6. Attack

“Oh, sh*t,” Kay cursed and ran back to where Gavin was. He must be off guard due to their emotional drama. The more she thought about it, the more scared she became. Her paws hardly touched the ground as she ran like the wind.

As she neared, she heard the sound of an attack. F*ck, they started launching on him. There were almost eight wolves. A strong alpha like him could take up to four or five at a time, but these bastards were fighting him all at once when he was already struggling.

For a second, Gavin’s wolf looked at hers, and he was pleading for her to go away...

But she wasn’t a coward.

She jumped on them with full force, and three of them fell sideways. She hadn’t had any experience fighting a male wolf, which was bigger than a she-wolf. Kade had taught her many tricks, by which she could take down male wolves effortlessly.

As three of them were out of his hold, he started to fight back effectively. By that time, one of the three jumped at Kay, underestimating her power, and without any mercy, she went for his throat, and in the next second his body fell into the mud. The rogues stood shocked for a second, then the other two jumped at her and started attacking her.

Gavin saw this and he was furious; he was a killing machine at that time.

Kay managed to defend them, and while going for one's neck, the other one's canines sank deep into her leg. She wanted to scream in pain, but instead she let it out on the other one's neck. The one who bit her leg was thrown to the ground by Gavin, who managed to kill the rest of the rogues.

Gavin’s eyes fell on her bloodied leg and then on the rogue who was almost dead with fear. Kay watched Gavin torture the last rogue endlessly and finally kill him.

Gavin got close to her and checked for injuries, then looked at the wound and licked her blood away from it. Kay knew the wound would heal faster with the help of saliva, especially from their mate—and he was doing that to her. The pain was replaced by pleasure as his tongue touched the wound... She was taken into an unexpected need of belonging as she was being intimate with him like this.

She shifted back as her body was too tired. She couldn’t move her legs or even walk to where she had dropped her clothes. Gavin brought them to her and moved away, as if giving her space. She wore the clothes, and by the time she was ready, she heard other wolves coming for rescue.

Kay looked around for Gavin, but he wasn’t found. So she guessed that he didn’t want others to know of his presence, so that too many questions might be asked—and it would disturb Amelia too. So she made up a lie that she was attacked by rogues while she went to inspect the lakeside. On the way back home, she was worried about him. Kay wasn’t sure if Gavin had any injuries, and that thought disturbed her.

She was taken to the infirmary, where Dad and Kade were waiting for her. As she saw them, she hid the pain she was feeling and smiled at them.

"Kaylynn... what happened to you?? Are you okay??" Dad checked her for injuries.

"Dad, I am fine... those stupid rogues attacked me. Only my leg is injured, which will be okay in a day or two. Don’t worry." I said. But Kade had a frown and was analyzing my face like he was inspecting something.

Then they took me inside. The doctor checked the wound and told Kay that it would heal faster as she had applied the saliva soon. She was allowed to go back to the mansion after the drip.

After some time, Kade entered the observation room. But he wasn’t saying anything. Kay felt uneasy with his weird behavior.

"How did it happen??" he asked. His mood was serious, which was unusual.

"Kade, I told you—it was rogues..." Kay’s words were cut off by Kade.

"If it was only rogues, then why can I smell Gavin on you..."

Kay stayed silent for a second. She had feared someone would notice Gavin’s scent on her. And now Kade had found it... damn it!!

I hate to lie, but for now I should.

"Kade..."

"Did he hurt you??" he asked in an enraged tone. I had never seen him like this.

"No... please believe me. Instead of that, he saved me. That’s the truth. I went for a run in the woods. He must have come at Alpha Gerald’s suggestion to accompany me. By the time he reached there, I was under attack. It was near the lake. I didn’t expect it at all. Thank God he reached in time, otherwise..."

"You are so stupid, Kay... I know you are strong, even equal to male wolves. But it doesn’t mean you are wiser. Who told you to go alone in the woods, that too near the lake? You very well know that it’s a risky area. But you were so stupid that you had to go there alone. Thank God Gavin came on time. But why would you hide the fact that he was with you??" She will think we went together as part of a plan etc... I don’t want all the drama. So as I suggested, Gavin went away." I saw Kade’s features relax as he believed it.

"You’re right... Amelia is an insecure b*tch who may try to harm you if she hears about it. Even though I hate Gavin for treating me like a slave today, I feel proud of him now. He suspected the threat and reached there in time..."

"Yeah yeah...!!" I kept hearing him praise Gavin. But it made me smile inside.

Then the nurse came and said, Alpha Gavin is here. As only one person was permitted inside, Kade went out while Gavin came in. While leaving, I saw Kade saying, "You did well, bro..."

Gavin looked at me with confusion.

"He found your scent on me. And I had to lie that you came and saved me from the rogues who attacked me."

"So you just reversed the story..."

"But you got the hero image on Kade. And you are out of doubt for others, especially Amelia. That’s why you left at that time, right??"

He sighed and said,

"How are you feeling now??"

"I am okay... The doctor said as you applied the saliva on time, it will heal faster. I will be okay by tomorrow," I said with a smile.

"No, you should rest and only step out of the mansion when you are fully healed. Otherwise, I will tell your family to keep you in your room until I say to release you..." he said in a serious tone that annoyed me.

"So you're planning to house arrest me??" I muttered.

"But I will be bored... seriously, I am alright..." I pleaded.

He twitched his eyebrows and said in a serious tone,

"Kay, I won’t repeat it. And I promise you that you won’t get bored. I will get going now."

But when he mentioned the promise, there was a hint of spark in his eyes.

How can he promise that?? Is there any hidden meaning behind it!!

"Hey, do you have any injuries??" Kay asked as she remembered he could also have been hurt.

Then he touched his waist where she had given a small punch earlier, then put on a charming smile and left.

Uff... this man is making everything difficult for me...!!

How long can I resist his charm and protect my heart from a breakdown...!!

I know what the reality is, I won’t give in to my urges so easily...

This mate is not going to get easily tamed by Gavin...
