CHAPTER FIVE

He deepened his right hand in his front pocket and brought out five-hundred dollar notes, throwing them at her.

"You could use that for whatever damages you deem fit!" he said curtly before adjusting his tie and suit and walking out on her.

Hannah who was still on the ground scoffed.

"You're some arrogant asshole with probably two inches down there!" she yelled after him but he heard none of her words and spared her no glance.

She finally stood from the ground before dusting her dress and walking away, leaving the money on the ground.

With a discontented heart, she walked back after she was a few feet away from the spot. She removed the pin that was in her hair, bending low and piercing his car tyre with the pin. It was a little hard to do but due to the length of the hairpin, it was possible and she left her hairpin there after many trials to pull it out.

She walked a few feet away after she was done before walking back again to angrily pick the money off the ground.

"You're innocent. You shall not partake in his curt habit!" she said before finally walking away.

Hannah walked back angrily to the coffee shop where Cora awaits her good news. As she walked in, she walked straight to the water dispenser and gulp down two cups of water.

Cora watched her patiently in amusement with her cheeks resting in her palm and her elbow resting on the table.

"Was a rude bastard!" Hannah finally let out, breathing heavily.

"Who?"

"Fuck! I have no idea. I know even know who he is!"

"What did he do to deserve the title then?" Cora asked again and Hannah stared at her as if she was in deep thought before walking to sit opposite her.

"He was the man who threw the cash at me. You remember? When I was making the urgent delivery,"

"Oh, yeah, yeah. The one you yelled at in the middle of the road while all cars were horning," Cora explained.

"You got the description right but the explanation wasn't necessary," Hannah scrunched her nose at her and Cora laughed.

"I just wanted to get the whole scenario right," she retorted with a smile and Hannah scoffed.

"I saw him just now and he did the same thing,"

"What? Hit your scooter?"

"No, silly. He threw five hundred dollars at me! So disrespectful and arrogant,"

"Did you pick the cash or not?"

"I did. Why?" Hannah asked.

"I'd be offended if you didn't!"

"You know everything isn't about money,"

"Tell that to the gods,"

"But you know everything is indeed not about money. I have my ego to protect and my name to keep," Hannah analysed and Cora laughed again.

"Coming from a young lady who is desperately in need of a job,"

"You know that's also totally different," Hannah replied.

"Not so different, to be honest. It's really not bad to want money and trust me, it's definitely not bad to want to do anything for money. I'd even let my pride and ego down!"

"You'd let your pride down?" Hannah asked again in surprise.

"Yes, I'd do. I mean, I tend not to do anything illegal so why on earth can't I be allowed to let my ego down to make money?" Cora answered her and when Hannah was going to speak, a group of girls walked in and Cora stood up again to attend to them.

Hannah sat in silence as she dwells on what Cora had said. Was she capable of doing that? Was she that desperate to make such decisions as letting her pride down to make money?

She was used to upholding her beliefs and doing things her simple way but right now, she was starting to consider what Cora had just said and adding it to the list of her principles.

____________________

There had to be something she wasn't doing right. There had to be a particular place she had gone wrong.

Hannah sat up on her bed that morning again, feeling restless just like how most of her mornings were.

She checked her phone for the umpteenth time but there seems to be no good news forth coming which again saddened her heart.

There was a particular job interview that she had just gone to a few days ago which seems to make her a little but hopeful. The manager was nice and the interview was great. As far as she was concerned, she could get the job and land herself a great gig but right now, it all was looking as though it isn't probable.

But then again, just like every other job interview that she had gone for, the usual "we will get back to you" was meant to be sent which in fact, they usually get back to her but with a sad news. This time, there was no usual notification popping up on her phone screen which could be a good sign or not, she wasn't certain.

Hannah jumped eagerly at the vibrating buzz of her phone that was on her thigh and with a happy grin that soon decreased into a frown, she picked up her call.

"Aren't you coming over today? The car just passed," Cora informed her and she scrunched her nose, an habit that had grown on her since she met Cora. She had always said things that made her do so and now, she was starting to get used to it.

"Fuck the car. I have better things to do right now than have my ass stalking an asshole!" she let out angrily.

"But you know we need that cash. You're derailing from the plan you know?"

Hannah sucked her teeth before she spoke. "You really are unbelievable," she remarked before sucking her teeth again.

"What's unbelievable is how fickle you are,"

"Oh, come on. Is it bad that I plan to save my strength for a fulfilling job hunt?"

"You of all people know there are no fulfilling options right there. That man is the only way to a fufiling cash flow,"
