4. His mate

Gavin's POV:

Gavin's mind was going crazy since he found that Kaylynn was his destined mate.

Kaylynn!!

His only crush from childhood. She was a rare beauty with brains and strength. He always found her with Kade, whom he knew as her best friend. Gavin had dated many girls in their pack and other packs too, but it was all nothing. Every girl was after him, except Kaylynn. It was like she didn't have the eye to see his charm... And Gavin wasn't a person who would go after any girl; girls followed him.

Gavin knew that she was a tough cookie, unlike the other girls who could be pleased with expensive gifts. As she was the Beta's daughter, she was off-limits too. She never looked at his side, and her only dream was to become the beta of the pack.

As he went for his higher studies and training, he thought he would get over her. But often her face crossed his mind. It wasn't like he was in love with her, but there was something he felt with her.

They were the strongest pack in Europe after the King's army. And their territory was larger than any normal pack. It consisted of thousands of warriors, and yes, they were strong. But attacks were happening so frequently, as somebody wanted to bring their pack down to hell.

Gavin knew that they needed to strengthen the pack, and the best and easiest way was to get the favour of the Lycan King himself. The Royal Lycans were people of extreme power. Nobody would dare to go against them. So being on their side would boost the pack's power and safety.

That was when Gavin came across Amelia. He knew Amelia was attracted to him, and she was popular in college as she was the King's sister. The palace was responsible for designing and advertising for the whole werewolf community. So if they could be in favour of the palace, it would help the pack's clothing business too. And Gavin was never a fan of being with one woman for his whole life. And he didn't like the destined mate thing. That's why Gavin accepted Amelia as his girlfriend. Amelia is a selfish, coquettish girl; other than that, she is a beauty with immense family support.

Three years later, Gavin was coming back to his home. As he stepped out of the airport, his nostrils were filled with the scent of fresh roses, which led him to Kaylynn. But after seeing Kay at the airport and finding her as his mate, his heart skipped a beat. But soon he became a practical person in the presence of Amelia. He had planned everything for the future of him and the wellbeing of his pack. So nothing changed, he thought. But Kaylynn...

She made everything difficult for him. He thought after declaring Amelia as his future Luna, Kay would be broken or even keep away from him.

But she was like it didn't affect her at all. And she was performing her duties well too. And that hurt him, maybe only his ego. The girls would go crazy about him, but Kaylynn, even after knowing that he was her mate, acted like she didn't care. Like he was not important.

That night, Gavin couldn't sleep as he didn't see Kay even at dinner. He had this urge to see her. He wanted to talk to her about the mate thing—that he was never going to accept her—but his wolf, Jazz, was infuriated whenever he came across this thought. He enjoyed Amelia's company as well as Gavin until they met Kay. It was as if he became a saint after seeing their mate. He was not cooperating well, especially when Gavin was with Amelia. And Amelia didn't like Kaylynn; that's for sure. Maybe because she was more beautiful than her. But it was not going to bring any good to Kaylynn. Amelia could be venomous when she hated somebody. After accepting her as his girlfriend, she didn't allow any girl to get close to Gavin. So Kaylynn needed to stay away from her. Stay away from me too.

When Gavin saw the interaction between Kade and Kay, his wolf was driving him crazy with possessiveness. Especially when he heard Kay saying "love you" to Kade. That's it—it wasn't his wolf alone; now Gavin was also annoyed.

"How dare she talk to another man like this in the presence of her mate!!" Gavin screamed in his mind.

"That's because you never dared to claim her as ours, idiot..." Jazz retorted back.

Gavin called out, "Kade... you are so dead today," Gavin screamed in his head.

Even though Gavin knew they were only good friends, he couldn't get over the words she said. That's why he sent Kade away from the pack to their company, even after knowing there was a meeting. He couldn't bear to see any man near her for now. Otherwise, he would go crazy.

Gavin enjoyed that Kay was in search of Kade, and when he said the truth, she got irritated. And that made him happy. Hm... she must have figured it out that I punished him like this. That's good, she should know. Gavin wanted to talk more with Kay when Amelia entered. She was supposed to be in her room enjoying the spa; what's she doing here?

Then Gavin got alerted that she must have suspected something, that's why she followed him. It would be dangerous for Kay, or even him and the pack. They couldn't go against the King's family. They wouldn't survive after that. So Gavin put up with her and even gave a show in front of Kay, just to please Amelia. But she wasn't ready to leave; she wanted to participate in the meeting.

