Kayla's POV

I quickly wrapped an apron round my waist as I moved to take orders 

 "Good day ma'am, what will you like to have?" I asked placing a smile on my face as I began jotting down her order.

"Alright, coming right up" I said moving to get her order. 

" Hey Kayla, how're you doing?" Miles one of our regular customers asked 

 " I'm doing good, what about you?" I asked politely

 "  Very well just that someone declined my offer the last time " he said smiling broadly

  " I'm  sorry about last time, I truly was busy, so what will you have?" I said quickly changing the topic of discussion .

   " It's okay, I'll have the usual" he said and I moved to make him a cup. Handing it over, he paid leaving a huge tip and I just smiled at his antics. 

   " Thanks" I said waving as he smiled before walking out.

 "Woaw! a hot specimen like that wants to go on a date with you and you said no? Jeez! what planet are you from ? " Maddie said from behind, making me giggle before facing her.

"Girl, I was just being polite you know I'll never go out with him" I said placing a hand on my hips.

"  Fine, whatever but please don't push every guy away not everyone is like him besides who knows when prince charming will come by? " she said before walking into the kitchen.   

Maddie is the closest friend I have, she has always been there and it's just nice. Making my way to the tables again I continued my job.

Crashing on the bed the minute I got in my room was my favorite thing, I work myself at the cafe and trust me this house is no different it is even worse. A knock on the door of my room snapped me out of my train of thought, opening my eyes I saw Melissa walk in draped in a scarf which she'll call a dress.

 "I didn't let you in, so can you get out, please" I said tiredly

 " I'd never want to see your face in this life or next, so will you shut up and let me speak " she said while I just rolled my eyes.   

"Fine, what are you here for so you can leave?" I said getting up to arrange a few clothes that were scattered around.

"We are having dinner tomorrow night at the Blacks mansion, cause I'm getting married to handsome billionaire Asher Black" I heard her say 

 " Shouldn't that be billionaire playboy Asher Black?" I retorted in a mocking tone

 " Whatever, he is very rich and handsome" she said making her sound dumber than she already was- if there's a word like that.

  I'm not surprised anyway they're just so greedy, I mean dad, her mom and her, they're ready to do anything for money, sometimes I wonder what my mom saw in him . 

 "Are you even listening, you b**ch " Melissa yelled 

 " Hey you! my tolerance for idiots today is extremely low so I'll appreciate if you don't push me " I said glaring daggers at her, I was just fed up with her nonsense.

  " Why the hell are you screaming in my house?" dad came in looking like he wants to murder me with Lora- Melissa's mom aka my stepmom .

  "I wasn't screaming, Melissa was" I began saying just to swallow the rest as a hand flew across my cheek making me yelp in pain.

 "Shut up you ungrateful child, what did my baby ever do to you ?" Lora asked looking like the witch she is.

 "Look now she's crying" she continued and I turned shocked to see Melissa pretending to cry, if I didn't know better I'd believe she was actually crying.

"You definitely have a talent, why don't you try acting maybe it will be better than spreading your legs" I said to Melissa looking her up and down.

 "You dare open your filthy mouth , you... you...s**t " dad said putting me on a choke hold while I stuggled to breathe

"That's enough dear you don't want to soil your hands with her filthy blood now do you" Lora said after a few seconds which felt like a lifetime and I actually thanked God for using her to come to my aid cause this man is a devil.

"Now apologize immediately" Lora said as I began coughing and rubbing the spot on my neck - it will definitely leave prints.

 "I'm sorry" I said even though I badly wanted to say go to hell.

" I'm out of here can't stand the sight of her" Melissa said walking out before they followed suit , I definitely won't mind if they were hit by a truck at this point.

I shut the door and walked slowly to my bed , lying down I shut my eyes praying for sleep to consume but the fact is that after such event it's hard not to think . After turning round and still not able to sleep, I gently got up and brought out my laptop to work on a few designs knowing it will be the only thing that will help me now. Staying awake for an hour or so I drifted back to thoughts, I seriously don't know what I'm still doing here, some of you will be wondering if I can't leave or something but I've tried all that countless times and countless times he used his connections to find me and I end up here again. I'm just tired of living like this, my eyes began to tear but I quickly stopped the lone tear that escaped reminding myself of the promise I made - I'll never cry because of them. I walked back to bed and closed my eyes this time determined to sleep and finally I drifted to sleep after about fifteen minutes of counting the number times the ceiling fan moved.
