Taran's POV
I put Willa down on the ground.
"Taran..." Kirsch muttered as he saw me going toward Rachel. Was he trying to stop me? Or was he understanding me? I didn't know and I didn't care.
I grabbed Rachel on her hair and pulled her backward so she was looking at the sky, just like the way she treated my mate. I really wanted to snap her neck right there.
"Taran, please..." Rachel burst into tears. She could barely speak as she choked in that position. She finally realized my anger, "I'm...sorry! I didn't...mean to hurt--"
I added some force, choking off the rest of Rachel's words.
"Your lie is insulting me," I said in an icy voice, appreciating the fear in Rachel's eyes. She grabbed my arm with both her hands, struggling for air.
I wanted to just watch her die in that way.
"Taran!" A shout burst through the woods. It was Nat. Of course Rachel mind linked her. Nat shouted before she could reach us. I moved my eyes in Nat's direction slowly. She was naked. She just shifted back.
"Taran, please! She's still a kid!" Nat threw herself at me with a horrified look. I grabbed Nat by the arm before I threw her backward.
"Keep your distance from Willa."
Nat's face was red from the running and now was pure white because the blood drained from her face after she heard my words.
"Who broke Willa's fingers?" I asked, looking into Rachel's eyes.
Rachel's lips were trembling as tears poured out.
"You make me ask again, you will wish you were dead." Cerberus curved our lips when he heard my words. There was only coldness in our eyes.
"I did!" One of the twins came forward. It was David, the naked guy who gripped Willa's collar. Just great.
"Put your hand on the ground." I stared into Rachel's eyes after I gave him the order. Rachel whined in tears as David knelt down and put his hand on the ground.
"You do it." I let go of Rachel's hair and pulled her by her neck till she was close enough to stomp on David's hand.
She shook her head in horror.
"Fine, I'll do it," I smirked.
I stomped on David's hand with Rachel's neck still in my hand. He howled before he leaned forward and hit the ground with his forehead in pain as he curled his wounded hand to his chest, just like my mate did.
Rachel cried.
"Again." I tilted my head a little, appreciating Rachel's horror and fear. Blood drained from her face and she stopped crying in shock.
"Please, he paid the price..." Rachel murmured, begging with a horrified look.
"I will keep this on until you do it. Again." I narrowed my eyes. Whatever pain and horror she gave my mate, she was going to experience it ten, hundred times more.
Rachel closed her eyes in desperation as she stomped on David's hand before she burst into tears.
I curved my lips.
"Again." I felt the urge to burst into laughter, I was so ecstatic, and at that moment, I couldn't tell whether it was my feelings or Cerberus's.
Maybe both.
I was at the edge of losing it.
Rachel stared at me in disbelief: "You-you said--"
"Who, broke, Willa's finger?" I cut Rachel off coldly, and I saw the fear in her eyes. I didn't need the Alpha aura to know that she lied, and I didn't want to use it to force her to tell the truth.
I would rather use pain.
"I did! I did it! I'm sorry but she was reaching for a weapon!" Rachel burst into tears, and her whole body went soft. She wouldn't be standing if I didn't have my hand gripped around her neck.
"What weapon? Could you see any weapon on her?! Look at her!" I growled in anger, "You almost stripped her anyway! Tell me what you see!"
"She was reaching for the chain on her neck..." Rachel cried so hard that she started burping.
Willa wore a ring with a silver chain on her neck, which was still inside her blouse.
"Your mate offered to take the fall for you, even though he was just as horrible as you in participating in this crime, his action was brave." I forced Rachel to look me in the eyes, "That's the only reason you get to keep your hands intact today."
"Yes, Alpha..." Rachel stammered in tears.
"Good." I curved my lips, but no one else joined my smile.
"Please, Taran, this is enough. Rachel has suffered now. I'm sure it was only an accident." Nat came forward again, this time tamed and mild, approaching me slowly and cautiously.
"Accident?" I let out a short laugh, "I hope you can see it that way when I break Rachel's neck later."
"Taran!" Nat shouted in horror, "She's just a kid. You are scaring her!"
"A kid who took four wolves to a wolfless girl and beat her nearly to death after torturing and humiliating her!" I growled, finally over the edge, "You had your chance with Rachel, Natasha. And now you both will live the consequences!"
Natasha flinched at my outburst.
I dragged Rachel close, feeling I almost break her neck as I shouted: "What did you use to slap Willa's face?!"
Kirsch blinked in confusion before he turned and checked on Willa's face.
"I didn't slap her! I just tapped her face with the piece of wood she brought with her!" Rachel tried to look around, "I, I threw it away..."
