LOGINI couldn’t be surprised. Normally, I would have teased Cameron a little or even make a joke about their suits. I would have even faked an interest in what dress Hannah was going to wear.
“Dad just has me doing stuff. You know my dad, he demands perfection.” The lie tasted bitter, but she accepted it. Only Cameron tilted his head and looked between Simon and myself. He must have said something in the mind-link because. Simon frowned and looked at Cameron.
That was my cue to leave. Closing the door, I started down the hallway and down the stairs. Even being as quiet as a mouse, my dad still hears me. “Riley.” He just said my name. It was both a command and a question.
“Yes, Beta John?” In public, I was forced to address him as such.
“Come in and shut the door.” He didn’t even look up from his desk as he spoke. Shutting the door quietly, it felt like the longest walk to his chairs to sit down. In reality, it was only a few feet, but I hated being called into his office.
“What’s going on, kiddo?”
My body instantly relaxed when he called me that. It meant he was being my dad right now and not a beta. “What do you mean?”
“Simon said you blew him off when he tried to talk to you. You might be 18, but I can still feel your emotions and you weren’t thrilled to be nominated to do the tournament.”
There wasn’t a question there. “Simon has a big mouth.”
“Simon is the future alpha and deserves respect. However, I know he gives you a pass because he sees you as a true friend and not someone that is going to challenge him.”
“I was just surprised… and a little… I don’t know. Scared isn’t the right word. People die in that tournament. I just never pictured that as my future. I haven’t met my mate. Haven’t even seen outside of this territory or even kissed a boy and now I am headed to my potential death.” The words were out before I could stop myself. Sierra was annoyed with my human emotions. She wanted to leave today.
“It’s an honor to be nominated.”
That was the statement that told me I wasn’t going to be getting any support. Dad wanted a son, but he got a daughter. I learned a long time ago that he didn’t do emotions, so I might as well forget I had any. “It is, and I am honored to go. I’m just wrapping my head around it. Sierra is thrilled to go.”
“Simon also said you asked for a training session tonight. I think that is an excellent idea. Shows how dedicated you are.”
“I don’t do something halfway. You taught me that.” I tried to put a smile on my face.
Dad seemed pleased. “Good. You can go now.”
Standing up, I took a few steps before turning back around. “Am I free tomorrow? Hannah wanted to hangout.”
Dad looked up and frowned. “I suppose a day off would be okay. After all, everything I have taught you is going to be questioned next week.” He put his head down in the official dismissal.
He didn’t require a response, so I just turned and walked out. “Guess what? I can go to the pool with you!” I said to Hannah as I skipped out of the pack house. Dad usually never gives me the whole day off, so this was going to be fun.
“Really? That’s awesome!” Hannah screamed, making both Sierra and I cringe.
“Yes, ma’am. I’ll see you tomorrow!”
Cutting the mind-link just as I reached my jeep. This Wrangler and I have a personal relationship that no one would compete with. Part of my youth was learning the basics of a mechanic and the result of it was this jeep. Probably the best memories I have with my dad are over this thing.
Part of my youth was watching the tournament with dad. In order to prevent cheating and Alphas mind-linking, the contestant banded an audience completely. Instead, it was broadcasted on the television for everyone to see.
Since my mother was killed in childbirth, it’s always just been dad and me. He allowed me to have the master bedroom so I could have the privacy of the bathroom. Having a house separate from the packhouse was my mom’s idea, and I was thankful. Nothing was better than the quiet the forest provided.
As soon as I was done showering, I turned on last year’s tournament. Seeing Steven walk across my television screen hurt my heart. He made a grave mistake. They were forced to spend a week in the forest. Survival training task. Who had the skills to survive the elements? Not all tasks were about physical strength, but mental as well. Steven didn’t recognize the type of mushroom he was eating and started hallucinating. He ended up falling down a cliff and snapping his neck.
The next was an archery task. Then it was a battle against two rogues. One task after another kept playing in front of me. The only thing I learn was how random these tasks could be. Literally anything to test you physically, mentally, and emotionally. The only thing consistent was the lack of females.
“Riley?” There was a knock on my bedroom door.
“Cameron?” Opening the door, I looked up at Cameron. He was standing there in sweats and a tank, looking sexy as hell. “What are you doing here?” He had never been into my bedroom, so when he pushed past me, I was a little conflicted.
“Simon told me.”
“I can’t talk about it.”
“You can. Simon told Alpha Kent, and he allowed me to know and talk to you. Simon told me you wanted a training session tonight as a last-minute thing.” His eyes went over to the tournament that was still playing on my television.
