5. He said it!!

After taking a nap, I heard Ruby knocking at my door along with shouting to open the door. Hm... Kay knew that she was up to something to make her mood worse.

When Kay opened the door, she saw a furious Ruby.

"What's the matter, Ruby? Were you trying to break my door??"

"Kaylynn, are you out of your mind??" she was annoyed.

"Ruby, tell me what have I done now to irk you??" Kay asked, as she knew Ruby would have found something to fight about.

"Whom do you think you are to say that the girls under the age of eighteen also should participate in night patrolling. Not only that, girls from the age of ten are also needed to attend compulsory training from tomorrow onwards..."

So that's her problem. Unlike Kay, Ruby hated training and hard-working jobs. She was all into beauty-related things as she wanted to become a model in the future. Since childhood, Kay was a hardworking child, whereas Ruby didn't need to do anything. Their mother treated these two daughters differently. Now, as it came out as a rule, no one was an exception.

"So that's your problem..." Kay said.

"Yes, it is. I heard from Dad, who was proudly saying that these stupid ideas of yours were accepted by the Alpha. What's your problem, Kay?? If you like, you can go and do training and night patrolling. But why are you forcing others, those who aren't interested in it? It's not like we are living in the Stone Age that there is going to be a war or something."

"You are right. We aren't living in that time. But it doesn't mean that we won't get attacked. The number of security breaches on our borders is increasing. I suggested training the girls not to push them to fight, but for their safety. They should know basic self-defense..."

"Bullsh*t... you and your stupid ideas..." she muttered and went away. Then I saw Mom coming, who continued cursing me just because I was making Ruby's mood bad. Hmm... just great!!

I didn't feel like staying there. So I changed my clothing and went out. Kade was back from the office and he looked tired.

"Hey, you look awful...!!" I commented after trying to hide my laugh while looking at his pitiful face.

"Don't hide... just laugh it out... our dear future Alpha is crazy. He made me check past year's auditing files which I don't even know what I was doing... And now I have a severe headache too..."

"Aww... don't be sad. Go and take a warm bath. By that time I will prepare my special chicken soup. After that, you can sleep... okay...??"

"Thanks, Kay. I think I need a soak itself. I will be back in half an hour, make the soup ready..."

After Kade left, Kay went to the kitchen. Even though there were servants to prepare food, Kay often cooked there, either for herself, her dad, or Kade. After chit-chatting with the servants, she cooked her special soup and brought it to Kade's room. He was already ready and waiting with a hungry tummy.

"Mmm... it smells so good... Your mate must be so lucky to have you!!" he commented, and I gulped then plastered a cheesy smile.

"You don't need to praise me to get my handmade soup in the future too..."

Then, as if Kade remembered something, he asked,

"Yesterday was your birthday. You were supposed to find your mate. But you haven't said anything about it??"

Kay knew that if she shared it, Kade would keep it a secret. But for now, things are just so complicated that she doesn't feel like sharing it with him.

"I wasn't lucky enough to find my mate yesterday... Sometimes we will have to wait, right??"

"Oh, sorry. Yep, you are right... otherwise, by this time, I would have found my mate too." he sighed.

"Don't worry, you will find her soon. Anyways, take a rest. I should get going. The new rules' responsibilities are on me. So I am a little busy right now."

"You haven't taken up the position as Beta yet, but you're already so busy. Are you giving me a show, darling!!" he teased, and I smacked his head and went out.

I hadn't seen Gavin since the elevator incident. Hm... it's good. I mind-linked those who were in charge of night patrolling and ran towards the borders. I explained each section about the new rule and how it was going to be implemented. After explaining each section, I reached the main entrance. I called the technical staff and checked the CCTV coverage and even discussed using drones if needed.

I was in the middle of a conversation when I noticed Gavin's Porsche coming towards the entrance. I got a sneak peek of Gavin looking at my side, and Amelia was next to him, busy on her phone. For a few seconds, I had this uneasiness about facing his burning gaze. As his car went out of sight, I sighed in relief.

