“Well guys, looks like we have a winner!”

I turn to face Laura, who is approaching where I’ve managed to stand up at the finish line. I was still in my wolf form and everyone’s eyes were still on me. They were all completely shocked, there were even a few mouths hanging open.

“I can’t believe someone figured out our little trick the first year we had the slime pit!” Laura tells the cameras. “We truly have a great group of men and women with us this year, folks. Now Angel is a little too busy right now for an interview, but we’ll snag her later when she has her vocal cords again!” Laura gives the camera one of her famous wide grins and soon after someone yells cut, and the cameras are backing away.

“That was god damn perfect.” I look up to see Laura approaching me now. “You have no idea the killer shot we got of you shifting then jumping across the pool. Ten out of ten, great job.” She’s staring at her phone and typing as she talks, but her tone sounds genuinely grateful, so I just no

  • Luna's Choice   Chapter Twenty-August's POV

Even after Angel was gone, my nose was still filled with her scent. Vanilla, fresh baked cookies, sunshine. It was like it had soaked into my pores throughout our day together, making it impossible to get her off my mind.I had parked the car us workers used when we needed to drive a cast member somewhere and was making my way back up to the secondary house where the on-site staff lived. There were only ten of us, sharing five rooms, two people in each one. We didn’t interact much outside of work, mostly all just tucked away in our beds and texted with family or scrolled through social media. Everyone except me was here for one reason: the paycheck. Being a worker on this show may be slightly degrading, but everyone here was very well compensated for their time. I actually had to pay off another worker for my spot here in the end, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to get in undercover, that was how good the check was. I wasn’t sure why it was so high, maybe it was difficult to get

  • Luna's Choice   Chapter Nineteen

By the time August took me home, around four pm, it was safe to say I was smitten with him. It’s not like I had a ton of experience with men under my belt, but I could say for sure the encounters I had were nothing like being around August. After today I was convinced I’d never really had a crush on anyone before, because I couldn’t remember a time another person had made me feel this way… ever.I liked how he listened when I talked, his eyes locked on me and his body language aimed in my direction. He never zoned out when I was speaking, never pulled out his phone mid conversation to check it. He would lean down to hear me better sometimes, his hand hovering around my lower back, and it made me all giddy. He’d open doors for me, ask me questions about myself, and oddly enough, didn’t care at all that I was lower ranking. He’d even said he was jealous of how close it seemed I was with my parents. As I walked through the house to my room, butterflies were fluttering my stomach, and

  • Luna's Choice   Chapter Eighteen

“This place is so cute.” I breathe as August and I walk into a small cafe thirty minutes later. The drive over August had taken advantage of the time and peppered me with a million different questions, like he was trying to get to know me. He’d asked my favorite color, my favorite animal, if I was allergic to anything. At first it had been weird talking about myself so much with a perfect stranger, but eventually I’d relaxed and just gone with the flow. They were all pretty innocent, insignificant questions, but I found myself liking that he even cared enough to ask if I preferred whole grain bread or white. No one had ever taken the time to get to know me quite so thoroughly. We’d pulled up into the small parking lot of a tiny green building tucked into a corner downtown. It was halfway underground, with steep steps leading to the pale pink front door. There were vines crawling up the sides of the building and potted plants around the entrance. There were no signs or indicators to

  • Luna's Choice   Chapter Seventeen

“Well, I don’t know how you did it, but we somehow managed to make it through the first round because of you.” I look up, smiling a little at Quinton. We had just finished with the closing ceremony for the first round of the show, and much to everyone’s shock, Quinton and I were staying, and Peter was kicked off. Time had run out on him, and they’d sent workers in to get him. He came storming out a few minutes later, his fists clenched at his sides and his glare fixed on me from the second he broke through the tree line. “You little bitch.” he had growled, quickly closing the distance between us. Before I’d even had time to shoot back at him, Victor and Quinton both had stepped in front of me, blocking his path to me. He’d yelled at them and taunted them, calling them whipped, losers. He had to be dragged off the set, actually, the cameras capturing every juicy moment as it went down. Any guilt I’d felt about what I’d done was washed away as he yelled curses at me as he was pulled

  • Luna's Choice   Chapter Sixteen-Angel's POV

“Come on Angel, we only have fifteen minutes left!” “I know, I know!” I huff at Quinton as we run through the trees as humans, both of our breaths labored and shallow. Though it was clear I was struggling a little more than Quinton. I think he might have even been going slower for my sake. We both had all our items and were so close to finishing. We just had to make it through the woods and back to the lake house within the remaining time limit. We had almost lost everything to Peter. We would have, had it not been for the randomly appearing knight in furry armor. I had a very, very strong feeling as to who it was, but why would August help me like that? He didn’t owe me anything, we weren’t friends, he wasn’t a contestant on the show trying to win my affections. What was his angle? There was no way he was just being nice to be nice. People just weren’t like that.Still. If it hadn’t been for him, Quinton and I would have been one hundred percent screwed. I would have to thank him

  • Luna's Choice   Chapter Fifteen-August's POV

“I don’t understand why they wouldn’t have watermelon boba. Like it’s the best flavor. If you’re gonna offer boba in the first place, you might as well make sure you have the good flavors.” I have to actually physically restrain myself from rolling my eyes at one of the girl's complaints… Emily maybe? She was a ginger with kind of an impressive rack, but something about the sound of her voice was so grating to me. The image of having to wake up next to her forever, hearing that voice saying “Goood morning” made me shiver a little. So far all but three of the contestants had made it back. Angel, Quinton, and Peter were still searching. Angel and Quinton made sense, since they’d had harder items and were both working alone. I have no idea what Peter was doing. He was partnered with Chase, but I guess once Chase had found his items he had no interest in helping Peter to find his. A good example of the kind of character these people had.Chase was currently the one listening to Emily com