I closed my eyes in frustration, trying to contain the anger that burst out in me. The smell of Willa's blood was driving me over my edge. I didn't dare look for the wood with the smell because I just might kill Rachel right there.
"I found it!" Kirsch grabbed something off the ground, but then he hesitated on giving it to me.
"Kirsch." I frowned, eyes fixing on him. Though I wasn't currently the Alpha, it didn't mean I could tolerate disobedience.
"Alpha, you might want to let Rachel go first before you see this." Kirsch addressed me as Alpha, noticing my discontent toward his hesitation.
"I have enough control over this, don't make me repeat myself again," I said impatiently, the worst I could do was to smash that small piece of wood into Rachel's face. She wouldn't even be badly injured, unlike my mate.
Kirsch handed the wood over.
It was a finger thick piece of woold block, around the size of my palm. It was light, white in color. I knew why Kirsch wouldn't want me to see it. It was soaked in Willa's blood.
But when I looked at it, I felt something explode in my head when I saw the two little words carved on the corner--
To Al.
This was a gift for me?! Willa left the pack to give me this gift because I disappeared for three days straight! I was the reason why she was ambushed and badly injured!
"Alpha, please, allow me to slap Rachel for you!" Kirsch suddenly suggested. I snapped out of my shock, only to realize I nearly choked Rachel to death. Kirsch was trying to remind me without going against me.
I let go of Rachel's neck as I looked down again at the piece of wood.
On the other side was a piece of engraving.
The most complicated engraving that I had ever seen, but in itself, it delivered beauty. Unlike most engravings, it wasn't symmetrical. Usually, patterns of engravings are what give you the experience of beauty, but this one was different.
It was like a flower with thorns spiking out at will when the petals also had their own wish on how they wanted to present themselves. But as a whole somehow all these involuted lines echoed with each other just right.
I couldn't make out any part of the engraving, but it looked familiar. It was in the style of Willa's tattoo.
I felt like the picture sucked away my soul as I touched the lines. It enchanted me. Cerberus was peeking at it from behind my eyes as well, and I could feel that he was enchanted too.
It was like magic.
All of a sudden I heard the sound of the sea.
I didn't know how, but I just did. And in that second I calmed down, or, Cerberus calmed down. He sat up straight like the king he was born to be, but no longer mad.
Unlike Kirsch's worry, Willa's gift didn't make me angrier at Rachel, but instead, it calmed me down.
Taran's POV "You have no idea how lucky you are." I looked down at Rachel, holding up the piece of wood, "You would have died today if you had broken this." Rachel stared at the blood-soaked wood with confusion but she didn't dare say anything. "Who broke Willa's ribs?" I continued, but this time Crebreus calmed down. He was not looking for revenge, but proper punishment. The girl behind Rachel burst into tears. "What's your name?" I turned to that girl. "Joann..." The girl murmured. "Rachel, was Joann the one who crashed into Willa?" I asked. "No..." Rachel was like a broken doll, mild and numb now, "It was Mike, he's her mate." "Good." I nodded at Rachel before I turned to Kirsch, "Get him over here." "Mike, come here." Kirsch didn't hesitate. He could feel through his mark on me that I calmed down by much. The wolf who was pinning Willa down came limping. Kirsch kicked him good when he saved W
Willa's POV "No!!!" I jerked up at the horror of taking the Alpha's blood in the dads-moms way, only to find myself in my own bed with the cover over me. I couldn't even feel any pain on my side when it was so real a moment ago! It was like all that happened was only a horrible nightmare! I fell back down into my pillow with a smile. This was so great! Only a dream!! Why would I even dream of doing such a thing with the Alpha though?! "You are awake." A cold voice rose beside me and I shot my eyes open in utter horror. I peeked sideway at the corners of my eyes, and then froze right where I was. There he was, the REAL cold Alpha, sitting in a chair beside my bed with his arms folded. "Am I still dreaming?" I murmured, hoping for a confirmed answer. The Alpha frowned. Nope, this was the real one. So it all happened?! Rachel really hurt me and was going to rip off my cloth? The Alpha really saved me?--
Willa's POV I darted my eyes at the seat in front of me, and then I darted them back at the Alpha. "What?" He asked with a shrug. "Why am I at your house?" I asked, trying to suppress my impatience. I couldn't afford to shout at the Alpha...I repeated in my mind as I forced a smile. "You were injured, so..." He shrug again. How was that even a logical answer?! I got a house! Though it was also technique his, but... "I want to go home." "This IS your home, from now on." "This is YOUR home. You gave me a home, a week ago." I frowned. How was I supposed to hide my one million secrets from the Alpha when I live IN his house?! "Exactly, now I'm giving you this one." He grinned at me. He grinned at me! Something was wrong with him. Either that was Rudy, or he won the lottery. But it wasn't Rudy because his eyes didn't flicker. The Alpha stared at me, and I stared at him-- "Please don't
