo found out. He already didn’t accept her, so how would he feel about her being pregnant by his son? Rain was aware that she and Tony had been reckless when they had sex. She began remembering that they’d often been caught in the moment and rarely used protection. She had birth control pills, but she had been training almost every day and knew she must have accidentally missed a few of her pills.

“We can’t go through with this challenge Rain,” Tony told her. He was right. A challenge could kill their child and Rain wasn’t willing to let anyone hurt her baby, even though she never wanted to be a mother.

As Rain and Tony stared at one another, the speaker in the arena broke their attention when Alpha Leo made an announcement.

“Beta James has requested the challenge be delayed. Therefore, I will honor his request and we will proceed with the challenge at a later date. Everyone is dismissed.” Alpha Leo spoke over the speaker.

“What the fuck is going on?”Rain asked Tony and he shrugged. She was genuinely confused and despite just finding out she was pregnant, she felt a feeling of fear.

“I really don’t know. A challenge has never been delayed. Let’s get out of here and talk privately.” Tony said and took Rain’s hand. They quickly walked out of the arena and went into one of the gardens, finding a stone table and bench. They sat down and Rain put her head in her hands.

“I can’t believe this is happening. I don’t understand. I don’t even want any kids Tony” She said madly.

“My dad is going to lose his shit. I thought you were on the pill?” He asked her.

“I am, but trainings been intense. I must have missed a dose. Fuck. Your dad already fucking hates me and made it clear that he will never accept us sharing a mate bond. Do you have any fucking idea what he’s going to do when he finds out about this?” Rain said hysterically.

“What do you want to do. I mean, you’re not thinking of…” Tony spoke, but couldn’t bring himself to mention terminating Rain’s pregnancy.

“Maybe we should,” Rain said sadly and she felt tears in her eyes.

“I would advise you not to terminate your pregnancy” Beta James spoke, walking up to them. Rain and Tony both looked up as he approached their table.

“How can you possibly know that I’m pregnant?” Rain questioned their leader.

“You mind if I sit and explain?” Beta James asked.

“Of course Beta. Please join us,” Tony said, Beta James sitting down at the table with them. Rain studied him and saw that he had a look on his face she’d never seen before. He was nervous, but she wondered why someone with so much power would feel nervous about a conversation. And how did he know she was pregnant when she just found out herself? Beta James was the most powerful Alpha of the pack who gave up his title years ago. Rain always caught him watching her during training, but she assumed that he watched her because he admired her strength.

Rain stared at him in confusion and that’s when she saw a flash of light and was suddenly standing in a wooden cabin in the woods that she had never seen before. She could see the trees outside and the walls were made of solid oak logs. She saw Beta James, who appeared to be much younger. He held an infant, smiling down at the small child. Standing in front of him was a beautiful blonde woman with golden hair and beautiful emerald eyes. This woman was absolutely beautiful, and Rain could see that she strongly resembled the woman in appearance.

“James, I need you take Rain to Emma. She will be expecting you.” The woman spoke and Beta James looked up at her, the infant sound asleep in his arms.

“I’m not leaving you Jennifer. We are stronger together and my pack is looking for you because of your Alpha’s betrayal. He killed Alpha Leo’s mate. You really think that he won’t kill every member of the Moon pack. He doesn’t care that we are mated. He will still come after you. I need to be here to protect you,” Beta James spoke. The woman, who Beta James called Jennifer, smiled and touched his face with admiration.

“And I need you to always put Rain first James. She’s our child and I’ll never forgive you if she’s harmed. You are really willing to keep her here in harms way just to protect me?” Jennifer said to him sadly. Rain saw the pain in Beta James’s eyes. He didn’t want to choose between his mate and his child, but he knew he had to make a decision.

“I’d protect our child first.”He said sadly, Jennifer walking up to him and kissing his lips. They rested each other’s foreheads against one another, their eyes closed as if they were savoring every moment together.

“And that is how it should be. I had a vision of her future James. Rain is special. She will become mated with Leo’s son, and their heir will bring peace and unite our packs as it should be. You need to accept that I will not be there to see it, but I need you to always be there for our daughter.” Jennifer told him.

“I promise you I will always protect Rain,” Beta James assured her.

“There will be a day when Rain’s mate will be challenged. Rain will want to fight for her mate, but that is when she will be carrying our grandchild. In that moment, you need to tell her everything. She will want to terminate her pregnancy because she will be afraid. Her son needs to be born. Promise me that you will make sure our grandchild is born.” Jennifer pleaded with Beta James.

“I promise you with my life,” Beta James told her and Jennifer stepped back slowly. She bent down and kissed the small sleeping child, tears falling down her cheeks. Then, she looked up at Beta James and kissed him on the lips.

“You need to go before Alpha Leo gets here. Tell Rain that I will always love her,” Jennifer told him.

“I promise,” Beta James said and smiled. With those last words, he bundled up their child and left the cabin.

Rain gasped when she experienced another bright flash and realized that she was still sitting at the stone table with Tony and Beta James. He was in deep conversation with Tony, Beta James listening to Tony’s concerns.

“How could you possibly know what’s going on?” Tony asked and Beta James took a deep breath as if her were trying to collect himself.

“Because my birth mother told him to stop the challenge. And he’s my father,” Rain spoke softly, Beta James looking up at her in surprise.

“You had a vision” Beta James said and sat back.

“Ok, I’m lost. Care to explain what the fuck is going on?” Tony said softly.

“Of course. Where do I begin? Yes, I am Rain’s father,” Beta James spoke and Tony nearly went pale. This was going to be a very interesting conversation. Rain wasn’t sure she was mentally prepared to hear what her birth father was going to confess. She wasn’t sure if she was nervous or excited to learn about her past.
