Chapter 6 Let's Divorce

After Nancy stepped out of the car, she walked steadily along the road, her mind a whirlpool of thoughts. She had deliberately concealed her correct address from the man who had given her a ride. She circled around the street twice to ensure she wasn't being followed before heading in the direction of the Shaw family residence.

Without warning, a gentle rain began to fall. It swept toward her on a refreshing breeze, kissing her skin with cool, moist droplets, making her instinctively hug her arms to herself. However, the chill remained, and the cold found its way into her bosom.

Taking out her phone, Nancy sent a text message to Spencer, asking about his flight so she could pick him up from the airport. He responded five minutes later, refusing to provide details about his arrival time. Instead, he mentioned that he would be busy and would head straight to the office, insisting that she did not need to pick him up.

Nancy was hardly surprised by his response.

She wondered how other married couples lived. For her, Spencer always used that one recurring excuse of being busy with work. The last time he used that excuse was during her birthday a month ago. He said he had to travel abroad, so they couldn't celebrate together. But the very next day, the news of Mr. Shaw and popular singer Teresa enjoying a getaway to celebrate her birthday was all over the internet.

Nancy did not call him to ask about the incident.

This marriage was everything she had. She couldn't allow herself to cut her already precarious ties. All Nancy hoped for was that the events of the previous night could be forgotten and erased from existence.

As she approached the Shaw residence, a glimmer of familiar silver caught her eye. Spencer's sports car. So, he had already returned? She looked closer and through the half-open car window, she could see the man in the driver's seat and a woman in the passenger's seat kissing!

Her heart clenched tight. Nancy felt her feet moving, drawing her closer to the car. She rapped on the window, startling the two within.

A handsome, cultured man stepped out of the car. Spencer looked at Nancy apologetically and began to say, "Nancy, I..."

"Since you're at the doorstep, why don't you join me for lunch?" Nancy interrupted, pretending not to have seen what they were doing in the car.

Ignoring the woman still inside the vehicle, she turned to walk away.

"Nancy." Spencer caught her hand, his voice suddenly serious. "Let's talk about getting a divorce."

Nancy's breath was caught in her throat.

Before she could say anything, the passenger door opened.

"Spencer..." Teresa began to step out.

Spencer's expression changed instantly and said, "Stay in the car, it's raining!" He quickly took off his coat and draped it around Teresa, protecting her carefully.

"Yes, it's raining." Nancy's lips twisted into a bitter smile as she looked at the misty rain around her. Soaked to the bone, yet her husband only had eyes for another woman.

Noticing the mockery in Nancy's eyes, Spencer looked somewhat apologetic. "Teresa can't catch a cold. She… She's pregnant!"

Nancy thought her heart had grown immune to his actions, but this news still managed to strike her. "What did you say?"

"I'm sorry, Nancy, but I genuinely love Teresa."

There was an awkward silence.

"I can't let her down. Let's divorce."

The words hung in the air, cold and cutting as Nancy stood there, and the chill seeping deeper into her very soul. Her marriage, everything she had fought for, was unraveling before her very eyes. Her heart ached, but her face remained still, holding back the storm that raged within.