From his dad's nature, he knew he wasn't that impressed with Amelia. He even supported Kay immensely in front of Amelia, even after knowing she was a Lycan and belonged to the King's family. Kay was truly brilliant. She wanted to strengthen the pack instead of asking for help from others... he was impressed too...

Perhaps he should have thought this way, then he wouldn't be tangled in a relationship with Amelia.

When Dad mentioned the mating ceremony, his eyes went towards Kay unintentionally. Even though she looked so strong, he could hear her unsteady heartbeat, which told him the news was affecting her. She excused herself from there to make a call. And within a few seconds, he followed, as Amelia was called by his mom for a bit of chat. He saw her cutting the call, most probably Kade.

As the elevator opened, he pushed her inside and closed its door and paused it. He didn't know what he was doing at that time. Her scent was driving him crazy, and as he caught her hand to stop her from turning on the switch, he felt fireworks erupting inside him... Jazz was going crazy with the pleasure of being near his mate. He wanted Gavin to claim her right away. He knew he couldn't do that... and this mate bond was making everything more and more difficult.

Gavin knew he would go crazy if he didn't clear the matter. That's why he said he wanted to meet her personally. But she acted like she had no clue what he was talking about. But her body betrayed her... her skin was flushed with his closeness. And those rosy lips...!!

Gavin knew he couldn't control anymore, that's why he left immediately after that. His birthday was in ten days, and Dad was planning to invite the royals to the pack a week before. Hm... everything had gone beyond his control. And if he stepped back now, it would destroy his pack. He couldn't do that... It was just the attraction of the mate bond and nothing else, and once it was gone, everything would be fine.

He didn't go back to the meeting; instead, he took a cold shower as her closeness had physically affected him. And also, he couldn't risk Amelia finding Kay's scent on him.

After freshening up, he went back to Amelia, who seemed pissed that he left her there. He took her shopping, which was the best way to please her. After all, he knew the best ways to please a girl. After a hectic shopping, they came back to the pack. As they were entering their territory, he noticed a new black Audi. And saw in the distance Kay giving instructions to the patrolling group. Gavin was impressed with her leadership abilities. She was born to lead, as she was strong, brilliant, and compassionate. She was going to be a strong beta... hm... if fate wasn't different, she was going to be the Luna of the pack...!!

He passed them and went inside their territory. There were several houses here and there. Their mansion was at the heart of the territory. And in ten minutes, they reached the mansion. Dad and Mom were having coffee and they invited them to join.

"Gavin, as per the last meeting's opinion, the new rule is applied for strengthening the border security and training of the females. Kay is leading it. But you need to assure her safety too, as you know how selfless she can be. Either you or Kade should be with her whenever she goes out at night patrolling. And on other days, when she is busy, you and Kade should manage it as well." Dad instructed him, and he agreed. He could feel Amelia didn't like it at all.

Then Dad turned to Amelia and said,

"Amelia, from tomorrow onwards, girls from the age of ten will start their training. Kay will be their instructor. If you are interested in training them, you can take the opportunity—"

"Oh no, thanks. That's meant for warriors, right. I never had to fight my whole life as I was raised as a royal. I think Kaylynn would be the best choice."

"But Amelia, as Luna, you should know how to fight better. Maybe in situations, we have to protect the pack ourselves. So you should train well." Mom told her with concern.

"Luna, I am sorry. I don't have any interest in this. As I said, whatever support you need in the form of strength, army, or money, my family can provide it. So please don't pressure me... I am a bit tired, I will see you all later..." Amelia said and left with a smile.

Mom and Dad were displeased with her reaction. He was also a bit disappointed that she didn't even want to try it.

"Hm... Gavin, you better watch your back. Because we will be strong only with our strength; all other support cannot be forever. Tell this to your mate. She is going to be the Luna of this pack, so she must know all this. Royal or Lycan, she should accept the rules of this pack when she is here. You better talk about this with her. And from tomorrow onwards, male and female warriors will train together. You should watch them to avoid injuries. As the strength of the pack is high, it should be done in different sections. Kay has promised me that she will find the best trainers for each team, and she will train the teenagers as well..." Dad said with relief.

"Okay Dad, I saw her at the border. Did she go on a night patrol today??" he asked, masking his concern.

"Yes, as Kade is tired from the hectic job you have given, he is taking a rest. If you are free, go and check on the borders..."

Gavin was somehow delighted with this request and agreed immediately. He took a quick shower and went to check on Amelia. After the hectic shopping and having junk food, Amelia had dozed off. That's a relief, he thought, and ran towards the borders to see his mate.
