Chapter 21

A man runs to them and attempts to open the car’s door to impede their departure, but Asher rotates the gun between his fingers in a way that and then smashes the bottom of the barrel on the man’s nose twice.

Olivia has to admit. It was really goddamn cool.

The car advances, and they drive off, clangs of bullets hitting the car’s body until a silence envelops the two.

“F*cking bastards,” Asher spits.

Olivia must have entirely lost her mind because she explodes into laughter then, uncaring of the sting that courses through her aching rib. “Oh my god.”

“Focus on the damn road,” Asher says, twisting to look behind. “The last thing we need is you crashing us into a tree.”

Olivia sits up, hands stiff on the wheel as she passes the third gear. Asher faces the front again, and his fist slams on the edge of the window with a pained hiss.

“Are you okay?” Olivia asks, worried, nerves still raw but pacifying a little more at the way Asher pants and grimaces when he pushes a palm on his belly.
