Amber's POV

First, there was silence. It was as if their brains were processing the words that came out of my mouth. Then came the explosion.

“What?!” My mother and stepfather exclaimed, their faces contorted in shock.

Chloe's face fell instantly. She stared at me with her mouth hanging open wordlessly. She suddenly sprang up and lunged at me, holding me by the neck of my blouse.

“What did you just say?” Her eyes reddened and her breath became uneven.
