Lucy's POV

It would've been impossible to take down a man taller than me in a fair fight, so I didn't fight fair. I struck when he least expected it. My claws tore deep into his skull.

Poor Jacob—he had tried to fight— but lost. I'd thought he would be smarter, but he fell right into my little trap, and I was the one walking away now. Maybe I should have thought of this a long time ago.

After the deal was done, I covered his body with a heap of grass but it was a temporary disguise. By nightfall, the wild beasts would find him and any trace of him would be gone.

I wiped my hands with a napkin until the fabric could hold no more. The blood had dried into a dark crust that fought to come off, but I scrubbed until my palms were raw and the worst of it was gone. I climbed into the car and drove back to the pack like a woman who had merely been delayed, not like one who had buried a man in the dirt.

Lanterns burned along the lodge when I pulled in. Voices rose and fell like nothing had cha

Vera's POVThe longest route was abandoned, leaving the shorter routes on the north side of the moon block as Hon’s possible choices. Andrew and I took one of the shorter routes together with Phil who followed closely behind us. A thousand men also accompanied us upfront, while Alpha Sinclair and Alpha Keith took the other route, accompanied by the rest of the men.The ride was quiet, and so was the path we drove through. Huge rocks towered on each side and the dunes were thick and soft like those of the desert, causing the car to move sluggishly.“We could have ridden a Baja trunk, don't you think?” Rick muttered from the back seat.“Unfortunately, we skipped that detail while sketching a plan," I answered, then glanced over to Andrew. He hasn't said a single word since we left the crescent moon pack. Before I could ask him what was wrong, a loud noise erupted ahead of us. Orange flames lit the horizon. The blast echoed through the rocks, shaking the air itself. It was an explosion.

Phil's POV“Here,” I said, pointing to the map while Sinclair and Keith leaned in, the room was dimly lit except for the torch's weak halo. “North side of the moon block.”“There are three paths on that side,” Sinclair said, his voice thin with curiosity and something like dread. “Which do you think Hon will follow?”I lifted my gaze to them, “I have no idea. He could come anyway. But our men would be planted on every path.”Suddenly the door creaked open, and the room fell quiet. Andrew walked in, and to my surprise, Vera followed behind him.I froze, “Vera?” The words came out of my mouth before I could stop myself, my gaze locked with hers for a second as she stepped inside with Andrew. My gaze then leapt down to see them holding hands. I felt like the biggest fool in the room—one that had enough regrets to swallow me whole.“Alpha Phil,” Andrew’s deep voice interrupted my thoughts, bringing me back to reality. The reality that there was a war to be fought in a few hours. I also su

Lucy's POVI ran to the dark cells after I successfully slipped out of the watchful gaze of the gammas. Unfortunately, I froze behind a wall after seeing a gamma guarding Jason's cell.It was impossible to go there. But then it'd be like I had to bribe the guard the rest of the time. I went forward, putting on a smile as I approached the guard.“Luna." He bowed respectfully.“I need to speak with the prisoner.”He hesitated, then stepped aside. "Alright.” He said, but clearly didn't get the concept. "I need to speak with him alone,” I added."That won't be possible, ma'am. The Alpha wouldn't like that.” The gamma explained, his eyes flickered to the bars, then to me.I peered into the darkness of the cell. I couldn’t see Jason—shadows swallowed everything—but I forced a grin. “Leave me with him and I’ll make you very rich.”The gamma stood there still, considering the offer, but to my shock, he shook his head. “I’m sorry, ma'am. I can't let you be alone with this dangerous man.”Unbe

Vera's POVDuring dinner, Jacob kept sending me subtle glances across the table. And Andrew, on the other hand, couldn't help but flicker his gaze towards me once in a while, because he was annoyed, or rather irritated, that I had invited Jacob to join us for dinner. He'd get over it eventually. But for now, I wanted to know why Jacob had come here.“This is delicious,” Jacob said, nodding his head approvingly."Good." Andrew replied dryly, “My maids can get you some to take home.” He paused, checking his wrist watch pointedly." Speaking about home, don't you have someone waiting for you at home? It's getting late." Andrew said, putting a slice of steak into his mouth.I shot Andrew a warning glare to stop trying to send our guest away.“No, I'm still a bachelor," Jacob replied with a small smile, ignoring Andrew’s jab.“If you want the meal, we can have some packaged for you,” I said to Jacob, my eyes locking with him for a moment before I looked away.“I think I should get—” Jacob b

Phil's POV"He's nowhere to be found." My beta told me. My fists were at my sides."You all don't do your damn jobs right!" I shouted at him and the row of gammas standing in a line in the living room. They almost didn't protect Lucy, and I almost lost her to Hon.“How on earth did the man manage to get in there to begin with?" I shouted, directing the inquiry at my men but Lucy answered. " I-I don't know." She stammered, "I had been in the bathroom for a long time and when I came out, I saw him. And he attempted—" Lucy teared up.I went up to her, putting my hands on her shoulder. "It's okay. We will get him."I stood upright, "Hon must have planned this. And I am not going to let Hon play with me like a fucking game anymore.""What if Hon had nothing to do with this?" Lucy asked.I glared at her, my brow creased. "And who else would prefer that all the people around me perish except Hon? Who else understands that my Luna's death would suit him best?""You may have other enemies," sh

Vera's POV“Boltborne—that's the only explanation," I said to Andrew and I was certain. He didn't argue; he knew I could be right, but it just didn't make sense to any of us yet.I’d only ever read about such things in fiction, half-believing those stories were nothing more than myths. But now, standing in the middle of something that shouldn’t exist, I wasn’t so sure. And if it was something more realistic—if I truly possessed the power to summon lightning. How would I handle such an ability? I've only just awakened my wolf and I couldn't transform without going through pain, cracking a few bones into place. What chance do I have of controlling a million volts of raw energy?I could hurt someone. Kill someone even. Andrew's windows had only shattered last night. What if the next time it wasn't just glass that broke?Andrew placed his warm hands on mine, calming them from shaking any further as we walked down the hallway, heading toward the living room to meet the seer. “We'll have an
