Cold welcome

Sandra's pov

We arrived at our house, an hour after that incident.

There it Is - the house standing in it's glory. But I never imagined it to be this creepy, and quiet, except the chirping crickets.

The only thing I could make out from  the headlights is the dense fog that seems to get heavy by the second. Every other thing, engulfed in the darkness.

I stepped out of the car, slammed the door and turn over to xanvier  who was already unpacking.

"Where in God's name are we?"

"Home". Was all I got from him, as he carried  the heavy bag out of the booth.

"Xanvier, this is the middle of nowhere!". I screamed.

"Calm down, babe. This is perfect for our jobs". He said, dragging my ecolag on the gravel-filled road.

"You said you needed something new, right? Well, this is it".

I couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic with me or not. It's difficult to read him

"Be careful with the bag, please". I blurted when I saw him carry it like he has a problem with it.

"Can you be kind enough to help me out, I am trying here!". He fired back at me.

I rolled my eyes and hesitated for a while before dragging myself to get the rest of our stuff.

I am a 23 years old woman but I still act like a teenager, sometimes; overly dramatic especially when things don't go my way.

Xanvier, on the other hand is 24. A top-notch interior designer with many awards.

Like me, he can be dramatic but in a cute boyish manner.

XANVIER POV.

I switched on my flashlight as soon as I step into the house to avoid tripping in the dark. I dropped the trolley and carefully scan the empty room that will serve as the living room.

This is my dream house - Big, enough rooms for my future family and in the middle of nowhere, away from the hassles from people. Though it looks haunted, Sandra and I will get used to it.

I went out to drag the rest of the property inside, and met Sandra struggling with two not- so- heavy- looking bags. I chuckled at how she walks like a limping chicken.

She was about to topple over the bags, but I was fast enough to catch her.

I gently stroke her nose as I took away her load.

"You are crazy, you know." I watched her scrowl her face like a cute baby from corner of my eye.

I chuckled as she walks pass me and I dutifully follow.

Suddenly, she stops moving, just before entering the house.

I stopped too, wondering whether she's mad at me for calling her 'Crazy' or scared of how dark the room is.

"Are you okay, Sandra?". I asked, a little worried.

But I was so tired to entertain more drama.

I switched my torch and saw her shivering and sobbing. Guilt washing over me.

"There's some - thing on my - my leg'. She stuttered. I flash the light on her legs and notice a tiny green snake wrapping itself around her leg. I quickly pick up a stick and fling it away.

I pulled her in for a hug. Inhaling her sweet rosy scent that somehow, made me relaxed too.

She intertwined our arms together as we enter the house and freshen up. We deserve to rest!