Willa's POV Al and Alpha Kirsch sat at the two ends of the dining table, and I sat on the first seat on Al's right-hand side. I never paid too much attention to food, but Al's cooking really blew my mind. I couldn't stop myself from getting more pancakes and making different combinations under Al's suggestion. Though it was such a waste to Kirsch because he just put everything together and piled a pancake mountain on his plate. "It's Sunday, where are you gonna work on a Sunday?" I turned to Kirsch after I bit the tip of a huge strawberry. "To the whorehouse, maybe?" Al teased as he leaned toward me. I pressed my lips to hold back the laugh, glancing at the cold Alpha in a sneaky way in case I met his eyes. Al took that chance and bit on the other half of the strawberry in my hand! Sneaky! "I'm not the one drowning in alcohol and women." Kirsch narrowed his eyes at Al, who grinned with mischief. "Really?!" I exclaimed, eyes fix
Taran's POV Searing pain exploded in my chest when Willa said she would rather go to a hospital than let me heal her. I knew it was stupid to feel hurt over such a thing, but the pain of rejection was real. At that moment, I could barely control myself to act normal, let alone smile. I used my arm with great force to inflict pain, that was the only way to cast away the pain in my chest, just by a little. Kirsch stood up to clean the table after breakfast. Kirsch always cleaned when I cook for him. He was a disaster at cooking. I wanted to talk to Willa with this chance but she just grabbed the empty plates out of Kirsch's hand, dodging my eyes: "I'll do it." She was trying to avoid me. Kirsch didn't insist. Instead, he turned to me: "Can we talk?" Though we knew Willa doesn't have a wolf, we still left the house in case she could hear us. We both knew the topic we had in mind was not "Willa-friendly". "She's your mate, isn't sh
Kirsch's POV I should have known that Willa was Taran's mate. I should have noticed a long time ago. I didn't think of it because I was so focused on my feelings toward Willa. There were so many signs. He "attacked" them only to flee himself; He got upset at me joking about Nat being his mate for the very first time; he got grumpy when he thought I might have seen Willa change. I should have known. I didn't think it that way because I didn't thought Crebreus was able to love. He was cold to everyone. He had no friend. He was mad. But Cerberus changed, after he met Willa. He even came out to talk to her this morning in the kitchen. He never came out to "talk", the only times he came out was to punish and rule when Taran was still the Alpha. That was why Rudy was confused about Willa! I only felt the similar pull to Willa, but not as strong at to Taran because I marked him by mistake, and b
Willa's POV I thought Alpha Kirsch went out with Al, but Al came back before I could even finish washing the dishes. "Let me help?" Al reached for the plate in my hand, his finger long and straight. I stared his hand into reaching mine. "It's fine, you are injured." I dodged his fingers and put the plate on the stand. Al paused for a second. It felt like he wanted to take my wrist, but in the end, he just put down his hand with a sad smile. "I'm going out, will be back in a couple of hours." Al put his hand behind his back as he leaned on the kitchen's entrance, "You will be alright for a few hours by yourself?" "Of course!" "There is a pool on the balcony on the third floor, feel free to enjoy." "Thanks." I finished all the dishes before I dared to look up, and to my relief, Al was gone. I wasn't really good at keeping friends, let alone a friend that I had a crush on who also had a mate. I was grateful to be l
Willa's POV I reached for the glass in front of me, but Al pulled it away. "You are underage." He said simply. "Well, it's a bar. The fun IS liquor!" I frowned, reaching out for the glass again. Al grabbed my wrist, stopping me with a chuckle. "You asked my idea of fun, I didn't say it was for all ages!" Al rolled his eyes. "Well, are you having fun then?" I narrowed my eyes with a deadpan. His facial expression when he drank wasn't exactly saying fun. "The meaning of liquor is not 'fun'." Al air quoted at me, and that left the glass unguarded! I stole the glass from him and he reached over to get it back. Nice try. I turned around and took the glass into my arms with my back facing Al. He chuckled at my "defense" when he nearly grabbed my arm instead, but he didn't touch me. "Just a sip!" I looked at Al over my shoulder, protecting my trophy as I pleaded. "It's against the law." Al looked down at me, hi