I checked the previous footage and found that the CCTV had been taken down first by the intruders so that we wouldn't get any glimpse of them. It was a well-planned attack, and those who encountered them said they were well-trained like ninjas and didn't have the scent of rogues. That means some other pack or packs are trying to take us down.

After discussing with the technical team, I went with a few she-wolves I trusted and placed them along with the male patrolling team so they would get used to the routine. It was almost night, so I planned to go back for dinner. Then I thought about going for a run in the woods. There was moonlight, and the climate was so good. But I hadn't gone to the woods alone; Kade would always accompany me.

I thought of doing a quick run and coming back soon. So I shifted and kept my clothes in my mouth and ran into the woods. My fur moved like waves in the breeze, and I moved forward enjoying the beauty of the moon. My paws hardly touched the ground, and the fallen leaves seemed to welcome my arrival.

As I reached the middle of the forest, I had this urge to go to the lakeside. But that place is not safe, because opposite the lake is another common territory. That means even rogues could be there. But they hardly cross the lake as the current is too strong for a normal wolf.

I was almost there when I had the feeling that someone was following me. My senses got alerted, and I searched for any scent. But then, like a wind, I heard something from behind. When I turned around, there was a big brown wolf standing in front of me. In a second, he jumped toward me, and I moved aside. But surprisingly, he wasn't in attacking mode. And the scent was... Gavin...!!

In the next second, his wolf came toward me. I could feel that only his wolf was in control and that it might try to claim me even without Gavin's approval. I moved away from him, showing my disapproval. Maya wanted to take over too... but I immediately shifted back and cut her out of my mind.

For a second, I forgot that I was standing naked in front of him. I went behind the tree and said,

"Gavin, I know it's you... shift back..." I said it like a command while wearing clothes. I know the Alpha blood in him wouldn't allow him to accept the command, but surprisingly he shifted back. By the time I came out from behind the tree, he was already in his trousers. His chest was bare, and it looked perfect with toned abs. No... no... Kaylynn... don't fall for his looks and charms... but it wasn't working...

Thank God, he couldn't see me blushing uncontrollably. He looked at me like he was in a trance.

"Gavin...!!" Before I could say something, he strode toward me with long steps and pinned me against the tree. I was shocked to respond, and I could see him looking at me with so much passion that it made my mind confused. His full body was pressed against me, and I started to feel unknown emotions inside me. I was caged between the tree and him. I tried to move sideways, but he blocked me with his arms while smirking. And that brought me back to the reality of what kind of jerk he is.

"Gavin, what are you doing??" I yelled at him.

He leaned near my ear and whispered, fanning his breath over my skin.

"Don't you know what I would want to do to you... Miss sexy legs??"

I closed my eyes as his teasing words and closeness made my breathing unsteady...

"Gavin, you should move away from me..." I said while struggling to control my breathing... and I punched him on his waist.

"Ouch... feisty!! Mmm... or else what would you do, my beautiful MATE?!"

It was like a shiver passed through me... He finally said it. He said that I am his mate...!! My eyes widened in the next second, and I saw him looking at me eye to eye. His gaze dropped to my lips, which were trembling under his stare...

But Kaylynn couldn't do this... she is not an option...!!

As he leaned in, she moved her face sideways so that the kiss landed on her cheek.

"Mmm..." she heard him grunt in displeasure as she moved away. But his lips were pressed tightly to her cheek, sending goosebumps all over her body.

"Gavin, stop this..." she whimpered.

"Why would I do that... Mate?? Why were you keeping away from me? Don't you like me??" he asked, still holding her in place.

His words enraged Kay. Mate?? Is he stupid or something? Or does he think I am that desperate for him??

"Mate?? Seriously?? How could you call me that without any shame??" Kay asked with fury.

Gavin didn't respond but also didn't let her go. He leaned in again and took a whiff of her, then suddenly moved back. Kay was confused by his actions. But she didn't stay there another second. She shifted into wolf form and ran back into the forest when she suddenly caught the scent of a rogue...

Not one, but many of them... which meant they were near and must be targeting something. Then she remembered Gavin, alone in human form... and he might be off guard too...