My anger was growing at Zayne. So when Nox and Tiffany walked in, he raised his eyebrow at me. “I found out why Zayne is always so pissy in the mornings, but why are you upset?” He plopped down next to me. My legs were up against my chest, as I was turned and glaring at Zayne. “Just because I am pregnant does not mean I can’t do anything for myself.” I growled. Nox just tossed his head back and laughed at me. Tiffany was in a chair, just watching the show. Zayne was at his computer, completely unbothered by this. “You are a delicate flower, love. Just relax and let me take care of my girl.” I let out a deep sigh and looked at Nox. “Angel, you knew he was going to be like this. Why are you surprised?” “You didn’t try stopping me from doing shit!” “First off, you were walking a crossed a field and then sat in a car.” Nox narrowed his eye at me. “Don’t make it sound like you were frolicking around the town. Second, this is Zayne’s heir to his pack. Of course, he is going to be extra
“Angel?” Nox was rubbing my leg. We left early from everyone. I wanted some space, and they all agreed to come to their new home to start over. Nox was going to send vehicles to transport anything they needed. I took the first part of the drive, and Nox was finishing it. Neither one of us wanted to stay another night away from our mates. It wasn’t that we were fighting, but it was taking a toll not being around them. “Hmm?” I asked, looking up. “Are we home?” “Just about. Ten minutes. I just wanted to talk to you before we get back.” “About what?” I asked, sitting up. Nox put his hand on my stomach. Something he has been doing. “I want you to know that I love you and this baby. You have a place in my heart.” Nox pulled over. He waited until he parked before he looked at me. Grabbing my face, he kissed me hard. “I’ll never leave you, never turn my back on you, and never do anything to hurt you again. I am truly sorry for everything I put you through.”“I forgive you, Nox.” I whis
“I don’t understand.” I looked at Jim, he motioned for me to go back up. Only when he was up, he closed the door and looked at me. “Mom built that for us kids years and years ago. A little before Nathan was born. I don’t know why your name keeps popping up here, but I think mom knew something deep in her mind.” Jim looked at us. “What we are trying to say…” Sarah reached for my hand. Instantly, I pulled away, but she just kept going until she held my hand. I got a disapproving look from her. “… mom wanted you. Making that blanket and finding that message. She made you that ring and necklace. She knew. She might not have known, but she knew something would happen. She wanted you. Wanted you to find us, and for us to accept you as our sibling.” “We came out here yesterday.” Nathan continued. “We found it then and had a long talk. We already knew how unfair we were to you, but we are sorry. This is us, showing you that mom did want you. Whatever her mental state was, it wasn’t her.”
“How are you two?” Zayne sighed, but we parked off the side of the road. “We just arrived.” Nox matched Zayne sigh. “We aren’t the first ones here, but no one is getting out yet.” “Not what I meant. Come on, tell me what’s going on between you guys. I need to know.” “We are working through it, man.” Nox looked at me. Reaching over, he put his hand on my stomach. “I made up some ground on fucking up. My freak out moment is done, I’ve embraced this.” “Good, and Riley?” “Nox….” I had to bite my lip from my anxiety. “Stop.” He didn’t take his hand off my stomach, but used his other to pull my lip out. “Squeeze my hand.” Doing as he asked, I kept going. “Nox told me this morning that he wasn’t trying to take your place, that he expects me to always go to you first. That he is just another person to find comfort in when you’re not around, or if I am mad at you. It made it feel more… it’s more clear on what roles we want to play with each other. We had a good night, talked a few thing
Nox: Fuck, I’ll do my best. My girl: I believe in you. Just don’t forget her coffee. That was the message she just sent. Changing it to unread, the shower turned off. Setting it back, it was my turn to get up and take a shower. Nox had folded our clothes and set the pregnancy test on top. Even in the morning, there were two pink lines. They were both equally dark, making me wonder how far along I was. “Angel?” My head looked up to see Nox standing there with a towel around his waist. My eyes didn’t look at him and instantly get wet, but I did accept his presence as a comfort. “It’s still positive today.” I sighed as he came over. “I almost expected it to be negative.” Nox sat down and pulled me on his knee. “You’re scared.” “What do I know about being a mother?” Sighing, I tried to stand up, but Nox wasn’t having it. “No. Stay here and talk to me.” “I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. A-are you sure it’s Zayne’s?” “I’m about 90% sure. The few times I came in you were
His lips were gliding across my skin as he barely touched me. Even his hands massaged my breast like they were made of glass. Yet, it felt so good, so sexy, so exposed. Moving down each curve, like I was made for him to explore. Kissing every inch of me. Gentle nibbles, sending waves of pleasure through me as he hit my scars and sensitive spots. Making note of exactly where they are. Moving down each leg, mapping out the freckles and veins that were visible until he lived between my legs. Giving me orgasm after orgasm. However, it was the way he kissed just above where the baby should be. Resting his forehead, I could hear him. “Please let this baby be healthy and know all the love in the world.” Kissing it again, he moved back up to my lips. As he kissed me, his dick found my entrance on its own. Slowly pushing into me, feeling the stretch of my skin around him. A deep groan ran up his chest, making his legs go wide. With one hand around my waist, he picked me up, so I was stradd
