Chapter 69

Brielle sat on the edge of the bed, her fingers brushing over the fabric of the red dress with strokes she didn't even know she was doing. The card sat open on her nightstand, and even though it only contained five words in it, they lingered in her mind longer than she liked them to.

She didn't need to guess who sent it to her. It could only be Ethan. That was his style, trying to be kind in a controlling and arrogant sort of way. Like everything in his life, even his gestures came with a hint of a command in them. Still, she couldn't bring herself to toss the dress aside or ignore the effort he had put into it. As twisted as it was, she could tell he was trying...but in the only way he knew how.

She glanced at the clock. 4:53 PM. She let out a long sigh wondering if this was a good idea. Did she really want to do this?
