"Why are you doing this?" My voice cracked at the end of my statement. Leaning back against the wall, I clenched my fists to hide my trembling fingers.

"There was no other way to get you to listen to me. It's just us in here," Lucas turned away from me and walked towards the window.

"We're nothing to each other. We don't need a heartfelt conversation. Besides, I... rejected you," I croaked, blinking back the stinging tears in my eyes.

Lucas took a deep breath and spun around to look at me.

"I didn't reject you, my bond with you is one way. But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist."

He flicked a finger in my direction, his brows knitted into a frown.

"You're the mother of my heir, you shouldn't forget that either," he said, his gaze unwavering.

Instinctively, I wrapped my hands around my stomach.

I would do anything to protect my child from this heartless monster that stood in front of me.
